You do not have the gospel of Christ. I recommend you stop fooling yourself.

You have the gospel of self righteousness.

God gave me the GIFT of eternal life

Your trying to earn it.

Good luck!

="dcontroversal, post: 3745101, member: 183444"]Your words are false....not of God and for sure not biblical.......nor do they make a lick of sense....you have a serious issue with biblical comprehension, verb tense, context and the truth.........

You said...

I believe I shall be saved <---False, the bible is replete with verses that speak of salvation as a present, current possession and EVEN DAVID spoke of his salvation in the present tense. Also, the bible speaks of salvation in ALL three tenses and sets forth salvation as a past COMPLETED action with present continuing results.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Not everyone is saved. Not everyone who calls themselves a "Christian" are saved. You believe you are already immortal, and so did the Christians in Matt. 7. But Jesus said that even though they gave Him the Glory for everything they did, He didn't know them because they "Worked Lawlessness". His Word's, not mine. You may "believe" that you are immune from all the warnings of the Christ. You may "believe" that the Mainstream Preachers of Christ's time were trying to "Earn" Salvation by obeying God. But these are only religious traditions of man, and have no bearing on the truth of the scriptures.

but I am not yet immortal as the serpent convinced Eve <---False
, No where is this view presented in scripture, he convinced EVE that she would have the same KNOWLEDGE that God possessed and your view reads in something that is not there. John wrote that what was written was written that we may know NOW that we have ETERNAL LIFE
Again, your religion, your words, not God's.

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

It's right there in your Bible, all you have to do is "Believe".

! John 3:
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. (This has not happened yet Decon, no matter what you preach)
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

I will not erase most of the Bible just so I can be part of your religion.

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

"If we continue in His Goodness". This is my HOPE. You understand of this verse doesn't make Void any of God's Word. Even though you preach it does.

If I "follow" the Christ of the Bible until the end, I shall be saved <---False
, Refer to point 1 and many conflate the two verses that mention this into a salvation issue....neither are applicable to the eternal salvation that is freely and irrevocably given at the moment of initial faith.
Once again, your words, your religion, your gospel. Not what the Christ teaches.

Matt. 24:
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. (Who call Him Lord, Lord)
12 And because iniquity (Lawlessness) shall abound, the love (God's Love) of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

Col. 1:
22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

1 Tim. 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

But if I turn away from Him and towards religions which transgress His Commandments, then I too, as the Mainstream Preachers of His time, will be rejected. <--False
, First of all, there were MANY Pharisees that believed on him, but out of fear stayed in the background, One such Pharisee was Nicodemus who HELPED prepare the body of Christ. Second, your obvious hatred of any and all Christian religions is not only ignorant, but in particular very bias to the fact that some do indeed teach the truth.
"But if I turn away from Him and towards religions which transgress His Commandments, then I too, as the Mainstream Preachers of His time, will be rejected"

You preach this statement is false. Of course you do.

Matt. 3:
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance

AS my Master says:

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

You may "believe" you are immune or special and that this scripture isn't for you, many do. But that doesn't make these Word's of Christ's void.

but because the Christ of the Bible, in whom I truly believe, tells me this. <---FALSE
, Jesus tells you no such thing. The above false statements are the result of your own mind and bias toward the actual word of God. MANY have proven your fallacies by the word and you, unlike the Corinthian assembly, refuse to be open to the truth because you have willingly closed your eyes to any and all truth in context that disagrees with your man made theology.
And yet it is you who preaches your own words here and every day, many in direct opposition to the Word of God which became Flesh. This is your choice, not mine.

If you are not saved when you leave this earth by faith into the blood and sacrifice of Christ you will forever remain lost.......end of story....and too be frank....I fully expect you to reject the above, give some wall of conflated text, disagree, continuing walking your path to nowhere and you will probably never acknowledge the saving faith of the bible. <--Tragically I might add....
Fascinating, "If I reject your words above" and choose the Word of God instead, I will remain forever lost." I'll take my changes with the Word of God.

Once again your self righteousness has you blinded. Not only to the gospel. But to what others are preaching.

No one you are so willingly attacking denies any of those passages. Or that Gods children WILL do good works. In fact, we preach as Jesus said, That those who do the will of God are thse who go to heaven, Becuse those who have TRUE saving faith are those who do good works.

Your problem is you deny the power of God to change those people. And somehow think they MAY do good works.

