Do you like to have a defined schedule in your life or do you thrive in chaos?

Is your alarm always set and you wake up before it rings? Or you are lucky to have a flexible timing and then its a matter of "it depends".

Currently in many areas of my life there have been so many shifts and changes, that I have not yet finalized a schedule.

I am curious how structured our lives are. Are any tips that any of you can share that makes your life easier by way of habit?

Does it help you to have order and routine in your life? Please share :)

I chose option 4...kinda. I'm totally cool with winging it, but I get more done on a structured schedule so I will often schedule things.

I have a routine during the school year because my kid's. Summer we do what we want, unless we have plans or appointments. But it's nice to have a few weeks to live in the moment. 😊

My days are about 80% routine.

I look after my elderly aunt so morning it’s up, do her
breakfast, coffee, tablets, packed lunch (if I’m off to work),
change her bedding, my breakfast. By which time the carers have
arrived so I get in shower while they do my aunts personal care.

If it’s a working day that’s very much a scheduled day, then come home in evening.
Do meal for us both, put on washer then dryer. Help my aunt with personal
care. Bed time for it all to start again.

If I’m not at work I’m usually catching up with household chores or gardening,
shopping. I never get a lie in (apart from when my aunt is in hosp). We get carers 3 times
a day, so always have to factor them in too.

The non routine stuff would be when I have to call Dr out or ambulance
or when the community matron or respiratory nurse comes. Or if I’m at
work and carers ring to say my aunt isn’t well, so I have to leave early.
All of this happens pretty frequently.

I’ve got two glorious months to waste as I like. I like the luxury of wasting time. Wake up at 10:30? Go ahead! Go to sleep at 2:00 in the morning? Sure thing! Take a bath in the middle of the day? Why not?

I adore not having a schedule. I don’t really worry about not getting things done. I don’t have a Yankee bone in my body.

I have a routine that I follow on my days off and a separate routine I follow when I am working. Most times I will get up just before my alarm goes off. During the intervals between steps in my routine things can vary, such a relaxing or doing something important that came up. I tend to follow a routine because I am a former soldier it was drilled into me the importance of discipline otherwise a lot of time is wasted during non-essential things such as looking for something that you use everyday such as your car keys or cell phone. I make it a point to always place the things that I regularly use in the same place.

Nothing wrong with unwinding on a weekend after a typical harried week. You certainly are not a bum, your a good mother and wife. :)

It is only by being lazy that we become truly efficient. Laziness also has an advantage. I will chose a lazy person to do a difficult job because he will always find an easy way to do it. :sneaky:

Not necessarily. I am lazy and very inefficient. When you couple laziness with procrastination, hardly anything gets accomplished, and when it is- it is usually inefficiently done.

I think there is some truth to this because I used to have this job where sometimes I had to produce a bunch of things that were exactly the same and it was taking too long to create just one so I had to come up with a way to make them faster and I was able to create a way to get them all exactly the same without having to re-measure everything each time. There were other things I figured out that saved time too, but yea it was all because getting stuff done was just taking too dang long.. :sneaky:

A lazy person may indeed find an easier way to do a task but the problem is the task never gets done regardless. I have learned in business that if you really need something done fast and efficiently you ask a busy person to do it because this person will adapt on the spot and the task gets done. Perhaps the busy person has a lazy trait but is also disciplined. It says in the bible that a lazy person will see scarcity in the things that are most important such as food and shelter for the family. Not ever a good thing.

I had a job in manufacturing where I was on special teams working on long-term projects to do exactly what you have described to streamline various production processes. You would have been a fine addition to the team.

J fully agree with your estimation and perception. In the workplace those types of workers get weeded out fast. In a competitive environment there is no longer any room for slackers as the good workers are tired getting their backs broke carrying their load too in trying to pick up their slack. I have zero tolerance for lazy workers.

You haven’t been in the work place recently. Lazy workers get a smooth ride. The busy bees carry the load. People don’t get weeded out unless they are flat out not doing any work at all.

The key is to do the least amount of work possible to get by- it’s the American way.

Get up between 4-5:30 a.m. Take my pills around 7 a.m. Do stuff all day until 8:30 p.m. Go pee, get in bed, watch TV for awhile, go to sleep. Lather, rinse, repeat.. lol

That kind of lazy is what I meant. If you were not that kind of lazy, you would not have thought of a faster and easier way of doing things. I don't judge lazy people quickly, some of them are brilliant, innovative, analytical thinkers and problem solvers. Diligence is a good attitude but talent and abilities are also important to be a valuable worker.

You are right about the lazy getting a free ride but if management is even half-way decent they will eventually get their ticket punched and shown to the door. Actually, I'm in the workplace 4 or 5 days a week. It bugs the hell out of me that I have to work harder because of basically lazy and clueless employees. They certainly are not part of my team. If I were in charge I would terminate half of the staff immediately, pay the key personnel more and see dramatic improvements in productivity and quality. Unfortunately, I am just a drone but I do make my opinion known. Just a couple weeks ago a lazy pathetic supervisor was escorted off the property. Of course, it took nine years for the facility manager to get a clue but in the end he did the right thing.
