Is the GREAT CITY in BABYLON, actually in Babylon, in Rev. 18?

I suppose just which city that is cannot necessarily be known at this time. There may be several candidates. I believe much will become clearer as we get closer and closer to the fulfillment of certain prophecies.

This is why I say that I am willing to continue learning and I seek discernment. There are many who claim they know for sure what particular scriptures apply to, I am not comfortable saying that with absolute certainty at this time.

I believe we should take Scripture in its plain literal sense, which means Babylon in Iraq will somehow fit the description given in revelation.

Saddam Hussein tried to rebuild Babylon. One of his several Palaces is situated there and the bricks are inscribed with his name.
He planned to have the Hanging Gardens reconstructed and went as far as having seven artificial hills placed there. He saw himself as the new Nebuchadnezzar. A large number of so called ''Prophecy'' books were sold at the time. One could probably pick one up in
a local Charity store. The original Babylon is surrounded by swamps and is situated a long way from any coast.

I believe that Babylon the Great as described in Revelation was Rome. I was suprised to read that Rome actually had a Harbour and
a Canal that transported goods to the city in the first century. I don't believe that the Vatican is physical Babylon. I believe Babylon represents false religion and materialism in all its forms. Only time will tell whether it also represents an actual city but I wouldnt
speculate as to which city it might be.

I have posted this numerous times only to be rejected my almost everyone....a STUDY of the DAUGHTER (PRODIGY) of BABYLON (7 books of the bible/and some 13 to 14 chapters) will reveal a yet FUTURE kingdom blended in with Classical Babylon of OLD. There are 80 characteristics applied to the YET future KINGDOM which is NOT ROME....some are as follows and I will say that woven through the contexts are things that cannot be classical and or points to the end of the age time frame...and the math when ALL 80 are applied come to a 10.5 billion to 1 which NATION it is with HER chief city being MYSTERY, BABYLON, THAT MEGA CITY where the kings of the earth MEET.

Wow! Once again I find I am not alone.

The us was not around when John wrote revelation, it most likely will not be around when babylon is destroyed (i believe when 1/3 of the earth is destroyed, it speaks of north and south america, the us will not even be around

Daniel tells us the prince will be from the people who destroyed the city and temple (Rome)

Whoever has power over the beast forcing him to destroy her (Babylon) will also have control, or power with all nations, thats not new york, or the us, the catholic church has more influence than the us ever will, not saying that is babylon (although until someone shows me another possibility, i think it is)

As for as the catholic church still having great political power, I believe they have become a paper tiger.

In Daniel 2 king Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of a statue of a man concerning 4 kingdoms, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and the Roman Empire, which the ten toes come from them, the world split in to ten sections with a leader in each section.

The statue does not fall until Jesus hits the feet of the statue then the 4 kingdoms fall, which means that those 4 kingdoms are still active and operational until Jesus puts down the world.

In Daniel 7 Daniel had a vision of the same 4 kingdoms, and said they all operated differently than each other, which is the 4 ways of people.

The first is Babylon, represented as a lion, which represents human religion, who rode on eagle's wings when they acknowledged the God of Israel, but blew it, and the eagle's wings were plucked, lost the revelation of God, and then became known as the kingdom of man.

The second is Medo-Persia, represented as a bear, which represents physical cruelty.

The third is Greece, represented as a leopard, which represents human wisdom.

The fourth is the Roman Empire, represented as iron, which represents pushing for power, world domination.

The first 3 will never have physical dominion again, but their lives were prolonged for a time and a season, which means their ways are still on earth.

The 4th beast, the Roman Empire does not lose their dominion until God puts them down, which ten horns will come from them, the world split in to ten sections with a leader in each section, which they shall devour the whole earth, tread it down, and break it in pieces, and the man of sin, New Age Christ, will come from the ten horns.

All 4 kingdoms show up at the beast kingdom, the ten horn kingdom, the physical dominion of the beast kingdom, with the ways of Babylon, human religion, the occult, the kingdom of man, the ways of Medo-Persia, physical cruelty, and the ways of Greece, human wisdom.

