I never did graduate from high school, but if I had, it would have been 45 years ago After working as a waitress for a year following high school, I did night school to get my grade 12 equivalent, and then I went to college for a year, to study design arts That was when I fell in love with photography and darkroom work, and finally knew what I wanted to do professionally when I grew up

Neither did I. Photography is a bit of an interest I've had ... but it somewhat fell by the wayside and I haven't picked it back up since. Boo. Lately, I've been wanting to go hiking and go cave exploring, which can become an attainable goal for me once I find work and earn money to afford to do these things. ... One foot in front of the other, you know?

What kind of gems would you hunt? That sounds like it could be a fairly lucrative hobby!
Photography has been an interest of mine since I was a child, taking the usual pictures of sunsets and our pets as a ten year old, but I never thought of it as a career until college when I discovered a passion for it. I went through high school, that time of life when you are supposed to be deciding what you want to do as a grown up, not having a clue. I had considered veterinary work and social work when I was younger, but the idea of working with sick and injured animals, and then really messed up people, seemed too daunting. I was artistically inclined but realistically, many were much more talented that I was, and I was also adverse to the idea of some corporation getting rich by exploiting any talent I did have. I also though writing jingles or doing some kind of advertising work (like Samantha's husband Darren in the Bewitched series ) might suit me, but had no idea how one would go about getting into such a line of work

In high school, I was bent on becoming a freelance writer. A lady who I communicated with online back then told me that you basically have to have somewhat of a big ego to be a published writer because that's what it takes to really put yourself out there. I agree. It was the egoic aspect of being a published writer that turned me off, so I abandoned writing and decided that it wasn't for me. There are a lot of factors that come into play when it comes to a career, many of which a lot of young people don't put a lot of thought into. You really have to imagine the type of life that you will be living if you commit to a particular career and see if you as a person, personally, are interested in that lifestyle, not to mention if you can even handle it. Egos are not my strong suit; I often say that I am a glass person in a stone world. Too much for me.
Photos are just so beautiful to me. Amateur photography is a mild interest of mine. Other than that, I mostly feel my best if I am typing, if I am out in nature, if I am focusing on natural health and nutrition, or if I am searching for something beautiful.
When you go gem hunting, you have the opportunity to travel to other countries to search for the different types in different places. I think you can find rubies in India. There are amethyst clusters in some parts of Africa. And there is selenite in a very hot cave in Mexico.
