Did you know that the ones who actually translated the preserved perfect KJV were calvinists and disagreed with you on a bunch of stuff?
No doubt that many (if not most) of the KJV translators were Calvinists, but above and beyond that,
they were men of character, integrity, piety, and outstanding scholarship. The last thing they would try to do is to tamper with the actual words as found in the printed Hebrew and Greek texts.
Their task was to TRANSLATE, not interpret (as found in the Calvinist Geneva Bible). They also ensured that any words which they inserted as helps were clearly distinguished from the actual text through the use of
italics.
So why should Christians regard the KJV as the very Word of God in English (with the 66 books of the Bible) and continue using it as their sole Bible?
1.
The KJV was THE (sole) English Bible worldwide for at least 300 years, and the majority of commentaries and Bible study helps (concordances, lexicons, expository dictionaries, etc) were based on the Authorized Version. The Geneva Bible (a close relative) did not gain such influence.
2. It is the only commonly used Bible in English that is squarely based upon the
traditional Hebrew Masoretic text and the
traditional Greek Textus Receptus (Received Text). All other modern versions are based upon
ancient but corrupted Hebrew and Greek critical texts which were tampered with by heretics. Those are the FACTS. Detailed books are available which provide the full picture for those who desire the truth.
3.
The above Hebrew and Greek texts faithfully represent the MAJORITY of extant manuscripts (including lectionaries) and ancient versions. What came down to Christians by the time that printing was invented were copies of copies of copies of the original autographs (inspired documents), in which God preserved His Word through the ages. So the inspiration of the Scriptures was supplemented by the PRESERVATION of the Scriptures also. There are over 5,000 Greek manuscripts and between 1,000 and 10,000 Hebrew manuscripts.
4. The KJV is
a faithful word-for-word translation of the Holy Scriptures, and even the Jewish Publication Society based their Hebrew Bible translation on the KJV (originally). Most of the modern versions are not, and some are mere paraphrases.
5.
It has stood the test of time, and been used mightily by God to bring millions of souls to Christ, and also to edify millions of Christians worldwide. In other words, God blessed this translation, because it was faithful.
6.
It is still used by Christians and non-Christians alike, and a recent survey showed that it is used more widely than modern translations.
7.
All the propaganda against the King James Bible is BOGUS. Even children can read and understand this Bible (and this has been true for over 400 years). The really archaic words are about two dozen, and "thee" and "thou" equivalents are still used in German and some other languages, and are actually more accurate than simply "you". For those who would insist on updated versions of the KJV,
the NKJV is UNACCEPTABLE (since it has compromised itself). However the
King James 2000 Bible and some others would be more than satisfactory.
8.
The beauty of the language and the spiritual POWER of the KJV has impressed people for ages, and this Bible is mostly used by filmmakers when quoting Scripture. Furthermore, English language scholars regard it as a "classic", and assert that the English language itself was MOLDED by the KJV. No other Bible translation can match the outstanding qualities of the King James Bible.