Babylon will never have physical dominion again, but her ways are still on earth, which the beast kingdom has the spirit of Babylon, for the beast kingdom is of the occult, and the kingdom of man.

Which Babylon is anything goes multiculturism.

So the Babylon in Revelation is not Babylon in physical dominion, but in spirit, and is somebody else, which the Bible calls the daughter of Babylon.

So at the end time the daughter of Babylon will do trade with the world, have the most influence in the world, live deliciously, and in pleasure above the other nations, be in to many different religions, and the mingling of themselves with other people.

The 4 kingdoms have not fallen yet, for their ways are still on earth, and since Babylon is known as the kingdom of man she is the one that is referred to in Revelation as the spirit of the beast kingdom, and her judgement still comes.

For a person either belongs to the kingdom of God, or Babylon, the kingdom of man.

So what nation best describes Babylon today, that allows multiculturism, allows many religions to be practiced there, lives deliciously, and in pleasure, having an abundance of wealth, and material things, does trade with the world, and has the most influence in the world.

For Babylon has not fallen yet, and she will not have physical dominion again, so it is not Iraq, and has to be somebody else, and Iraq does not fit the image of Babylon anymore.

Except for the fact it is identified as a CITY 6 times and a Mystery city to boot.....Roe was not a mystery when John writes Revelation which means to REVEAL.......

I think the Catholic Church, specifically the Papal hierarchy, has more power and influence than most realize.

The Pope is a king and he is very much involved in world affairs.

I wonder how many people stop to consider why so many world leaders go to the Vatican to meet with him.

Bible shows a prophecy about an end-time trade axis between Europe and Asia!
Isaiah 23 discusses three ancient powers: Tyre, Tarshish and Chittim (verse 1).

Isaiah 30:8 says that Isaiah wrote his book “for the time to come.”
These are prophecies primarily for “the latter day,” which is our time now.

Thus the three powers mentioned in Isaiah 23:1 must have modern
significance for us today. Who do these three represent?

the spiritual heart of the modern-day European power is called
Babylon in your Bible (Revelation 17:5; 18:1-3).

But here in Isaiah, the Bible refers to Tyre (and its allies Zidon, etc.)
as the commercial center of this European power. {a type of}
Tyre was the great trading center of the Middle East at the time.

Isaiah 23:1 goes on to discuss the “ships of Tarshish.”

the second power- "Tarshish" - is Japan in Bible prophecy for today.

The third power- "Chittim" - This biblical name refers to both the island of Cyprus and
to the nation of China, whose progenitors first populated Cyprus and gave it its name.

Isaiah 23:3 talks about these powers forming a “mart of nations.”

The chapter describes “merchants” that “pass over the sea” (verse 2).
It discusses “great waters,” or oceans (verse 3), as well as merchants and “traffickers”
that are so rich that they are like “princes” and “the honourable of the earth.”

Mart means emporium, trade or merchandise. Verse 13 mentions Italy (Chaldea).
Italy is here depicted in association with Germany, whose biblical identity is Assyria,
or Asshur.

A German-led Europe (the king of the north) possessing great maritime power, North
America will be surrounded on the east by Europe and the south by Latin America.

Watch Europe and Asia to band together and begin aggressive economic warfare.
China has come to possess most of the world’s strategic sea gates, which ironically,
at one time were held by Britain and America, plus the old silk routes being redone.

There will be a brief alliance between the German-led Holy Roman Empire
and certain Asian powers (Russia, China, Japan—the kings of the east).


Ezekiel also prophesied about this temporary Europe-Asia economic alliance.
The end-time prophecy of Ezekiel 27 discusses a “merchant of the people for

the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich

In Deuteronomy 28:52, God tells Israel that its enemies would “besiege thee in all thy gates”
—cut its economy off from the outside world—the most extreme form of a trade war.
Ezekiel 4-5 describe a siege of Jerusalem along with the other tribes of Israel.

Also, there are approximately 1.2 billion Catholics in the world. That’s far greater than the population of the United States.
