Here Lies Me

The biggest decision is cremation or burial. If I had a family plot, burial would be prefered. However, I don't and don't see the point of being buried in a random plot. I would be fine with scattering ashes at sea, or if a loved one wants to use some of my ashes for jewelry or certain art. I would not want a loud party with lots of food but a more elegant and quiet gathering with fancy desserts, appetizers, and wine or tea in a nice lounge. But, no formal gathering is fine with me too.

Am I the only one expecting Another One Bites The Dust at some point?

I am moving more in this direction, now... .

I first heard about it through the show Ozark. One of the characters wanted her son to use her ashes for a ring, which I thought was cool.

Oh! I did see that show, but do not recall that detail at all...

Was that the real estate agent (the son?) .

Or just a random visiting JB's character's funeral home money laundering business?

Yes. The mother wanted the son to use the ashes in an engagement ring to give to his future wife (that part, I don't think is cool).

It's funny that this topic came up, as my family and I have been having a lot of end-of-life discussions lately.

I've always told my parents they can make me into a compost heap. One family member enjoys gardening so maybe I could be of assistance as extra fertilizer, because that's about the only way I could be of use when it comes to growing plants!

To be honest, I never even really think about what will happen after I die because dying and getting to Jesus is what everyone makes out to be the brass ring of Christianity.

My main concern is that it's very expensive to pass on (a friend was doing some research for a relative and the whole traditional kit and kaboodle in that area was quoted at around $18,000.) I wouldn't want to be a financial burden, even after death, so I would hope I can have enough set aside (I have a small life insurance policy) so that they wouldn't have to worry about anything. I just told them to chose the cheapest legal means possible. After all, I'll be with Jesus.

I also have a small collection of favorite stuffed critters, because as a kid, that was a special way that my Mom and I communicated. I would leave my bear on the ironing board or wherever I knew she would see it with a note or certain pose that expressed messages back and forth between us, or "talk" to her through the critter. (Sadly, I don't have any ventriloquism skills or that might have made it seem cool.)

Even as a grown adult, I still "talk" to my Mom through a critter or two when I visit just because it makes her laugh. And my Dad has this thing where he likes to hide them in plain sight (last time it was on top of the refrigerator) to see how long it takes me to find them. Sure, it's something a 5-year old would do, but my parents still love it and it makes them smile every time.

We were discussing what would happen to my critters if something happens to me, and came to a joint decision that my Mom would want to pick one to keep as a reminder, and the rest would be sent to my friends.

Do not send Loqui here. He would terrorize my poor dog.

Okay, so EVERYTHING terrorizes the scaredy-cat dog... Loqui would be another thing on the dog's list of things to be terrified of.

But Loqui (a stuffed lynx set by a friend, with his name being taken from the word Loquacious,) is such a well-behaved, agreeable young chap.

Unlike other varieties of lynx (cough cough) I have met here. 😬

I was born in 1984 so I would like the tombstone to say that my date of death is somewhere around 2084 lol.

My Mom wanted something similar… under a shade tree.

it is NOT going to happen to everyone. at the Rapture, all christians are caught up & transformed!!!

There is evidence that the original apostles believed Jesus would return in their lifetimes.

Pretend you will live a long life and die of old age before Jesus returns. What do you want people to do about it when you die?

about me, people will say: "he was perhaps to tough minded & strict but a decent guy who spread the word of Jesus, he assisted the handicapped, lived life to the fullest, always would talk to someone about Jesus, did a lot of witnessing, a hard worker, was always doing something & joked around quite a bit. what i want them to do about me dying is to tell the truth. bit if not, no matter.

Three guys were sitting around talking about what they wanted people to say about them at their funerals.

1st: "I want people to say I was a good friend who was always there for them."

2nd: "I want them to say I was an honest man who always did what I said and paid what I owed."

3rd: "I want them to say LOOK he's moving!"

For real. This is only thing i wanna make sure my family gets right. Make sure I'm really gone!
I've seen quite a few stories (mainly in South America and India) where doctors do a bad assessment and people wake up in a coffin or during the funeral.
I hate that scenario!

He did return but only 1 was probably there to see it.

saved by the bell? rumor has it that people were put in coffins with a means to ring a bell in case the impending burial was a bit precipitate. thus that particular expression.
