A Pastor I used to work with was former Missionary from South Africa he shared some stories that were horrifying. The [spiritual] enemies don't hide down there! Many women must get pregnant before they get married to prove they can concieve then get circumsized to prevent them from enjoying sex or commiting adultery. Yes demons are real! But so is mental illness.
BTW Ritual circumssisions for both men and women by REAL WITCH DOCTORS in public so the entire tribe can watch. Also alcohol and potions [drugs] are also used in conjuntion with the ceremony to get people in an intoxicated frenzy.

I saw several extremly different ministries in the same place, suicide prevetion was only one of them, drug and alcohol was another. Television broadcasting, questions and answers, every sunday morning before service, christian business mens prayer breakfast, jews for jesus, charismatic catholics, traditional greek ortodox, womens studies, assemblies of god was always a big hit. I've heard pastors say all or most baptists are going to hell because they don't speak in tongues we had a school of theology than earned college credits, school of the bible that didn't. The list goes on and on. we could seat 3000 people in the main sanctuary alone 3 times per day. The homeless would come to us daily but we had to give them referals because we didn't have facilities for them but we did have a battered women shelter. The womens shelter accepted welfare checks and food stamps but also housed children on occasion. The center helped a lot of people.

It was the phony show business/carnival atmosphere that I was criticizing preachers saying things like if you are ill it's because of sin in your life or there is no such thing as mental illness. Someone tells a delusional, psycotic, suicidal or schizophrenic person that he is posessed and he isn't, think of what can happen and how much harm it may do. That was my concern. I've heard it 100s of times.

If I've offended you, that was not my intent. But that superstision gets people killed and it gets me angry, so I tend to shoot off my mouth. I'm not saying demons aren't real I'm saying mental illness is.
I'm not offended, just that I get touchy about what people think is either mental illness or demons afflicting homeless, when often it's neither. I know what you mean about false spiritual leaders putting the blame on demons when it's really mental illness. I see it all the time too, and I work to expose it. I pray that all Christians be able to tell the difference. That's one of the Spirit gifts, discerning of spirits.

I knew a homeless woman here who claimed she was possessed by multiple demons because a pastor told her so. She went through many 'casting-outs', but it did no good, until she finally got proper medical and psych help. She had schizophrenia, real bad, and other things. A year later she's pretty much ok now, with meds.

But I know another person who was diagnosed with various disorders, and all he really needed was Jesus, prayer, and some help working some money problems out, and once he got that and off the meds he was fine. There are 'quacks' all over the place, preachers, psychiatrists, charlatans. People are just so quick to label some one as demon possessed or having mental illness.

In the 1980's I read a book I believe by D. L. Moody with the above title which was his Masters thesis about the origin of demons. In it he proposed the idea that in genesis ch. 6 the sons of god that married the daughters of men, they were angels that married human women. This led to the Flood. Demons were the disembodied spirits of the fallen angels, trapped or imprisoned here on earth ever since. I tried to find the book but it has long since been out of print.

The Nephilim /ˈnɛfɪˌlɪm/ (Hebrew: נְפִילִים‬, nefilim) were the offspring of the "sons of God" and the "daughters of men" before the Deluge, according to Genesis 6:1–4.

A similar or identical biblical Hebrew term, read as "Nephilim" by some scholars, or as the word "fallen" by others, appears in Ezekiel 32:27.[1][2]

When people began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that they were fair; and they took wives for themselves of all that they chose. Then the Lord said, “My spirit shall not abide in mortals forever, for they are flesh; their days shall be one hundred twenty years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went in to the daughters of humans, who bore children to them. These were the heroes that were of old, warriors of renown.
The word is loosely translated as giants in some Bibles and left untranslated in others. The "sons of God" have been interpreted to be fallen angels according to some classical Judaic explanations.

According to Numbers 13:33, they later inhabited Canaan at the time of the Israelite conquest of Canaan.

I think archiologists have found huge bones of these giants...

I also think "demons" can take many forms such as angels..just like satan can take on many forms...in the firm of booze to an amcoholic..in the form of meth to a drug adict..in the form of a prostitute or porn to someone who struggles with sexual perversion..in the form of chocolate to an obese person..in the form of money to a greedy person..n the form of false piotiy or self righteousness to the christian striving to live a life for Christ..etc...Jesus cast out many demons...

I didn't feel it necessary to press reply to everything you have just said but people can read them rather taking uo all of that space again. so I will reply in order.

They have found bones of giants in many places. 3 off of the top of my head were Santa Catalina Island near Los Angeles, in central Nevada I believe on Piute indian land and at flower mound Ok.

The second post that I reply to isabout the two most common usages of the word demon, both noun and pro-noun. I have studied what is commonly called 'Dual Diagnosis' for years, not as a phd or md but merely as a counselor. It when substance abuse and mental illness become intertwined. Many people are quick to blame Demons for the demonic effects of addictions and many things that seem natural to most of us, can take a demonic toll on those that become afflicted. Something I was never taught but came to figure out both through study and experimentation {;););)} is any that any thing that can generate pleasure can become addictive. Pleasure is addictive!

Food, books, sex, television, and games from pack man to poker become our personal demons [noun] while others open us up and lower our defences from spiritual Demons [pro noun] like substance abuse, astrology, porn, etc. All of these things are all real. There are too the demons that come from within our minds be they from neglect, abuse, malnutrition during formative years. Or are passed along thru birth like phsycal alcoholism / drug abuse on the part of the mother before birth. That they had no part of. These things can greatly affect the brain in ways it took me years to 1/2 understand.

Most of this is accurate accept the part about blaming the flood on nephilim as God was clear that man was sinning horribly. At most the nephalim just helped turn mankind away from God, but thats exactly what the devil and his demons r continuing today.

A couple things.
"Pleasure is addictive" SPOT ON!!! As our society reaches new level of pleasure people can experiance it is super important for us to remember this as more and more will become addicted to pleasure. Great observation!

Second, i dont think u need to worry to much about the demon illness thing. The bible clearly recognizes both demons and illnesses and differentiates between the two. Demons can cause illness in ppl as they r unatural and thats what causes the confusion. Most christians know this difference and it is only a super small minority who wld advocate for exorsism over treatment.

That said i do think the medicine industry is out of control and drugs are way overperscribed.

I'm not going to put down the use of medication but big pharma and Doctors seem to lean on medication rather than nutrition. For singles this is especially important. I don't feel much like cooking for myself and doing the clean up afterwards. So I'll eat something from a bag or a can much more often than cook something from scratch just for myself. I've learned that cognitive decline & depression can be improved simply by taking 'B' vitamins with a meal once a day.

I would be in favor of having MDs study nutrition more than math or art
