The reason for the overabundance of cookie cutter metalcore is it sells. I remember writing to a Christian METAL label, and they announced the signing of two metalcore bands. I wrote complaining that he signed metalcore. He said it was either that or go out of business, because many metal projects are not full bands, they don't tour, they don't stay active long enough to form strong followings and that he was making no money off metal as a result. On the other hand, every metalcore release Christians would eat up. So the problem is our industry is being dictated by people with no interest in making good music, they're happy to buy any new piece of metalcore junk that comes out.

I remember Alethian. I also remember when their guitarist quit to join BTA, and saw a small set of them live, with him as the guitarist. Now there is a new project featuring members of BTA and Alethian called Solamors...

It seems like ever since Demon Hunter came out, and As I Lay Dying did Frail Words Collapse, every christian metal band decided they had to do over produced metalcore with sing songy choruses. Extol was definitely one of the best that was out there, although Antestor just released a new album which I must say is quite awesome, I enjoy Crimson Moonlight as well. I still want to start a three-piece christian death metal band that still has some catchy hooks to it.

Well I think when we understand that As I lay dying wrote a song called "Forever," they were serious LOL.

Yeah good bands. Christian Death Metal band. Hmm, well there are some out there. Would you derive any other elements like (Just throwing it out there,) Jazz, Space sounds etc.

I really like all kinds of metal, I know I bashed metalcore pretty good, but I even indulge in As I Lay Dying every now and then just because it's easy to hook on to. So, yeah I'd probably incorporate a bunch of different things into if I could. BTA had a solid death metal sound going up until Celestial Completion. Since I have really been into the christian black sound lately maybe I can go for a christian blackened death metal, like Behemoth, only (again) christian. That would be pretty awesome.

Listened to the link, but they were another deathcore band to me. I'm not a big fan of most metalcore, or deathcore. Some i like. But they have to really stand out and not a lot do.
I'm old enough to remember a time before metal/deathcore. Those were the days, haha.




By the way, guys, there is apparently a new documentary being made about Extol. Just search youtube for Extol teaser. I saw at least 4.

Yeah I found out about the documentary about a month ago, there's a new album in the works too, totally stoked.

I dunno if they are considered metal, but I was wondering if anyone knows if UnderOath is a Christian band? I heard both yes and no.

They started out christian, but strayed from their message. In the end not all members were christian, but the core songwriters for the band were always christians. And yes they are considered metal...at least at one time.

Isnt the Extol video out now!?!?!??! and actually isn't Extol now Mantric? If so they got an album out with 3 of the original members.

Lol well being a hardcore band which is under the sub- genres of metal means they are a metal band. Aaron Glimpse was mainly the reason why people still called them a christian band because of what he had to say etc. Did you know that they actually held a bible study at a Vans Warp Tour in like 2010?

That doesn't surprise me about the bible study, from what I heard musically, I guess their very first album before they were on solid state was pretty black metal.

In regards to extol, Mantric is three of the members that played on the blueprint dives, in regards to extol, three of the original Members, Peter, the first Ole, and I think Dave was the name of the drummer, are back together and working on a new extol album.

Underoath is NOT metal. Thats pure blasphemy. Hardcore falls under punk, not metal. Original Underoath was metalcore-ish. But after their first two albums they went mainstream sound and, also, went fail.


This is Underoaths 2nd release, back when they were decent.

Whatever happened to the days when metal was metal? What is up with all of these sub-genres?! I for one find it hilarious how technical people get in labeling which sub-genre a band belongs to.

There has been sub-genre's for metal since the early 80's, they just remained extremely low key until the early 90's. But someone listening to Metallica certainly may not be interested in listening to something like, let's say Suffocation. Both bands are metal, but have very different sounds.

Thats interesting to know. I own a BTA album, but didn't realise the guitarist was the same(shock horror). I must admit I havn't been keeping up with these things at all(slacker).

Underoath have been one of my all-round favorite christian metalcore bands until their latest album, which I havn't been able to get into unfortunately. Same as Demon Hunter. Both are big heavy weights in the Christian alternative music scene, but after being exposed to their sound many times over the years, the appeal tends to wain, and instead of being exciting, it becomes just "nice". One word "overplayed". Of course any music can suffer the same issue if thrashed to much.
