Cafeteria Food

When you were in school (K-12)...what were you served for lunch? What was your favorite and least favorite item? Also, do you remember how much is cost or was it free? You can include breakfast, lunch, desserts, and snacks if you would like.

My favorite items were pizza and chicken burgers. Those were so good! For breakfast I liked the sausage biscuits and the pancake corndog. It looked like a corndog but it had a sausage wrapped in pancake.
For dessert they usually had chocolate chip cookies in high school. In elementary, they had some orange popsicles with ice cream inside of them. I think they are called Creamsicles. They were both about 50 cents each.

My least favorite food item was the sloppy joes. They smelled so bad. I feel bad about it now...but I had to take a lunch tray and sometimes I would not touch any of the items in it! I ended up throwing away a lot of food. I wonder how much cafeteria food is wasted on picky kids.
Also, why was the orange juice so darn small? It was the best thing about breakfast and it was always so tiny! I always thought that instead of milk or chocolate milk for lunch...they should serve hmm I dunno oh yeah WATER!!!

In elementary and junior high everything (except the desserts and snacks) was free. I lived in a poor area I suppose. Look up the Rio Grande Valley...
When I moved to where I live now...regular lunch was $2 and if you wanted separate items like a chicken wrap you had to pay a la carte.
I went to school from the 90s to 2008 when I graduated hs...just to give you some context of the time. I'm curious as to how much lunch was in say...the 70s or 80s.

And those of you with children or teens...I would like to know how much it costs now if you don't mind. I just find all this really interesting.
Finally, you can post pics of the foods you used to like or dislike. The thread could be a little more fun that way....

I can't remember what I ate this morning, let alone when I was in 6th grade.

Sorry Little Mermaid, this is an awesome topic but I'm trying really hard to remember anything I ate back then... Hmm. I think the tacos and pizza burgers were my favorite. Anything with chicken nuggets or patties was kind of scary, because chicken just doesn't seem like a food that should cut into shapes with cookie cutters (take that, dinosaur chicken nuggets!)

All I can really remember is my brother and his friends torturing all really cool Lunch Ladies. They were usually the moms of some of the kids or their friends at school, so the guys would always give them a hard time.

I just remember the boys would shouting things like, "What kind of slop are you feeding us today?" and, "Are you trying to pass that off as actual food?" and one very cool Lunch Lady would never miss a beat, always dishing it right back to them and threatening to serve them "special" lunches--straight out of the garbage can.

Ah. Those were the good old days, when even a cafeteria lunch didn't have to be politically correct.

Ah the rectangular pizza. That was the best thing about school lunches. I never figured out why it was in rectangles but it was delicious.

I usually brought my lunch from home because we was po folks and the lunch I brought tasted better than their junk anyway. But the pizza rectangles were great.

I love hospital cafeteria food.

Some are good, some not so good. The hospital my wife was in six years ago after suffering from a stroke didn't have nearly as good food. I guess some of it has to do with the cook staff and some of it has to do with the chief nutritionist.

think when i started schools it was about a dollar for lunch by the time i left it had climbed to 2.50
the pizza wasnt bad. chilli was ok. lasagna was fine.
i do remember lots of eating alone but that is a whole other story

I never ate at the school cafeteria growing up. Elementary and middle school I brown bagged and high school I just went home for lunch. The past few days I've been living out of the hospital cafeteria and I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food.
