Why does "love grow cold" as the years pass?

Was Messiah telling the truth here?

Mattithyah 24:12, "And because iniquity will abound, the love of the many will grow cold."

He says the Law will not pass unless heaven and earth pass, yet everyone tells me the Law is done in some way...

Mat 5:18, "I say to you; Unless heaven and earth passes away, one yodh; the smallest of the letters will in no way pass from the Law, until all things are perfected."

Revelation 21:1, "I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away."

The Scriptures say it is love;

1 John 5:2-3, "By this we know that we love the children of Yah, when we love Yah and guard His commands. For this is the love for Yah, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy."

1 Yahanan /John 2:3-7, “And by this we know that we know Him, if we guard His commands. The one who says, “I know Him,” and does not guard His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever guards His Word, truly the love of Yah has been perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked. What does this mean, how did this happen, what are the consequences?

Is His Law really written on the heart of the "New Testament" believer? and thus drien unto love? or does the "New Testament" believer have to reject His Law to se saved?

Hebrews 10:16, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says YHWH: I will put My Law into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them.”

So I do not think we can call Lot not loving, certianly he was not perfect, but I think the truly not loving ones were the wicked inhabitants of sodom and gommorah. Unless I misunderstand you I do not see how "love growing cold" can bring Lot to mind?

it's not 'love growing cold' that reminds me of Lot & his family in Sodom, but 'iniquity abounding'

does 'love growing cold' necessarily mean a person is counted 'not righteous' ?

Love doesn't have to grow cold. I think we get out of it what we put in. If you love someone you spend time with them and want to please them. So if we don't spend time with the Lord and try and do what we know would please him then yes our love could grow cold but if we do as Enoch did and walk with God then our love will grow and we will walk with God right into heaven.

IN verse 8 the word "Lawless" is very similar to iniquity:

2 Peter 2:8 (for day after day that righteous man, dwelling among them, tortured his righteous being by seeing and hearing their lawless works),"

what generally happens to anyone when they are constantly and repeatedly exposed to any kind of stimulus?
the hum from all the electronic devices around you, for example - how many of them have you grown numb to, not really hearing anymore unless you concentrate now to listen for them?

Lot is someone in scripture who specifically was constantly exposed for a great length of time to iniquity abounding. that's why this passage reminds me to remember him; can i fully understand this unless i fully understand what's said about Lot?

What's your thoughts on this.

Commended for works, commended for hating false works/doctrines yet reprimanded for lack of love.

So has he not commended them for guarding his commands and word.

Is it possible that the people in the church were so busy putting out fires and focusing on works that they lost the concept of love.

The love for each other?

If you don't mind can I just add another thought.

What about people who have a faulty concept of love?
Let's be honest in today's society the term love or to love is so skewed.

We only have to look at advertising.

My kids get e-mails from Apple "Show your mum you love them on mother's Day by buying them a new i-pad.
Where on earth are my kids going to get the money to do that?

Buy this perfume and you will be loved (and it's always sexual)

We as believers in order to what love is.

Jesus himself said

"May they know that you love them as much as you love me"

How many belivers today know that?

My experience is not many.

If we do not one love in the first place then it cannot grow cold.

I don;t think I can say exactly what their "first love" is, I have heard many views, I do think it posibe what you offer, that they fought against false doctrine but were a little harsh type thing, however while possible I do not think that is it because it would be chastisement for exactly the same thing He is praising them for, aslo He say He also hates the nicolatians (those who conquer the layity). I will conced that view is as possible as any, but with that thought I have to submit that Yahshua says to "rebuke your brother frankly" and "if he repents forgive him" so Im not sure that what we consider "harsh" today is what He considers harsh. I am making no room for rudeness, check my posts I do not think I am rood and I think that is a reflection of my view and walk, what I am taking about is a misconception brought by the modern "participation trophy" and "political correctness" Yahshua was anything but "politically correct" he called the religious leaders "seed of serpents" and truth should never be comprmised for comfort, however that does not mean there is not a right way and wa wrong way to correct or rebuke a brother or sister in error. However without knowing exactly what the "first love" was I can not say for sure my stance on this, but I think it worth the review in the matter of gentle but true delivery in any case.

That is because that is the direction the world is going,so as time goes on they get worse in selfishness,arrogance,and self exaltation.

Ever since Adam and Eve sinned the world has been headed towards the beast kingdom where the transgressors will come to the full,and accept a kingdom that is all nations together as one that believes in no personal God,and they can evolve through the power of nature to be greater.

