I got help, this an open book, right, lol? Leah had 1. Reuben, 2. Simeon, 3. Levi, 4. Judah. Bilhah had 5. Dan and 6. Naphtali. Zipah had 7. Gad and 8. Asher. Back to Leah, she had 9. Issachar, 10. Zebulun and 11. Dinah. Finally Rachel had 12, Joseph(Ephraim and Manasseh= Joseph's one) and 13. Benjamin.

Levi is not counted because Moses was told not to include him in the census. Levi's calling was Priesthood.

This question taught me a great deal, thank you!!!

Hahaha... You had me confused at first. I am saying: Wait a minute! Israel didn't have 13 sons. Then I noticed you listed Dinah which was a daughter. giggle.gif

So, overall............

Leah gave Jacob 6 sons and 1 daughter - Rueben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun and Dinah (girl)
Leah's maiden (Zilpah) gave Jacob 2 sons - Gad and Asher

Rachel's maiden (Bilhah) gave Jacob 2 sons - Dan and Naphtali
Rachel gave Jacob 2 sons - Joseph and Benjamin

I find it interesting that Leah had 6 sons and everyone else only had 2 sons each. I had never realized that before. I learned a lot in asking this question, too! :)

Well, I was only asking about the "sons" of Jacob, not about how God set apart Levi for Himself or that Joseph received a double portion of inheritance which passed to his two sons (Ephraim and Manasseh). Of course, later in Revelation the tribe of Dan is not mentioned at all.

So, I was just trying to keep it simple with just the sons that were born. :)

If you want to "add it all up," I would NOT take away Levi, but take away Joseph and put Ephraim and Manasseh in Joseph's place. It would be:

Reuben
Simeon
Levi (God's portion)
Judah
Issachar
Gad
Asher
Dan
Napthali
Ephraiam
Mannasseh
Benjamin
12 in all

Yes, you take out Levi and it enables the double portion for Joseph's sons. :cool:

What is/are the reasons Aaron's Son's were consumed in the fire, what was it that made it a peculiar fire?

It just says it was fire from the Lord. I assume it was something like a bolt of lightning. They offered burnt incense without the proper protocol. o_O

I guess I shouldn't ask questions if I'm not sure the answer. I thought maybe they were not considered high priests, or because usually it is to be just one, or because they were drinking wine, thus maybe taking it too lightly, or finally maybe because they lit their own fire pans. I was wondering why it was soooo offensive to God? I guess it shows that God and His commands were not to be taken lightly.

Well CharlieRenee, we do know this much. There were certain times and by certain priests were these things done. We do know that they partook of the holy duties outside of the ordained protocol. To see just who and when was to use the incense pans we would have to go back and look.

There is no need to though. All we have to know is that they partook of a holy action when they weren't supposed to. By doing so, they desecrated their worship services. It is kind of like spitting on God. When it comes to the holy, we had better be careful. :oops:
