Hebrews 10:38

but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”

Luke 17:33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.

I strongly desire to be married for years, but it hasn't happened. As I was contemplating, who am I living for? Am I living for Jesus Christ, I came across Luke 17:33. I had to ask myself, in what way might I try to save my life - what I want...

Then, the Holy Spirit brought to my mind Hebrews 10:38 - so I looked up the phrase - shrinks back and did a word study on it

Something that struck me was that it can also mean to withdraw from intimacy from another

What events or things can cause a believer to withdraw from intimacy with God, from walking with Him, confiding in Him, trusting, and obeying?

One thing for me, and I know probably for many in here, the desire to be married is a good desire. However, at what cost are we willing to get that desire fulfilled?

Compromise - marry an unbeliever? marry someone who claims to be Christian, but bears little to no fruit? Give up all together and be bitter towards God?

I don't know about you, but I do not want to shrink back from God, because of this area of my life, I don't want to seek to save my life in a way where I preserve my desire only to fill it with an Idol.

IF I do get married, she needs to have the heart of Jesus, and a heart for Jesus OR be satisfied in being single

I've thought about that a lot too... having a heart for God and settling for an idol.

The brutal irony too is that if one shrinks back, they are not really ready for a spouse. The odds of finding a mate are way higher if you are active.

Shrinking back is also bonded to other things like money, unlimited "happiness", another social status... at the end of those days (thanks to God) many had the chance to turn back to Gode, like the "prodigal" son... Besides, are not those shrinking, those who think they have lived "all their lives" serving and working "unceasingly" in God´s household?

The moment one checked that lesson, he / she knows where they are.

So stop been a victim and just: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

I'm not really sure how to reply to this thread because I'm not really sure what the OP said. But I do have to take that username into account...

I don't know. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky but I'm getting really tired of self-appointed encouragers who turn their encouragement around to say that it's all your fault for being down.

sometimes the message which had been said is not what you/the one have understand ... I am not the person who can explain it properly ... but what I have known that I -myself had being down for too many years /short breaks/ and realised it is the same trick which the Satan uses to keep me out of everything I can achieve - that is the war and you must survive. So I will only give you that one:

So is my reputation a self-appointed encourager?
If you think that's what I do, a PM would be good, maybe that isn't my intent, but how you read it.

Many times it is our thinking that drags us down, maybe that isn't you, but it sure is me. Life is a series of choices, and I am pretty sure your the one making choices

Whoops! Um... that was my mistake. BS was not the OP. But I will be sending you a private message just to make sure you know that was a mess-up on my part.

And for everyone else, write this day on the calendar. Not because I made a mistake (that happens much more frequently than I would like) but that I admitted to making a mistake. =^.^=

I have seen your responses and appreciate all of you for reaching out in your special ways. I didnt specify why i was hurting....well, am going through a rough patch in my relationship and have so much on my plate. Basically am a single mom and I lost my job as my position was rendered redundant. To make a long story short, currently everything seems to fall apart. Today, I got the strength to encourage myself in the Lord. I choose to call Him faithful inspite of everything. Once more, thank you for your encouragement.
