This is my story coming to Jesus. I took me a couple of months of seeking Jesus after I found my second marriage falling apart. We were both drinking and felt this spiritual emptiness that we couldn't shake. My wife was raised Pentecostal and I was more or less a Baptist. Driving an 18 Wheeler, I was coming home to NE Oklahoma from Western Texas on a Christmas eve. I just made Abilene and heard on the radio about an ice storm hitting Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I cut North to Wichita Falls to try to get North of the storm, praying I could keep going and not have to shut down.

I was pulling an empty van trailer coming home. As I topped each hill the wind was freezing water on the highway. On the hilltops, you couldn't do anything: it was black ice. Starting back down into valley, you had traction again. I thought: I am doing pretty good. Then suddenly a Volkswagen ahead of me started stopping on top of a hill. Once I got up there I could see a tow-truck driver stopped halfway down the hill right in the middle of the road. A couple of cars slid into the ditch, and he was trying to drum up business. I was probably going only 1 MPH when I had to hit the brakes, to not hit the VW, or move into oncoming traffic. When I hit the brakes I started sliding and jack-knifed denting the cab of my tractor. The tow driver looked up and realized he had caused the problem, so he jumps in his truck and took off. Needless to say, my dispatcher shut me down and told me to get a room.

I call it telepathy. When God first talked to me, I was in a motel room with a shotgun ready to blow my brains out. My first marriage was on the rocks and I was really feeling guilty about a lot of things. I had been drinking but I think adrenaline had me lucid. I thought I was arguing with myself. But looking back I was arguing with something that was very calm: I was anything but calm. This Spirit reminded me of how all my loved ones would view this act. It talked me out of it.

I was praying in the motel room and watching an evangelist on TV. He was teaching on James 1. He got to the part about a double minded man, and it hit me. Wow! That was me. I was trying to pass a little of myself to God, have Him clean that piece up and pass it back. I started praying: God, now I know it wasn't you holding back; it was me. Then I said: I don't know what it will take to serve you; but whatever that entails, I will find and do it. Suddenly this overpowering thought comes into my very being saying: "Now that I can use." God started talking to me that day and He has since.

God uses this spirit talk, but we need to be careful: Satan, or one of his cohorts, will use it too. When a spirit is communing with us and we suspect evil, we need to test the spirit.
1 John 4:1-3: "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."