Thats where we divide. Your faith is in self. My faith is in God, not only changing me, but changing ALL his children.

Morning all...My little heart op went well , praise God...My faith did not waver , my time alone I spent with Jesus , He kept me still , He walked me through , I trusted in Him every step of the way :)...

When going through trials , God draws us closer , I walked down to the theater room with the nurse , I walked in and climbed onto the op bed , my mind was still , no shaking of the body , my LORD , my Savior was with me every step of the way...His word is true , He is who He says He is , the LORD my God was my Comforter ...

I did nothing , He did it all , from start to finish , He is with us until the end of age Matthew 28:20...

I obeyed , I trusted in Him , I leaned on Him , I obeyed when He said " Do not fear " ...How in the world can those who say they are saved doubt what our LORD has done for us on the cross , those who think they have to add to the grace of God will always think they have to achieve something , you do not , just let the Holy Spirit of God lead you into all His ways , and you shall be set free free ...:)...
A BIG AMEN!

Acts 2:42 (NJB)
42 These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.

"I believe I shall be saved", but I am not yet immortal as the serpent convinced Eve.
If I "follow" the Christ of the Bible until the end, "I shall be saved."
Today, if you hear His voice - Psalm95:7

Studyman look what you have done with your earthly life; you have traded your adoption as a son of the "Most High God", for a lie from the devil. Professing to be wiser than everybody here you will forfeit your gift of Eternal Salvation and dwelling "in the house of the Lord forever" for a self-righteous lie of the devil.

No one is yet immortal not just you; the problem is "you are tempting God" because you could die
unexpectedly without having time to repent, that is not a good place to be in.

You know the temptations of Jesus where the devil took Jesus to a very high pinnacle and told Jesus if you are the Son of God throw yourself off this cliff and God's angels will hold you up and you will not die and Jesus answered him and said, "it is written; thou will not tempt the Lord your God." and the the devil departed from Him.

Good grief man I hope you come to your senses before it is to late, tomorrow is to late; "Today" is the day of Salvation", Just ask our dear friend "Jonah", Salvation is of the Lord, Jonah2:9

This is why God hates the proud but gives grace to the humble, God bless!

Hebrews9:27
9)
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,

Acts17:30
T
he times of ignorance God overlooked, "but now he commands" all people everywhere to repent,

Matthew16:24-26
24)
Then Jesus said to his disciples, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves" and take up their cross and follow me. 25) For whoever wants to save their life f will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26) What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

Psalm95:7,8
7)
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
Today, if you hear His voice , 8) do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
as on the day at Massah in the wilderness

It kinda Nullifies the Charismatic movement idea that we are to Edify SELF, don't it?
I wrote that in response to this portion of Scripture:

Romans 15:1-3 (KJV)
1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.
3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.

And I THINK it parallels this portion of 1 Cor. chapter 10, and I want to see if you understand it the way I do.

1 Corinthians 10:23-24 (KJV)
23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

NOTICE the word WEALTH is in Italics, and IS NOT IN THE ORIGINAL CONTEXT, and since it was Written as a Letter, it should be read this way.

1 Corinthians 10:23-24 (KJV)
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek his own, but every man another's.

No VERSES numbers were written in the original letter, and I THINK THE KING JAMES TRANSLATION TEAM DID A GREAT DISSERVICE by inserting the word wealth in Italics. They effectively LOST the original meaning of the Text. I know they inserted the meanings for clarification, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE NO CLARIFICATION IS NEEDED. It is obvious that Paul is TALKING ABOUT, edification.

What do you think?

Other translations are NOT MUCH BETTER, and just confuses the issue:

ASV & NASB - inserts good. A well as Several other versions.
NKJV - inserts well-being.
NJB - inserts selfish advantage.

However the Young's Literal Translation kept the original meaning.

1 Corinthians 10:23-24 (YLT)
23 All things to me are lawful, but all things are not profitable; all things to me are lawful, but all things do not build up;
24 let no one seek his own--but each another's. [As long as you realized that build up and edification are the same thing.]

So the charismatics look at the following verse, thinking it implies something that Paul said to do, BUT, I absolutely believe Paul is giving us a reason NOT TO DO IT.

1 Corinthians 14:4 (NKJV)
4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

The free gift is eternal life IN Jesus. We should be IN Christ Jesus to get eternal life.

