Hi, all.

I’m new here, and I need some prayer.

I’ve had a fairly difficult life. I moved away from my home state when I was 14 and haven’t made any friends since. My dad was chronically ill for 5 years and passed away recently in a very traumatizing way. It’s been rough.

I’ve been a Christian from a young age, but I’ve fallen in to so much sin lately. I don’t want to make excuses for myself, but I feel like the Enemy has used this dark time in my life to tempt me with things to bring me some kind of happiness, and it has worked.

I’ve always had a fear of sin and making mistakes. I know this is messed up theology in itself, but I can’t seem to shake it. Instead, I’ve gone for this “I give up, I might as well sin” approach lately.

I had a fear of homosexuality in high school. The devil really tormented my mind with this. When I finally began to realize that this was an attack, let go of this and trust God more, I began doing other things. I would overeat to make myself happy. I snap at people all the time in ridiculous anger. I began watching and listening to really inappropriate things a few months ago. I began masturbating a few months ago. Anything to find temporary worth and pleasure. Anything to distract myself from pain and anxiety.

So I’ve fallen into this cycle of hating myself, trying to be good on my own, failing in a small way, giving up, sinning in a horrible way that I know I’ll regret, and hating myself again. I don’t know how to stop this.

I heard from God a few days ago and I asked him why can’t I stop sinning. He told me it was because I wasn’t trying to please him. I was trying to please myself with my own self righteousness and then I end up giving up and sinning anyway.

I figured that maybe if I get this off my chest and say something that maybe I will be able to stop. I ask for prayers that I will begin to heal, stop self destruction, find my worth in God instead of worldly things, and learn to want to please God out of a love for Him, instead of trying to be a perfect person to please myself and giving up and sinning. Please pray for me. I want to be whole again and live an abundant life pleasing to God and serving others. Thank you.

Hello and welcome, Grace. It’s good of you to share your struggles so openly with us. You are to be commended for your desire to draw near to God and live a life pleasing to Him. Be assured I’m praying, asking God to work in a powerful way in your circumstances, sustain you with His comfort and strength at this time. May He give you wisdom and fill your heart with His peace that surpasses all human understanding as you lean upon Him.

We can be confident He hears us just as David was: “In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me” (Psalm 86:7).

Dear Grace 7888,

Welcome to CC! I am new here as well. And as followers of Christ, we’re in a constant battle with Satan and our own flesh. Our enemy does not sleep and knows our weakness. And you’re not going to win this battle with sin on your own. You have to realize that the kind of enemy that we’re dealing with is "not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

I don’t know where you are with your relationship with Christ and I’m not saying that you are not saved, but the first thing you need to ask yourself is: Am I Truly Saved? Have I been born again of the Spirit of God? If you’re truly saved, you will hate your sin and would want to regularly repent of your sin, be obedient to Christ and produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control.

If you haven’t done so yet, you need to consult with a pastor or a mature believer in Christ who will show you how to put on the full armor of God and pray for you, and help you grow in the grace and the knowledge of our LORD, Jesus Christ.Christ. That same person can also show you how to “keep God’s word in your heart, that you may not sin against God.”

You need to be part of a small group that meets on a regular basis that will encourage you, ground you in God’s word, pray for you and be your friends.

While this site is great and there are people who want to help you and pray for you, it is not a substitute for consulting with a pastor or a mature believer of the same gender and belonging to a small group study group.

Meanwhile, please find the time to study the materials below as it will teach you how to fight the enemy by putting on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6: 10-24)

I’m praying for you, Grace 7888.

He would be a very poor military commander who would attack the enemy where he is the strongest. Yes Satan will always hit you when your down, when your the least able to stand up to it. But I have some good news for you.

I hated myself for nearly 40 years for some of the mistakes I have made, but through it all i have come to see just how good, how wonderful, how unbelievably marvelous Jesus is, and he didnt give up on me, and he wont give up on you! He will make even your mistakes into blessings eventually so look up, your not the author of your salvation, he is ... and if it wasnt absolutely necessary, he would have you go through it or be tempted by it ... cheer up and Look up :)

Thank you everyone for your prayers and responses. I have committed and recommitted myself to Christ many times, and I do hate my sin, I just keep going back to it and I’m not sure why because it makes me hate myself. I think my plan of action is to keep myself praying and reading, put away the things that tempt me, possibly look into counseling, and join this small group that I’ve been meaning to go to. I was reading James 4 this morning about resisting the devil and he will flee. I see that I am fighting a lot of spiritual warfare here, and that I need to resist the devil with Scripture and Prayer. Thank you again everyone for praying for me.

Praying for you Grace7888. You have felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit, showing you how to grow. You have openly confessed by the power of the Holy Spirit guiding you to do so. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive them. You must thank Jesus for sending you His Holy Spirit because from what you have written, YOU HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT working to perfect you, to conform you to the spiritual image of Christ.

You can not surprise our Heavenly Father. He knows what we were, are, and will be. I have found my prayers of GRATITUDE for His mercy and power over sin (Jesus broke the power of sin and death) allows more and more of His love to flow into and through me to others.

As you heal and purify by His power, His life in you, the scales will fall from you eyes and you may see your eternal purpose more and more. Sin blinds us to our highest best purpose. Prayers of Gratitude for his Love and Mercy will change your core desires. He will change your core desires. Check it.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. He will install NEW desires, His desires, in your heart. Just open the door. Your faith will bless many. Stand in the Light.

Grace7888, Be encouraged & know that there is hope for you! Jesus promises to build strength within your spirit daily as you put your trust in Him. I agree, that it is so important to be part of a small Christ centered group, as a bible study & also find a spirit filled, Christ centered church that you can be part of. Your Heavenly Father is more powerful that any stronghold or addition that you are facing. He is able to heal every area of your life, but you need to trust Him. From reading your post, you have expressed a lot of doubt, as to whether the Lord can heal your life. Be encourage & know that He is right there with you now, and He is saying to you...Trust Me! I know the way! My prayer is simply that you will Trust Him! & abide in Him daily! rebuke the enemy! as the enemy has only the power you give him. Clothe yourself in the word & stand on the promises of God! You do not need to live another minute with a defeated "mindset"
Jesus, has been speaking to you, without a doubt, as He loves you more then you'll ever know. He has beautiful life planned for your future, one of hope, joy, peace, strength & an eternal destiny.
The scriptures tell us...Resist the enemy & he will flee from you! James 4:7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Ephesians 3:19 …19and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20Now to Him who is able to do infinitely more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, 21to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.…
