A New Heaven and Earth-But When?

Revelation 21:1-4 says, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’”

But when will this happen?

Jesus says in Matthew 24: 29-31, “Immediately after the tribulation…the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Well, that at least appears to be the start of a new heaven and earth.

The tribulation Jesus mentions, is the desolation he mentions in Matthew 24:15-18, which refers back to Daniel 9:27. As to when this desolation will come, Daniel in Chapter 9 verses 25..-26.. says, “Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem…Desolations are decreed.” The Book of Nehemiah discusses how Jerusalem, walls and all, were rebuilt.

What does this mean? It means that the Desolation already started when Jerusalem was rebuilt around the time of Nehemiah, so we have been in the midst of the Desolation for quite some time! It’s easy to see that, with all the wars that have been fought and are still being fought, and the destruction war has brought. If one argues that there were wars, etc. before Nehemiah came along, well, following Nehemiah all that has been given the name of Desolation. Furthermore, the Desolation may be like nothing we’ve seen before.

But when will the Desolation end and a new heaven ad earth begin? Hate to disappoint, but timewise at least, we don’t know. Daniel in Daniel 12: 5-7 says, “Then I, Daniel, looked, and behold, two others stood, one on this bank of the stream and one on that bank of the stream. And someone said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, ‘How long shall it be till the end of [the Desolation]?’ And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream; he raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven and swore by him who lives forever that it would be for A TIME, TIMES, AND HALF A TIME, AND THAT WHEN THE SHATTERING OF THE POWER OF THE HOLY PEOPLE COMES TO AN END ALL THESE THINGS WOULD BE FINISHED. “

Then Daniel says in verses 8-9, “I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, O my lord, what shall be the outcome of these things?’ He said, ‘Go your way, Daniel, for THE WORDS ARE SHUT UP AND SEALED UNTIL THE TIME OF THE END.’”

While we therefore don’t have a time when this will happen, there perhaps may be the hint of a sign in verse 7 above. According to that verse, it is when the influence of the clergy is finally destroyed. That would mean when houses of worship are no more, and teaching the Word of God is brought to a halt. When could that happen? Perhaps it may happen in accordance with the prophecy of Jeremiah 31:31-34which says, ““Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt…For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAW WITHIN THEM, AND I WILL WRITE IT ON THEIR HEARTS. AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. AND NO LONGER SHALL EACH ONE TEACH HIS NEIGHBOR AND EACH HIS BROTHER, SAYING, ‘KNOW THE LORD,’ FOR THEY SHALL ALL KNOW ME, FROM THE LEAST OF THEM TO THE GREATEST, DECLARES THE LORD. FOR I WILL FORGIVE THEIR INIQUITY, AND YI WILL REMEMBER THEIR SIN NO MORE.”

So, the short answer as to when we will have a new heaven and a new earth? It is when God is in the hearts of all of us.

Makes no matter to me...........I will be with my Father in Heaven where He has prepared a mansion JUST FOR ME!

There will be a new heaven and a new earth, and this current heaven and earth shall pass away.

Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Joh 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Jesus went away from the earth to prepare a place for the saints, the New Jerusalem.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
2Pe 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

The new heaven and earth will be a place where sin has never been, and sin will never be, and rebellion and sin will never come up again.

The old heaven and earth shall be burned with fire because all sin has to be purged with fire.

The old heaven and earth shall not be remembered, nor come to mind, for they are associated with sin and rebellion, and the saints and angels will feel as if they have always been there, and nowhere else.

Act 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
Act 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Jer 46:27 But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
Jer 46:28 Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.

Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.
Rom 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

God is going to restore the kingdom on earth back to the Jews after they have borne their shame for their sins, and iniquities against God, and Israel will be the only operating nation, and government.

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Zec 14:1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
Zec 14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
Zec 14:3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

Zec 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

Isa 11:9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Jesus fulfilled the law by being a sinless man, and fulfilling all the roles of people in the nation of Israel, by being the perfect King, Prophet, High Priest, Saint, temple, sacrifice, and whatever else He had to fulfill.

But He has not fulfilled the role of perfect King on earth, for He came as a humble servant to save mankind, and not to rule, and the law must be fulfilled on earth.

That is what the millennial reign is about Jesus ruling the world where they can see Him, and rule as perfect King on earth, and when the 1000 years is over the law has been fulfilled, and this heaven and earth shall pass away.

Then the saints shall go to the new earth and heaven, the New Jerusalem forever.

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

1Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
1Th 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

70 weeks, 490 years, are determined on the nation of Israel to make an end of sins, and anoint the most holy who is Jesus.

Israel as a nation must acknowledge the truth that Jesus is their Messiah.

69 weeks have passed, with 1 week, 7 years to go, which is the time God causes all people that do not love Him to follow the beast kingdom so He can end this sin business on earth, and brings Israel to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah.

The man of sin, New Age Christ, will establish peace in the Middle East, and it will pave the way for all Jews to go to Israel.

The Jews will rebuild their temple, and go back to animal sacrifices for they are still blinded in part, with no hassle from the Palestinians, and the Jews will split Jerusalem with the Palestinians.

