Which one is better? Let's settle this once and for all!

You can pick both if you like them both equally. People can see your vote.

I am neutral so I have one of each
Lilo is loyal and true and always loves me
Mitzy, on the other hand, demands a certain lifestyle based on
having her own personal butler.
And my bed is her bed.

Dogs tend to be too needy for my liking. Cats are more independent and easier to take care of.

So yeah, cats. :)

I’ve heard cat lovers say that cats rule and dogs drool, but I still prefer dogs.

I vote cats, with extreme reservations. I hate cats. But dogs are too...doggy. Happy little freaks.

I once met a cat that thought it was a dog. At least I think.

I was in college, and we had to meet at someone's apartment for a project. There were about 12 of us sitting in a circle, and while we were talking/working, this cat came into the room and went from person to person because he wanted to meet everyone, and he tried to get everyone there to play or snuggle.

After he had made his rounds, he went to the middle of the circle and stretched out on his back because he wanted us all to rub his belly. It's so funny because to look at him, you wouldn't have thought he was anything out of the ordinary... Just a plain old "mutt" (?) of a cat--no special markings or unique fur patterns (I have a thing for striped and calico cats, or ones with "socks") or anything that really made him stand out.

But, he was by far the friendliest cat I've ever seen, and I still remember that his name was Sam.

I'm pretty sure he could have fit in my backpack, and I seriously wanted to kidnap (er, catnap?) Sam and take him home.

How is Bella?

My daughter's eldest cat was put down just over a week ago :(

Her two dogs get their teeth brushed at least three times a week

Wow, what a difference it makes :D

Sorry to hear about your daughters eldest cat. It’s always tough having to put down your pet. Bella is doing great! My wife loves to spoil her. :p

Yes, she phoned me the night of the day it happened to share her sadness with me... she works as a vet assistant, so... it was down to her... but "Blackie" had been totally feral when they first started feeding her about fifteen or sixteen years ago, and it took my daughter a year just to be able to touch her  She had to lay down in the driveway and stretch out her hand in order to do so :D They do not really know how old she was when she was finally domesticated; the best guess is about four to six years old, so she could have been twenty or so at the end

Three of their four cats had been strays. One was not feral, though, still a kitten (about six months old when they got him eight months ago), and the other cat took quite a bit of time before he allowed touching without oven mitts on to protect you LOL. However they say he is one of the best cats they have ever had. All the cats and dogs get along quite well :D Before he was allowed into the "general population," his favorite game was fetch (he was kept in the attached garage). He would run after the stuffed mouse and bring it back to you endlessly, just like a dog :)

Pets are made for having love lavished upon them :D
Your wife has the right idea (as long as it is not overdone ;))

DOGS. Hands down. Our family has always had at least one dog, and several cats (all outdoor animals). I had a cat of my own when I was young, and just last year I got a dog of my very own :).

When I was little, my job was to search out and tame kitties to be given away so we weren't overrun with half-wild cats. So I still like kittens during different stages of their lives; puppies, which we also had several litters of when I was growing up, are 100x more fun. I love everything about dogs and puppies...provided they grow up to be at least 22-30 lb. Not really a lap dog kind of person.

Cats...they creep me out lol. I try to avoid much contact with them. The horrible thing is that they ADORE me! Ugh, it's horrible! I do NOT carry catnip tea in my pocket, I wish the little felines would just leave me alone.

I love cats. I love how they move. I love their adventurous nature. I love the sound of them purring. And, yes, dogs are desperate for you attention. I liked when my pets did their own thing and then came for some snuggles. If I needed more, I'd go find them.

Keeping in mind that I still am exceedingly kind to the feline population...I have some pretty strong feelings against them lol. I kinda find the opposite of this true! Cats are little vampires, sucking out all your attention without any return :p. Dogs can be trained to be very helpful, and will return love for love, heart for heart, moment for moment of your attention and the work you put into training them. But that's just what I've found. It probably depends upon personality of those involved.

One thing I do not like about dogs is that... well, they smell like dogs  LOL

Still, I love them :)

My daughter's dogs are both under 20 lbs :D
One closer to 20, the other more like 15-16.

They are both very lovely, eager to please, well trained (very important with dogs to let them know who the boss is ;)) and generally a joy to be around, not to mention extraordinarily beautiful :D

Which breed of dog did you get?

^^ My daughter's doggies :D

The loss of love is always devastating. It is our most cherished "possession."
It is at the center of who we are and why we live, what we live for, and where
our hope is. An early "tell" for someone who might turn into the worst type
of person is one who has no love, empathy, or compassion for animals.

I am one of those who believe that animals are a living soul as we are, and
will be with us in the life to come. God created them before mankind, and
saw that they were good. They played no part in the fall of creation, and yet
they suffer alongside us because of the choice mankind made to follow self
will over the express desire of God. The unconditionally loving relationship
we are able to develop with our pets informs us of who we are as people.

One of the things I have mused upon is how most of our pets do not live
anywhere near as long as humans do, and so help, in a way, to prepare us
to accept the inevitability of death as we understand it... the first death.

Where would we be without love? It was for love that God created us, and
out of love that He sent His only Son to redeem us from the consequence
of sin, which is death. Pets add immeasurably to our enjoyment of life, and
teach us many lessons on love and responsibility and having simple pleasure.

Thank you, God, for the beauty you have created in giving us pets.

My cat Cali use to go there sometimes. LOL She would bite me if she was ready for snuggles and I was slow in giving them. But it wasn't often. But any dog that was friendly with me never got enough of the love I gave. One or more growled when I stopped petting them. I guess it does depend on the person.
