So, I guess it might be time for a cinder update just in case anyone has been wondering:

Life is going fairly well, I guess. My job is mostly pretty good and I've got great bosses and pretty good co-workers which helps. There have been a lot of promotions over the past year and my bosses are planning to promote me sometime between now and the end of the year to be the second in a new position they've created and are hoping to grow into a new department.

Because of job i was just able to buy a new to me car. I'm discovering that I like little cars, but I'm starting to get too big for them. After much thought I went ahead and made the decision to get the small car and let it be a part of my weight loss motivation plan. Not sure how well that's working yet or not.

Beyond that I'm off to hawaii (not the volcano island) next week because I found out one of my friends was living there and is willing to let me have free couch space and drive me to all the good hiking and snorkeling with turtles spots, which makes the trip affordable.

Other than that I've joined a book group with the Library that meets monthly, split way too much of my time between TV and board/card games that can be played solo (the number of solo games I've played of Terraforming Mars since the beginning of the year is something I refuse to disclose (because I've lost count). I even occasionally clean the apartment. Oh and I'm trying to figure out how old I have to be before I officially consider myself old. 40 just doesn't seem that far away anymore, I'm almost 90% there.
Hawaii... snorkeling with turtles. I did that about 20 years ago at Hanauma Bay on Oahu. I rented a scooter in Waikiki and put a lot of miles on it, exploring the roads up in the hills. Despite it being a popular tourist destination, there are many quiet spots. If you are in Honolulu, be sure to visit the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbour.

As for a small car, some people have that option; I don't. I don't even fit in many big cars or SUV's. Being tall has its disadvantages.

I am tall too, 6'6". I find used cop cars (Ford Crown Victoria) fit me well and can be picked up below market value on online auction sites.

I have two black and white cop cars with license plates "NOTAKOP" and "XCOPKAR". Before I got the plates, traffic would pile up behind me. Now people pass me but the drivers in front of me never go over the speed limit so I have to pass them if I want to go above the speed limit at all.

(If one is interested in buying a used cop car, he should check to see if his state allows one to drive cars painted like a police car. I believe Calif. does not. There may be other states as well.)

(Maybe I shouldn't post this because it could increase the competition in the auctions. lol )

Interesting... Now I can ask a question I have been wondering for a while! :D :D :D

EarnestQ I always thought buying used cop cars would be a BAD idea because they have been driven so very much and sometimes they are driven very hard when the officer is pursuing somebody - especially if the cop car had a shot of nitrous oxide when it was serving as a cop car. (Don't laugh... the town next door to my town, the cop cars have nitrous.)

How much use do you get out of used police pursuit or patrol vehicles? Are they still in fairly good shape? I don't mean the upholstery, I mean the drive train.

The Ford Crown Vics have been in production for many years, though 2011 was the last year for them. They are body on frame which means it is "easy" to repair body parts. They have been over engineered to meet the demanding needs of police and Taxi service.

"Generally" they were maintained well. It is common for them to last 300k to 500k miles. Departments seem to get rid of them around 130K miles. I have had three. I still have two. They have problems like all used cars do. Don't be surprised if you have to put a bit of time and money into repairing them. BUT, it is worth repairing them. They make a good daily driver. But don't rely on one as your only car. There will be occasional problems but a shade tree mechanic can usually fix most of them.

There are some known weaknesses with the different years and it is good to check out forums like crownvic.net to learn more about the common issues.

Good deals can be had, but one must be prepared for issues. I have prayed for God's leading in which car to get and am grateful for the three ex-police cars He has let me have. With God's leading, they can be a great value, but don't get one unless God wants you to get it.

Actually I can understand that a lot. When my beloved '90 Chevy Lumina died (six cylinder, more solid than later models, cornered like a dream... man i still miss that car) I prayed about what to get and wound up getting a minivan. Minivan does not fit how I like to drive. But for the things I needed to do in the following years, a minivan turned out to be a pretty good choice. When the church bus wouldn't start I could pick up the bus kids anyway, and I carried a whole sound system out to the park for a community church service.

I was always told to stay away from cop cars and taxis because they were driven so hard. Also they commonly have many different people driving them, which is hard on them. I was told to stay away from little old lady cars, because they were never opened up. Then I got behind some little old ladies I couldn't even keep up with. So I threw that advise away.

There are people here following me and I don't want them to. How do I take them off? Does anyone know?

Heh. My grandmother had a Cadillac that she really enjoyed. In town there is this one red light where it is four lane on one side of the light and two lane on the other side. She would be sitting at the light and some young guy would pull up beside her and rev his engine, about to jam in ahead of her on the other side of the light. She would just smile confidently and get ready. As soon as the light turned green, my little 80 year old grandma in her big tank of a car would leave the young dude in the dust.

Stay away from little old lady cars because my grandma might have driven one of them. You never know.

new layout
much ugly.
Yeah, it basically sucks. No more rep power, friend lists, number of visits to your profile page and stuff like that. It is kind of cold and sterile now. I'm glad to see you again though. I hope that truck driving gig really worked out for you. God Bless You.

As far as I know you can't remove them. Following and followers is not the same as the previous friend's list. To be a friend you either had to send out a request or accept a request. You then had the option to break the friendship. The new system is totally different. You can stop following a member but it doesn't look like you can stop them from following you.

I think it might work if you put them on ignore? Try it and see if your number of
followers reduces. You can also set your profile security so only certain
catogories of people can see certain things.

You can still have a ministry. You can pray for your church, for others, for various ministries, for anything God brings to mind. You can also befriend and encourage people online via CC, or any other site you wish. You can also participate in places like Answers.Yahoo.com. Perhaps something you say will draw others closer to God.

There is no reason to give up. God can use you as long as you are conscious.

Well wisebeardman, let's talk about your depression. I am an ex truck driver and a missionary minister with a lot of experience with depression. My own and others. A Christian should not feel the way you do. PM me if you want.
