Ok so if you have a moment, I'd like to share the best phone call I think I ever received...
Ring ring, I look down and it is she. Wait, she usually only Marco Polo's or texts me, hope my oldest granddaughter, Nae Nae, is ok. "Hello, who is this?", lol, I say. She responds with a smile in her voice, "It's me, your favorite granddaughter" (all my grand wee ones know they are my most favorite because they all are in their very own special ways ). Yup, together we let the giggles begin.
Anyway, she went straight into discussing a reality show, to which my first thought was along the lines of... why is she watching that show... surely, it can't be good for her, not at her age. She began giving her take on one character and then the next. Barely stopping to take a breath, she would tell me of different scenes and the different toxic interactions amongst the people. Her tone had me less and less concerned about the effects of the show. Her animation and attention to detail was endearing, quite enchanting. Plus, I too knew the show, I shamelessly watched it before myself, lol. The intimacy experienced in this was really precious to me. I couldn't help but take notice how blessed I was in these moments shared. The sweetness of the call, though, wasn't in her descriptions, and her attention to detail, but they were fun too. It was the wisdom that I saw developing in the mind of my beautiful granddaughter. I'm telling you it brought so much comfort.
Her take away was this, "Mimi, you must know, I just think a show like this shouldn't even have been made. It sends the wrong message to children and their parents". My fair haired Nae Nae went on and on how disturbed she was that a show like this was allowed to be aired. She agreed that while it can be entertaining, maybe it shouldn't be. I chuckled, and let her know, just how well received it was getting her call. I truly was so delighted. I told her how pleased I am to see how she is growing up, how thrilled I am to know that she is able to not only learn how to be from good behavior, but also how not to be from bad behavior. I let her know this shows her maturity quite well.
You know, if you ask anyone who has taken the time to know me, they will tell you how honored I am when someone chooses me to share a thing, lol. It is one of my most favorite happy places. Right or wrong, I derive great pleasure in a good share. So having an everyday matter, like a call from a granddaughter, reaching out to discuss the ins and outs of a show like Dance Moms, well, that there is warm melted honey and butter dripping all over my soul.
Thank You Lord for her, for us!!!
