God honored the curse....might want to rethink your condemnation of Noah.....Ham settled Africa and has served everyone since that day.....something to ponder.....
I'm not condemning Noah, I'm feeling empathy for him but Jay just brought out what I'd been saying that people have used alcohol for self medication for 1.000's of years me too. It is not proof that getting drunk is OK. There are consequences to it, Yes Ham went on and grew up...(I'm trying not to let this discussion trail into Mormonism) Just sayin' if I were Noah I think I would have felt bad about that consequence for the rest of my life

DC you should make a thread on this.
I know what He's talking about but I had an Uncle that was an LDS bishop and that can go sideways quick. No offence but no thanks. Or start a kingdom of cults string instead of getting drunk.

the whole nakidness and Canes curse is a whole other thing, and IMO more to that story thats missing. all im saying is if there was ever an excuse to go out and get drunk, that would be a good one.
Highly forgivable. I might have done it too.

Mesopotamia? Near Turkey? How hot does it get? So Noah retired to his tent with a skin of the only safe thing to drink (alcohol kills most water borne bacteria.) So he got naked and passed out.

The LDS used to preach that black people are the cursed descendants of Ham and that associating or worshiping with them is a sin! That's why they were not allowed to tour the Mormon tabernacle in Salt Lake, till they merged with Coca-Cola that is...

Some folks also have a paradoxical reaction like Ridlin. Instead of relaxation it makes some excitable or violent like it unlocks a bi-polar reaction that isn't there when sober, like Jekyll & Hide.

Y'all know that the Apostle spoke of drinking and those who desire to hold Office in the Church, right?

Titus 1:7) For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8) But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9) Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience............ 11) For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12) Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

1 Timothy 3:1) This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2) A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3) Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

8) Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

Now, I like those because as I read it......Bishops are NOT to drink strong drink........BUT......Deacons can have a wee drop or two......

:)

just saying

And Paul told TIMOTHY who Pastored the church in Ephesus to take a little WINE for his stomach's sake....

NOT given to wine = not ADDICTED to wine......it does not mean that one cannot have a glass.......geesh

I think the lesson better learned was Noah acted like a fool the lesson is how not to act. It is why care should be taken if a person should decide to partake of fermented substances. Alcohol is an individual thing for most. It's a sin for me and many like me. Alcohol is a Psychoactive drug and it's psychoactive effect varies per individual. There's a sedative effect too and digestive as well...Some people just shouldn't drink alcohol. Some people shouldn't eat shellfish either. Many studies have shown Alcoholism is an addiction to a substance we are allergic too.
Ya know I see your point . I think there is a bigger takeaway here . It has to do with Ham . Ham went and exposed his fathers error to his brothers. He did nothing for a father that stumbled. It was left to his brothers to see their father’s need to guard his dignity.
The account just mentions Noha’s drunkenness then in more detail goes on to talk about his sons reactions and the consequences .
Also a side note . If you talk to some Jews about this part of biblical history. Some that can read Hebrew will tell you that when Ham saw his fathers nakedness it was referring to sodomy . Yea a stretch . Still some say why else the curse. It dose get you to wonder.
Blessings
Bill

Since all were killed in the flood except Noah and his family, everyone born since then is a direct descendant of Noah's family. Canaan is/was one of Noah's grandsons.

Noah had three sons born to him, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, before God sent a flood to destroy the world (Genesis 5:32).

“Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber” (Genesis 10:21), and this is important because the word Eber is the origin of the Hebrew word for “Hebrew.” The word Shem means “name,” which implies that Noah expected this son’s name to become great. He was right—the modern words Semitic and Semite are derived from Shem’s name. The Bible records that Shem had five sons: Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram (Genesis 10:22). Shem lived to be 600 years of age (Genesis 11:10–11) and became the ancestor of the Semitic peoples (Genesis 10:1, 21–31). Abraham, a descendant of Shem, is the first person in the Bible who is referred to as a “Hebrew” (Genesis 14:13).

Noah blessed Shem above his brothers (Genesis 9:26–27), and it was through Shem that the promised seed destined to crush Satan came (Genesis 3:15). That seed is traced back to Adam’s son Seth (Genesis 5:1–32), through Shem, and on to Abraham, Judah, and David, leading all the way to Christ (Luke 3:36).

