And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it .Mattew 16:16
I must have read this many times. however when I read this this morning something came to me and I felt I ought to share it with the church body.
Jesus said to Peter,
"And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."
After Jesus goes up to heaven it is Peter who stands up and starts leading Jesus's people, the first church . He preaches the gospel, trains up men and women , church plants, visits the church plants and encourages. When he cant visit he sends letters . Paul of course follows him. But Peter and Paul and many of the other disciples and Jesus's followers get killed because of their faith by worldly men who the devil uses. Does the church die with the death of these spirit filled Godly men?
Jesus said,
"I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it". The church carries on . The work that Jesus started with those few followers carries on and grows and grows and is growing and growing and growing. Reaching out all over the world . People are even coming to know Jesus through dreams. There is no stopping Jesus.
We are part of that same church that the devil can not, wont ever be able to stop. No matter how many people die for Jesus His church will keep growing.
I just wonder if Peter , Paul and the others knew this as they faced their accusers. They must have done . They must have had the Joy and peace of the Lord in their hearts, knowing they had done what Jesus asked of them. It is the same Holy Spirit that lived in them and helped , equipped them as we have now.
