Unless being himself is a complete turnoff to people.

Making friends is like getting a girlfriend. You got to have chemistry.

What are your interests? Are there any local activities? I’m an introvert, too, but if I’m participating in something I like, I’m more comfortable to talk with others.

Nomie, join in the conversation here, that usually helps :). First though, ask Jesus to help you be confident in who He has made you to be, and to help you develop the personality He wants you to have! I just prayed that for you as well, by the way. Welcome to the Singles' Forum, Sis!

Been there, still there.

Smile, be kind and encouraging, push yourself (gently) to engage socially. Ask questions of people. On the web, remember that your comments aren't accompanied by tone so they are more easily misinterpreted. Make a little extra effort to ensure your meaning is clear.

Welcome to CC! :)

Embrace the awkward and turn it into a joke. Try meeting people through common activities or interests. Sucker people with common interests into talking to you about what you like to talk about with clever t-shirts, buttons, hats, etc that relate to those interests. And don't be like me and ignore people who are trying to be your friend because you haven't clicked with them yet (ok I'm not that bad, but I have a pretty specific idea of the kind of friends I want and there are some people at church who are nice to me but I don't make any effort with because they don't fit my exacting friendship bill).

Just smile and say hello :)
But if you say hello then people expect you to say something afterwards (and you kind of have to to make a friend) and that's where the awkward comes in because you know nothing about the person and therefore have nothing to say.

I don't know but most of my close friends we started with a smile and a hello :) we came from different places and speak different dialects and don't know each other... but now we are like sisters 😊 break the barrier even if it feels awkward at first...ask things praise the person like ohhh that is a cute bag 😊 where are you from? oh this place is nice! show that you are interested in what the person is saying..listen and also when you ask questions put a smile and curiosity 😊 one thing i don't do is asking numbers or social media accounts i let them give me first or their exact address and personal private stuffs 😊

It's real simple - just grab the person by the arm, look into the person's eyes and say "I want you to be my friend."
Why would this work? Because you are awkward - people will think you are just being.. awkward.

Hi Christian! Hope you're doing well, it's been awhile :)

Oh, and that also works to help make friends, Nomie :)

For some reason, a recipe crossed my mind...

"Friends"

Mix together equal parts of life experience, humility, and common interest... blend well and set aside.

In a separate bowl, blend double portions of kindness, generosity, forgiveness and time together.

Prepare the largest baking dish you own; spread liberally with respect.

Blend all other ingredients with a large handful of laughter, a pinch of tears, and a healthy spoonful of truth. Spread evenly in baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes at 450 degrees, then remove from oven and set to cool.

Drizzle with chocolate while still warm. Serve with coffee, tea, or another favourite beverage. Enjoy forever.

All I know is, with TI BASIC in my Texas Instruments graphing calculator and enough patience I can make anything... except friends. Though with my chatterbot experiments I certainly TRIED to make friends...

I love the irony of saying they're awkward and need help learning how to make friends, then never return to the site since posting this.
Umm... how about not disappearing on people? =P