Shem’s son Elam was the father of the Elamites, who later settled east of Mesopotamia. Shem’s son Ashur, whose name is related to the word Assyria, is most likely is the father of those who settled the ancient region of Assyria (Genesis 2:14). Arphaxad is thought by many scholars to be a compound form of the Hebrew word for “Chaldea,” which was a region in southern Mesopotamia (Genesis 11:10–13). It was through Arphaxad that Eber came. Scholars believe that the descendants of Shem’s son Lud became known as the Lydians of Asia Minor. And Aram is identified by Bible scholars with the area northeast of the Promised Land, known today as Syria (cf. 2 Kings 16:6). The sons of Aram are listed in Genesis 10:23. Of Aram’s sons, Uz is later referred to in the book of Job (Job 1:1).

Noah’s firstborn son, Japheth, is listed as the father of Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras (Genesis 10:2). Their descendants became the people who lived to the north and west of Israel and, after Babel, spoke what today are classified as Indo-European languages.

In blessing his son Japheth, Noah said, “May God extend Japheth’s territory; / may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, / and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth” (Genesis 9:27). There are two schools of thought regarding what this prophecy about Japheth means.
Some scholars are of the opinion that the enlargement of Japheth’s territory refers to a great numerical increase of his descendants. The comment “may Japheth live in the tents of Shem” means that Japheth will share in the blessings of Shem. According to this view, there was to be a time when God worked primarily with Shem (the people of Israel), but later Japheth would be brought into connection with the faith of Israel to share Israel’s blessings.

A similar prophecy is evident in the Abrahamic Covenant, when God promises to bless all nations through Abraham’s seed (Genesis 12:3). The fulfillment is found in Christ and in the gospel coming to the Gentiles at the inception of the church (Acts 15:7; Romans 15:16; Galatians 2:2). Other scholars are of the opinion that the extension of Japheth’s territory refers to territorial enlargement, and living “in the tents of Shem” is the conquest of the Semites’ territory by Japhethites. According to this view, the fulfillment was the Greek and Roman conquests of Israel.

Ham, the youngest of Noah’s three sons, had four sons: Cush, Mizraim (Hebrew for “Egypt”), Put, and Canaan (Genesis 10:6; 1 Chronicles 1:8). Note: Canaan's line is who Noah prophesied against. Egypt was later called the “land of Ham” (Psalm 78:51; 105:23; 106:22). The Hamitic peoples are shown in Genesis 10:6–20 as becoming a godless and worldly power. It was the land of Israel that was assigned to Ham’s son, Canaan, and for centuries it was under the control of the Egyptians. Ham is the father of the Arabians, Canaanites, and Africans, including the Egyptians. Due to Ham’s sin against his father (Genesis 9:20–25), Noah cursed Canaan, saying Canaan would be a servant to Shem (Genesis 9:26). This was fulfilled centuries later when the Israelites entered the land of Canaan and subdued the inhabitants of that land (1 Kings 9:20–21). https://www.gotquestions.org/sons-of-Noah.html

I had some church members that believed that when Cain was cursed he was made black.....they actually believed that crap until I reminded them that Cain's lineage was wiped out in the flood.....you should have seen the dumbfounded look on their faces.........what ignorance....same is true with the Mormon's belief....however....Noah did curse HAM, HAM settled Africa and they have served everyone since that day..........which is a fact.

I guess I should have also said that I do believe getting sloppy drunk is wrong as you are not in control and I don't believe we should give up control of our mental abilities. When you can't walk and talk normal you have gone way too far. If you ever are in that state never drive a car......

It proves that a little lie woven into a truth is like a little too much yeast, it turns wine into vinegar.

i see it a bit different. Noah had just survived the flood, had been on the ark all that time where drinking and relations with your spouse were forbidden, he had to save the human race, the animal race, etc etc. when it was all said and done i think Noah needed the drink to keep his sanity.
Where do you get that 'drinking' and 'relations with your wife' was forbidden for Noah?
