"God" means many different things to many people. Whatever you hold in the highest esteem is you God.
Mammon is the god of materialism, most of the world worships this god, even though they have been warned that "the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil", they still worship it. There are literally millions of gods, most of them were invented in India.
The first commandments says, "Thou shalt have no other gods, beside Me", yet the vast majority of the world ignores the One true God and goes after other gods.
