I always wondered what was meant by " my wordd will not RETURN void.
This was just answered from heaven as i was praying and driving.
It has to do with definitive authoritive prayer,as in praying for a need or someones healing. ( maybe anything for that matter)

When you or i invoke scripture, as i was in healing prayer for a man i passed by, those verses are sent to heaven, or sent BACK to heaven.
They are returning to the giver.
The results are immediately set in motion.
Man o man. It was a no brainer all along

Your thoughts?

I think "my word shall not return void" means that whoever hears it will not reject it but will practice it and put it into use.. :)

well, let us look at the entire verse IN its CONTEXT

Isaiah 55 is a beautiful chapter

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.

5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the Lord thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

it does not have to do with what OUR words but the words of God accomplishing what He says they will do

see the difference when you look at a verse with all the rest of the components together?

turns out it is not about prayer

to me it means what God says is 'as good as gospel' haha

He will do all His will. when He says, "let there be" then there is. when He says "I will deliver" He surely delivers. He does not fail :)
for example as He tells the apostles, what you bind or loose on earth shall have already been bound or loosed in heaven. they do not bind and loose on their own authority or leading. already done by His own word; it is effective!

when we pray from our hearts for another, then God hears and confirms and acts upon our
heartfelt desires for another, simply because at this time, our hearts are pure in our beseeching...

It goes with gospel of the sower, the LORD gives the seed to the sower who receives it by sowing. And those who receive the word from the sower are receiving the LORD who sent the sower. So don't be dissappointed if your word is not received for the sower don't lose their reward because the word of the LORD doesn't return void.

That is very true.

That is very true.
In the parable it's the Lord who sows. i don't know why people so commonly ascribe that to themselves ((well i have a guess))

Matthew 13:37
He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man."

if we repeat His words we act as His mouth; it's not us who speak. we must destroy our own vanity and humble ourselves before Him. the knees of those who don't bow on their own will be broken, and they will learn.

Reading that verse in context to me speaks of the prophecy that was given for the future nation of Israel. Seems to refer to the fact that God will accomplish His purpose and the words that were spoken over Israel will come to pass (in their due season). Please forgive me, this is the first time I have posted here. If anyone wants to talk about this further, feel free to let me know! I am very enthusiastic about exegesis and finding the meaning of the scriptures as they appear in context.

welcome to CC :)

people argue a lot here and are sometimes unkind, be ready to give grace. ultimately we're all trying to serve God here and unfortunately we're not always good at it...

I think one needs to be careful when ascribing specific meaning to scriptures... yes there are definitely modern day applications for specific words, i.e. Jeremiah 29:11 is used a lot to speak about how God desires prosperity for us (and this is true), but, those are also have a specific application for the time and period they were written in. If you ever have such a revelation and you want to know if its from God, ask yourself the question: "is this principle seen throughout all of scripture?" God will never give you a word that contradicts what He has already said.

I don't know if this verse is applicable to this situation or not, but I can tell you sometimes we get a little too crazy with verses and context. I understand the reason for it, but Jesus Himself sometimes quoted verses that seemingly had nothing to do IN context of the Old Testament Scripture, with the point He was trying to make.

Here is such an example:
Matthew 2:15 New King James Version (NKJV)
15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”

Here is where Jesus is quoting from:
Hosea 11 New King James Version (NKJV)
God’s Continuing Love for Israel
11 “When Israel was a [a]child, I loved him,
And out of Egypt I called My son.
2 [b]As they called them,
So they went [c]from them;
They sacrificed to the Baals,
And burned incense to carved images.

So the immediate context is Israel. In fact the writers don't even capitalize "son" here. Yet Jesus ascribes this verse to Himself. He does this sort of thing rather frequently, and not just about Himself, but other points he is making as well.

So I'm not sure we should so easily dismiss a person's thoughts about what a verse means to them. Obviously there is a danger in taking a verse too far, but let's not be quick to condemn.

My thoughts about the scripture is similar to you blue-lady.. I believe Jesus was saying that the Gospel message of salvation would not return without results.. Firstly the results of millions of saved human beings and the second result of the moral defeat of the evil satanic rebellion and attempted sabotage of Gods creation in the garden of Eden.. His words will save many and defeat satan and all the angels who allied themselves with satan..

absolutely

right. in the case of Isaiah 55, the ONLY application is to consider what God says about HIMSELF

and kudos on understanding that God will never give a person a word that contradicts what He has already said

Welcome to the "BDF!" :)

To me, verse 11, is just giving the reader an exclamation point, God the Father sets out "Proclaiming Joyfully" in Chapter 51:7, and continues on til the end of chapter 58. Which is the "Coming of Messiah!"

Not that it "can't" mean, that which the OP (original post/er) states, or believes. But? It means "So MUCH MORE!"

The fact he hears our prayer is a fact. Whether or not he choses to heal seeing he does it indiscriminately is another fact .. No sign gifts another fact.

We walk by faith the unseen eternal and not after the flesh as that seen, the temporal

We have the privilege to seek a healings. He who is of one mind and always does whatsoever His soul desires has the privilege to carry it out or withhold.

Prayer is part of the basic christian walk.
How do you know you are praying his will.?
James 4 says ye ask and recieve not because you ask amiss ( not praying the word of God back to him)

You can set the bar higher. It is up to each believer to choose the level of victory and power to walk and live in.
