ENJOY OR BASH & TRASH A HOLIDAY LET THE FUN BEGIN

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. Last Thanksgiving I was in Las Vegas getting married to my honey. It was also special because it was her dad's birthday. He died when she was 12. We had our first meal together as husband and wife in the banquet room of the Hilton.

I don't bother bashing Halloween. My church goes one better by recruiting hundreds of volunteers to collect for the local food bank. We collect an average of 55,000 pounds of food each year, just on October 31. People are expecting visitors that evening anyway, and the response is usually positive. I'd like to see this idea exported... (hint!)

I personally make every holiday and day as enjoyable as I can; as GOD put me here on earth now for a reason so I might as well enjoy and make those around me happy too.

Thanks to all the participants of this thread.... It has been pretty good so far.... actually better than I thought... But as a whole I enjoy the holidays no matter which one it is. Each one has it's own kind of fun and usually it is a time to get together with family and enjoy the day.

We can make the days positive or negative it us up to us what our days will be like.... For the most part I am a happy person and try to share that with everyone around me....Life is what you make it and if you have God in your heart like is pretty good.

I like all holidays. My favorite is Christmas. My mom never let us go trick or treating as kids. She was overprotective of us and didn't like for us to be outside much. LOL
So now as adults my brother and I go sometimes with friends! LOL But since I'm getting a little too old now, I don't think I'll go this year.

Valentine's Day kinda sucks sometimes but I don't hate it. I know that one day I'll enjoy it with my hun (if I marry)...I hope!

My favorite holiday by far is Christmas, but it's the entire season that I love because I do a lot of baking and cooking. Like last year I made about 8 dozen cookies and some fudge.
I also enjoy looking at all the Christmas lights. I remember as a kid my parents would take us for a drive to some ritzy neighborhoods to look at all their lights it was a cherished memory I would love to do when I have a family.
What is the deal with artificial trees? Now I understand if a person has some sort of allergy, but I love the smell of a real Christmas tree. I do agree it is a pain to keep up with the falling needles, but the smell makes it all worth it

Agree. I think it's a matter of media popularity to some extent, and peer pressure/shaming tactics of those whose opinions we think are important. Everyone wants to fit in and be liked. There's plenty of validation for celebrating Halloween and not much for Easter. I think it was less this way when I was trick or treating, but I also think it was partly because of the rules and direction of my parents. We just didn't talk about it that much to everyone. We didn't seem to need their opinions and were told to watch what we said, to whom, and even why in some cases. It's a shame that it had to be that way. I don't remember the shaming tactics employed today, though. They are/can be way over the top.

Now that I see how you understood my statement, I agree with you that there is a problem with it. When I posted, "There's plenty of validation for celebrating Halloween and not much for Easter", I was meaning from the secular world. There is or at least has been plenty of horror movies, television shows with demons, ghosts, zombies, vampires, witches and so forth. In most of the recent ones, those characters are glamorized and the folks who interact with them in a positive fashion are glamorized. Unfortunately, they are sexualised as well. It seems that they are the "cool" characters and many folks want to be like them.

Many times, I have seen advertisements for Halloween in many genres. I think, from what I remember, there are less advertisements for Easter. It seems it is not widely acceptable to promote Easter for the resurrection, but is for a magical bunny who drops off treats at our homes.

Your experiences may differ, and is still valid. I was just looking at it from a different angle.

We like Halloween...It's a day the Lord made...Why do secular people get to have all the fun! My favorite Holiday is Easter...I never feel so happy as I do at Easter.

Has anyone ever explored the evils of Veteran's Day? Just wondering since every other holiday seems to be evil.... Just what I have observed.... note this is not my personal opinion.... I love Veterans..... It is the next holiday after Halloween... which we all know is evil except for the candy...