The Gentile nations will come together and say Peace and safety as they try to establish peace on earth.

Then the 7 years period will start.

The first three and one half years repentance and salvation is still available to the Gentiles, but the world does not turn to God but keeps going on with their plan that religion is about evolution, and people can still evolve, so God allows the New Age Christ to deceive all people who do not love Him, and to rule over them, and when they take the mark of the beast which has to do with technology, then repentance and salvation is no longer available to them.

The fulness of the Gentiles have come in.

God will then turn Israel as a nation to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah for the last three and one half years, and at the end of that time the nation of Israel will be in the truth.

The beast and the world will attack Jerusalem, the Jews, and Jesus will come back with the saints, and defeat the world, and save Israel, for all Israel shall be saved.

Jesus and the saints will rule over the people that God spared at the battle of Armageddon, and at the end of the millennial reign the saints will go to the new earth and heaven, the New Jerusalem.

The "new heavens and earth" are a descriptive terms of the covenants - the Old mosaic Covenant - the "heavens and earth" to be destroyed when Peter wrote about them being burned with "fervent heat".

The "new heaven and earth" of the New Covenant were established at the destruction of the temple and the sack of Jerusalem in the 1st century.

The Old Covenant "heaven and earth" were planted when God gave the law:

Isa 51:16 And I put My words in thy mouth, And with the shadow of My hand have covered thee, To plant the heavens, and to found earth, And to say to Zion, 'My people art thou.'

Question...Which Jews is the Bible referring to? Is it the scribes and Pharisees and their congregants...or is it the Jews that have accepted and followed Jesus and became his disciples? is it both?

Thou almost persuade me to believe that.

That sounds kind of good, but like king Agrippa told Paul, you almost persuade me to be a Christian, for some things can sound convincing to us, but we do not believe it.

Which many people put forth things that sound convincing concerning the Bible, and some people will take the bait, and it is not true.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

When the new heaven and new earth shall come about the former heaven and earth shall not be remembered, nor come to mind.

But we still remember the old covenant, especially since it is connected to the new covenant, in one book, like the hip bone is connected to the back bone, and the back bone is connected to the neck bone.

If it means the covenants then we would not remember the old covenant, nor would it come to mind, but there it is staring us in the face when we pick up the Bible to read it, and many people talk about it, but we would not know about it if the old covenant were considered the old heaven and earth, because it would never come to our mind.

Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Jesus went away to prepare a place for the saints, and that is the new heaven and earth, and when the saints are at the new heaven and earth then they shall never remember the old heaven and earth, nor will it come to their mind, for they are associated with sin rebellion.

But we know of the old covenant, and what it is about, but how can that be if it is considered the old heaven and earth, for we would not remember it, and it would not come to our mind, once the new heaven and earth are in affect for the saints.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

What is meant by the above "not remembered?" - it's a covenantal statement - that once the old covenant/old heavens and earth were gone they would no longer hold any significance in God's scheme.

It's the same kind of not remembering as in Hebrews:

Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Whereas prior there was a remembrance every year:

Heb 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

The above is also related to things being hidden from His eyes:

Isa 65:16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

We know when the new heavens/earth were created because before that we are told that the unbelieving Israelites would be destroyed and then the new heavens/earth is established.

Isa 65:15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:

The Lord God slew the nation of the Jews in the war of 66 - 70 AD and the new heaven and earth - the new covenant was fully established in the eyes of the nation when the Jews were cast out:

Gal 4:30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.

Luke 13:28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

The book of Revelation shows us when the New Heavens and the New Earth come into existence. The "when" is AFTER all the earth is burned up.
It will be AFTER the Millennium, since we should keep in mind that the earth will be supernaturally burned up in order to purify it in preparation for a NHNE.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

After the 1000 year reign of Christ, Satan being loosed from the oit for a season, the final war, the great white throne judgment of the lost!!!!

However I want to provide an alternative answer since this one has already been covered (I dont believe this version though):

According to amillennialists, the new heaven and new earth will come when Jesus returns (2 peter 3:10-13). They dont believe in a literal millennium like many of us do. Instead they believe its symbolic of the church age, in which we are right now.

Now OP you got both sides of the story, but as I said, I DO NOT believe satan is bound right now. NOT NOT NOT. So dont pin that on me, just saying the different ideas people have about it

The Amils have pretty poor idea of what the millennial period, which is a time of unprecedented peace. With just one scriptural example one can see that we are not living in the millennial kingdom:

The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the goat; the calf and young lion and fatling will be together, and a little child will lead them. The cow will graze with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The infant will play by the cobra’s den, and the toddler will reach into the viper’s nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the sea is full of water.

The above are some of the characteristics that will be existing on the earth during the millennial kingdom. It will be a time of unprecedented peace. From the time of the prophecy, the world has never been in the state described above, which means that it must still be future and that because God's word must be fulfilled. It is truly sad, that they have allowed themselves to be deceived by the teachings of men and that goes for preterists as well.
