German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on Tuesday for an integrated European Union military

Friedrich Merz is currently leading the race to succeed Angela Merkel as head of the Christian
Democratic Union in Germany. On October 25, before Merkel announced that she would step
down as leader of her party in December, Merz signed a letter alongside five other “leading
German thinkers” that strongly supports an EU army.

Europeans, he said, “no longer need national armies.”
This man could soon become chancellor of Germany.

Leaders in Europe’s most important nations are openly pushing for a real European army.
Germany is also talking about arming Europe with nuclear weapons.

Germany doesn’t want to have to rely on America any more for nuclear protection.

A political union of Europe would produce a third major world power, as strong as either the U.S.
or the ussr—possibly stronger! Europe has huge, untapped military potential. A united military
could quickly transform it into this prophesied military combine.

German Council on Foreign Relations magazine is the latest in a series of articles advocating
for Germany to change Europe’s reliance on American nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Bruno Tertrais, deputy director of the Paris Foundation for Strategic Research, discussed the same subject in the International Politics journal. He writes that France could “station part of its arsenal (for example,
10 missiles) in Germany or Poland.”

Calling for a European army is easy—actually putting it together is hard.
But Europe has made important steps in this direction already.

Most of the Dutch Army is now under German command, serving in the German Army.
Significant parts of the Czech and Romanian armies are in the same position.

The EU has several projects designed to serve as the basis for a real European army.
EU leaders met in France as part of the European Intervention Initiative, which is
designed to help these different nations work together and deploy quickly.

I have read in the past that most young Europeans do not support the military so who will make up this new army.
Will probably have to hire mercanaries.

Here in Germany many believe if u give ISIS a bouquet and tell them u want no evil they will stop killing ppl...any more questions lol

Reducing the recruiting age to 17 enabled the Army to attract thousands
of minors it might otherwise have lost to alternative career paths.

Since 2011, the Bundeswehr has faced major challenges in recruiting new soldiers.
An increasing demand for German soldiers in nato missions and foreign deployment
raised the pressure on the Army. In 2017, Germany announced that it would increase
the number of active soldiers from 179,000 to 198,000 by 2024.

The Bundeswehr is becoming an attractive career choice. It offers high-paying jobs,
sponsored university training and lucrative foreign deployment. For many 17-year-olds
who view their chances of a professional career to be limited, the Bundeswehr is an

How many of these 17 year olds are being trained for combat?
How many would continue to join if combat training was required?
I ask because I do not know.

So my original thought that there may not be enough young men available to build an European army may be true.

Not sure if it's about having to recruit more solders. It is about combining the many national
armies already there, and become as an integrated united European military Union .

They are barely trained here. Not even worth thinking about the German bundesweh4

Just that they're not well trained like the us army and sometimes practice shooting with broom sticks because nearly all their weapons are defect

Somehow I cant see Angela Merkel as a new Fuhrer with or without a mustache !

From what i've gleaned with the exception of the British, EU armed forces are sad specimens - more of a civil service type job than steely eyed combat troops.