...what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to ENTER LIFE, obey the commandments.” matthew 19:16-17

Jesus is the LIFE that we must ENTER (john 14:6) and if we want to be IN Jesus we must obey the commandments.

How would we know we are IN Jesus?

This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did. (1 john 2:1-6)
i think you're misrepresenting Matthew 19:16-17 here, conflating the Sinai covenant that the rich young ruler - who did not believe Christ was the Messiah at that time, but thought Him only a wise teacher - was under with the apostle John and those he writes to after the cross and the resurrection and ascension and the surety of the Spirit, and the new covenant of the Lord's poured out blood.

so i disagree with this statement:

The preceeding verses makes it clear that to WALK as Jesus did means OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDMENTS.
the preceding verses do not make it clear that the Christian is under the Mosaic law or some segment of them one may presume to shatter it apart into. yes, we obey God - what kind of veiled accusations are these? - but His command is to believe on the One He has sent, to owe no debt to anyone but to love one another, to walk humbly before Him trusting and looking to Him, in a way that befits the gracious gift He has given us undeserving: eternal life, which is to know Him.

part of believing Him is believing that we have died with Him

For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin — because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
(Romans 6:6-7)

we know that we were crucified with Him. we know that we have been set free from sin! we know why, too: that the sin be made powerless in the body - and we know what the power of sin is:

The sting of sin is death, and the power of sin is the law
(1 Corinthians 15:56)

we know that we have died and our life is hid in Him! and we know that whoever has died is set free from sin and is no longer under law! we know because we believe and trust Him, who He IS and what He has done and is doing forevermore!

amen, do good works! encourage all of us to do good works! because i'm saved, not to become or to remain saved! that's His work, and the work of God is to believe Him - i can rest in Him because it is His gift to who loves Him :)

And with HIS promised help to those who love Him and keep His Commandments, I have Faith that I will overcome.
He doesn't promise "help" He promises salvation! eternal life! :D
if you've already lost your faith that He has accomplished it you have certainly not overcome but been overcome by doubt.

And what was God’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself 7,000 who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.
What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened, as it is written
(Romans 11:4-8)

same chapter, preceding 'continue in His kindness' in the logical argument Paul spends page after page building.

what's "His goodness" and "His kindness" which we continue in? your good works? faith in His gracious gift of salvation and eternal life.
but you don't believe He gave it to you - how can you think you're continuing in faith? when what you say is "
if i keep doing enough good works, long enough i hope to be saved" -- what does that make you trusting in, dude? what's verse 6 say up there?

Good luck keeping that which deems you guilty......so....by the way...you have to keep ALL applicable laws and commandments 24/7/365 your whole life from birth to death....have you done that? NO....your guilty and condemned by that which you believe in your mind you keep.....it is obvious that you have no concept of the IMPUTED righteousness of CHRIST by FAITH WITHOUT the deeds/works of the LAW.......
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to its neighbor. THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW. And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to WAKE UP FROM YOUR SLUMBER, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Romans 13:8-14

We were created according to God's image of righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:17-32) but were separated from Him because of DISOBEDIENCE.(Romans 5;19)

We were made righteous through the blood of Jesus that was poured for the forgiveness of our sins (justified) and were reconciled to God(2 cor 5:18, col 1:22, Rom 5:10) and through FAITH we have received the promised Holy Spirit (gal 3:14) that gives us the power which enables us (acts 2:4) to meet the righteous REQUIREMENTS of the law;
4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:4

Jesus said:

...in regard to righteousness, because I AM GOING TO THE FATHER, where you can see me no longer; John 16:10

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I AM GOING TO THE FATHER. John 14:12 "

We were created in the image of God's righteousness and holiness, born again through the WORD and it is no longer us but He who lives in us, Jesus Christ, the righteous One. We are the body of Christ.

Instead of switching gears mid stride how about address the following based upon your belief that you keep the law/commandments of God. In particular the bolded part....

Good luck keeping that which deems you guilty......so....by the way...you have to keep ALL applicable laws and commandments 24/7/365 your whole life from birth to death....have you done that? NO....your guilty and condemned by that which you believe in your mind you keep.....it is obvious that you have no concept of the IMPUTED righteousness of CHRIST by FAITH WITHOUT the deeds/works of the LAW.......

for those who consider themselves sinless, shouldn't they be suspicious of the fact that humans are prone to sabotage?
