For over 100 years since its founding, the Boy Scouts of America has enforced basic biblical
values among its members. Its mission is to build upstanding character in young people and
to help them make ethical and moral choices in life. It has used the Bible to define morality.
-

Mission Statement

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and
moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
https://www.scouting.org/resources/info-center/mission/
-

Building Character

Young people need to know to be good and to do good. Few will argue with the importance
of teaching values and responsibility to our children – not only right from wrong, but specific,
affirmative values such as fairness, courage, honor, and respect for others. Beginning with
the Scout Oath and Scout Law, the Boy Scouts of America program is infused with character
-building activities that allow youth to apply abstract principles to daily living situations.
https://www.scouting.org/discover/visitor/why-scouting/building-character/
-

Scout Oath

When the first edition of the Boy Scout Handbook was printed in 1911, it contained a
special scout oath. For over a century, new American scouts have recited this promise:

On my honor I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey
the Scout Law;To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law - A Scout is: Trustworthy-Loyal-Helpful-Friendly-Kind
Courteous-Obedient-Cheerful-Thrifty-Brave-Clean-Reverent
-

Faith Traditions

One of the key tenets of Scouting is “duty to God.”

Over the past five years, however, the leaders of the Boy Scouts of America
have systematically eliminated biblical morality from their organization.

On May 23, 2013, the national executive board of the Boy Scouts of America
voted to allow boys openly involved in homosexual activity into the organization.

Two years later, the Boy Scouts voted to end a ban on homosexual scout leaders.

Two years later, the Boy Scouts voted to allow transgender boys into the program.

The Bible instructs us to flee fornication, but the Boy Scouts of America seems
to be encouraging it. Why Are the Boy Scouts Passing Out Contraception?

Since 2002, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (wosm) has required that
condoms be made available at the World Scout Jamboree, which is held every four years.

The 2019 World Scout Jamboree to be held in West Virginia this July will not be an exception.

According to the most recent edition of the wosm’s jamboree guidelines:
“Host organization must ensure that condoms are readily and easily accessible for all
participants and [International Service Team] at a number of locations on the site.”
https://issuu.com/worldscouting/docs/wosm_wsjguidelines_en_2016

Many will justify the wosm’s decisions to distribute condoms as a necessary step to
prevent pregnancies and the spread of sexual diseases, but this decision also sends
a clear message to scouts that their pledge to be “morally straight” is meaningless
and premarital sex is acceptable.
-

“These policies present a clear youth protection problem that the bsa
[Boy Scouts of America] absolutely refuses to recognize,” Florida Family
Policy Council president John Stemberger told LifeSite News.
https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/b...-to-all-participants-at-upcoming-global-gathe

“The fact that they are requiring that condoms be ‘readily accessible’ and are
communicating this to everyone—including youth participants—shows that the bsa
is both anticipating and facilitating sexual conduct between minors at this event.”
-

The Bible instructs people to flee fornication, which is all sexual activity before
marriage (1 Corinthians 6:18). It forbids adultery, which is all sexual activity
outside of marriage (Exodus 20:14). It also forbids both homosexuality and
bestiality (Exodus 20:14; Leviticus 18:22-23; Romans 1:24-27).

Boy Scout leaders may think these moral principles are outdated,
but encouraging America’s youth to embrace sexual immorality
will lead to broken hearts and broken families.

If I remember my history right, the Scouts were formed by Progressives because they perceived movement to the cities as a social liability. My how times have changed, but so have Progressives...other than their proclivity to social engineer via state and para-state institutions.

Either way, I think the Scouts were a force for good most of their history, but, in a way, the changes made to the Scouts are a return to another aspect of their roots.

I looked up the history and it had nothing to do with progressives lol. It actually was inspired by a chance meeting of an American tourist with one of the original English boy scouts in England back in 1909. The english boy scouts were founded on the premise of a book about scouting. Here is the story of how the american boy scouts came to be (from History.com):

"The American version of the Boy Scouts has it origins in an event that occurred in London in 1909. Chicago publisher William Boyce was lost in the fog when a Boy Scout came to his aid. After guiding Boyce to his destination, the boy refused a tip, explaining that as a Boy Scout he would not accept payment for doing a good deed. This anonymous gesture inspired Boyce to organize several regional U.S. youth organizations, specifically the Woodcraft Indians and the Sons of Daniel Boone, into the Boy Scouts of America. Incorporated on February 8, 1910, the movement soon spread throughout the country. In 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts of America in Savannah, Georgia. "

I read it in some book ten years ago. Could've been junk info.

I'll look into it again.

I was in the Boy Scouts as a kid... for a while.

At one meeting the Scout Master was all excited,
he said, "Next week it will be sub-zero weather, so we're all going camping!"
Kind of shocked and horrified, I said, "Why would we do that?"
Beaming with smiles, he pointed to a little plastic bead,
"If you go out in sub-zero weather, you get one of these!"

For the life of me, I just could not figure out what was wrong with these people.
They expected me to go camping in the ice and snow, have a miserable time,
freeze to death, and catch pneumonia... all for a plastic bead.

Finally I just said, "Look, you may have tricked the Indians with little plastic beads, but that's not working on me!"

I was a cub scout. I liked it and we went camping and it was fun. We got to sleep in these barracks like on an army base. I don't know why they had barracks at a campground but they did. We had bonfires and roasted marshmallows and played baseball in this open field and thats about all I remember. I can't imagine what it would've been like if there were girls there.. I mean I'd be real nervous around them. At that age we went around saying "girls have cooties!" because we were supposed to hate them for some reason but we really didn't lol.

I, too, had a bad experience with the Boys Scouts. During a soccer game I started to feel spleen pain and had to slow down. Then the coach/referee said: "Don't slacken up". I told him I had spleen pain, but he wouldn't listen to me. Once again he insisted that I keep my pace, but I simply couldn't.

The coach/referee then commanded all the boys to "discipline" me. They grabbed me and began to rub my ears aggressively. I kicked as many of them as I could and ran away to never come back.

I was only 8 years old and went back home -- 10 km away -- on foot all by myself. The scout leader didn't care about what could have happened to me.

I'm so glad I got out when the Scouts organization had moral fortitude and courage.
As that old saying goes and concerning the open moral decline occurring where we'd never think to see it, we ain't seen nothing yet.

Update

"Amid falling membership and the rising costs of battling lawsuits, the Boy Scouts of America is reportedly weighing filing for bankruptcy. "

"The group plans to “explore all options available to ensure that the local and national programming of the Boy Scouts of America continues uninterrupted,” according to a letter sent to its employees Wednesday and acquired by the Journal. "

"Since its peak in the 1970s, the Boy Scouts has seen massive drops in membership, including 610,000 in the last two years after the Mormon Church yanked its scouts from the ranks. "

"But the larger issue is the influx of lawsuits related to sexual assault allegations, with dozens filed stemming from hundreds of claims of abuse in the ‘70s and ‘80s. "

"Legal fees have also gone to fight a lawsuit from the Girl Scouts, who sued the Boy Scouts in November after the group tried to expand recruitment to girls and transgender scouts. "

They allowed in homosexuals and added women to what was a club for boys to learn to be men. Why are they surprised when it all went wrong?
