God will NEVER "take over" a person. (at least not as Johnathon describes it)
Only devil spirits do that.
That was my first thought upon reading the words as well.
Asking for a "spirit" to take over your body, your mind, actions and giving up control and responsibility to that "spirit" is not walking as a child of God but as a spiritual medium and asking for demonic possession.
God can speak through people but they are present and have control of their functions.
The only person who walked in the Holy Spirit 100 percent of the time was Jesus.
Look at the OT prophets there showed times when they reacted as humans and not by the prompting of the Holy Spirit. When David sinned with Babsheba for example.
Even John the Baptist and Peter showed dowbt, John sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was the ONe or if they should look for another and Peter started sinking in the water because of their doubt.
Some would say that this is before the cruxification, well we can example the letters and how Paul had to correct Peter about eating with Gentiles and other instances that showed that while the Holy Spirit is a guide and comforter. He does not posses and take control of bodies and minds in such a manner. Only demons and devils try and take such control of another.
Johnathon, have you told your wife about this?
I had hoped you were getting better, reading your Bible and walking humbly, not thinking higher of yourself then you ought, that kind of thing....
Philippians 2:3
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
you will be in our prayers.