Which they interpret the Bible according to the occult,nature worship,witchcraft,spiritual evolution through nature,and Jesus is not Lord and Savior,but a good teacher in spiritual enlightenment,and an ascended master,and avatar,and do not acknowledge a personal God,but honor the God of forces,or the power of nature as their higher power.

Like a Christian grows in Christ,and a doctor becomes more knowledgeable,and a weight lifter becomes stronger,and whatever we pursue we become better at it,and understand it more,for that is the direction we are going.

So the world gets worse in their ways of self exaltation as time goes by until they believe the Bible according to their own lusts,and many hypocrites claiming Christ,until the world cuts out a God,and exalts themselves as great,which God said they will say,I am and no one else beside me.

But that belief of evolution and technology kicked it way up in their exaltation,and the 2 keys why the world rebels against God.

Technology allows the world to be able to know about each other,communicate with each other,and travel to each other,which the nations will come together to try to establish peace on earth in the future.

Evolution causes them to belief that they can still evolve through nature so they will pursue that and look at all religions in light of that,which the powers to be will want to establish that as religion worldwide,and believe it is the truth,so that there is peace among the people concerning religious beliefs.

Technology also allows for businesses and people that pursue money to be able to branch out more,and make more money,and then money is flowing big time like in America,and it brings out the selfishness,and arrogance,and self exaltation of people,as they heap and heap money,and material things to themselves,that is abundant in America,and then they view America and say people basically only care about themselves with little regard for anybody else,so you do not care about me,I do not care about you,and they get worse in behavior towards each other as time goes on with the attitude get all you can get and forget everyone else,and do not like each other as much and gets worse as time goes on.

Businesses that can never have enough money,ripping,and gypping the very people that made them rich with higher prices,lower quality,and less quantity,as they sit down and discuss how they can get as much money as possible and reduce costs and charge more money for their product,or service.

This is one big rip off here at Walmart,the "comfort fit" insoles,but what they do is use popular foot patterns,and then they are made like any other insole,an assembly line,so their cost in no different than any other insole,which I believe it would be cheaper for it is a pathetic amount of material,then they cry "comfort fit","comfort fit",and charge nearly 50 dollars for them,all the while saying save money,live better,but Walmart can be a little bit cheaper on a lot of their things for they buy in such big bulk,and they have cheap products.

And that is their attitude all the time to try to get as much money as possible,and it does not matter if they buy a product for one penny they would still try to get one thousand dollars for it if they could.

America became a game of trying to as successful as you can in obtaining money,material things,and high positions in society of people looking up to them,and about all of them are doing it from the homeless man all the way to the president,and from sea to shining sea.

People will not like each other as much in that atmosphere which is big in America.

All this is true and was destined to come when people.christians forsake the REAL God and Lord of ISRAEL...the Lord of the Sabbath !
The god of this world they are following now is one of confusion and destruction...with OBVIOUS results...but because it is done with such subtlety they never notice !!!
Yashua the REAL Jesus WARNED us of many FALSE christs/ways DECEIVING the MANY....but not believing this warning has made them the very VICTIMS of deception !!!
Christianity is on the wrong track following SUNDAY traditions from Rome rather than the Lord of the Sabbath the one and only Son of God who is the same yesterday, today and forever !!!
Wake up people and 'turn to the Lord who bought you with His Blood so you can live ! No false christ can do this for you !

For you were as sheep going astray; but are now returned to the (true) Shepherd and Bishop of your souls 1Pet 2v25....if you heed the Word of God !

1 John/Yahanan 2:6, "He who says he abides in Him, is himself also obligated to walk as He walked."

Being in Him we can do His will;

and if we ignore His word and His will we will grow cold in love and seek our own will.

I would argue that people not knowing and choosing His will leads to a domino effect where the world becomes more and more corrupt until, just like the food, Yah will again destroy all upon the earth, but this time with fire.

Isaiah 24:1-6, "See, יהוה is making the earth empty and making it waste, and shall overturn its surface, and shall scatter abroad its inhabitants. 2 And it shall be – as with the people so with the priest, as with the servant so with his master, as with the female servant so with her mistress, as with the buyer so with the seller, as with the lender so with the borrower, as with the creditor so with the debtor; 3 the earth is completely emptied and utterly plundered, for יהוה has spoken this word. 4 The earth shall mourn and wither, the world shall languish and wither, the haughty people of the earth shall languish. 5 For the earth has been defiled under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the Torah, changed the law, broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore a curse shall consume the earth, and those who dwell in it be punished. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth shall be burned, and few men shall be left.”

Matt 24:21-2, "For then will be great tribulation, such as has not come to pass since the beginning of the world to this time--no, nor ever will be. And unless those days were shortened, there would no flesh be saved; but for the elect's sake, those days will be shortened."
