JESUS, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Jesus spoke many times about light because light shows truth, guides the lost, and brings life. When He said “I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12), He was telling us that only through Him we can walk in the way that leads to God. Darkness in the Bible means sin, lies, and confusion. Light means truth, hope, and the way to eternal life.

Jesus said in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. He that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.” This shows that light is not only knowledge, it is life itself. When we follow Jesus, we turn away from sin and walk with Him. His light helps us see what is right and what is wrong. His light shows us the path that leads to His Father.

Jesus also said in John 12:46, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me may not abide in the darkness.” His purpose was very clear. He came to free people from darkness. His words give understanding, His actions show love, and His commandments guide our steps.

In another place Jesus says that those who do truth come to the light, so their works can be seen as works done in God (John 3:21). If we love Jesus, we come to His light. His light helps us change our hearts and live a clean life.

Jesus also told His disciples that they must walk while they have the light, for darkness can quickly overtake those who do not follow Him closely (John 12:35). His light is a gift, but He asks us to walk in it every day.

The disciples also spoke about Jesus as the light. John wrote in John 1:4–5, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not.” John shows that Jesus is the true light that shines on all people. Nothing can stop His light, even when many reject it.

John also wrote about Jesus as the “true light” that gives light to every person who comes into the world (John 1:9). This light is not only for Israel, but for all nations.

Peter also spoke of Jesus as the guiding light. In 2 Peter 1:19 he writes that we should hold to the prophetic word “as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts.” Though he does not name Jesus in this verse, the “day-star” rising in our hearts is another way of speaking of Christ bringing His light into our lives.

The Old Testament also speaks of this light long before Jesus came. Isaiah wrote about the Servant of the Lord who would bring light to the nations. In Isaiah 42:6 God says, “I will give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles.” This fits perfectly with Jesus, who came not only for Israel but for all people who seek truth.

Isaiah repeats this in Isaiah 49:6, “I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.” This shows that the plan was always that God’s light would reach every nation, and Jesus fulfilled this promise.

The psalms also speak of God as light. Psalm 27:1 says, “Jehovah is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”Jesus brings this same light because He is one with the Father. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and light unto my path.” And Jesus is the living Word made flesh, shining God’s truth in every place.

Jesus calls us not only to receive His light, but to walk in it. He said in Matthew 5:14–16 that His followers become lights to the world when they obey Him and live in His truth. His light does not stop with Him, it shines through everyone who keeps His words.

So Jesus is the true light. He shows us the way to God. He makes our hearts clean. He leads us out of darkness. And He gives us His own light so we can shine for others.

BECOMING CHILDREN OF LIGHT

Jesus did not only call Himself the light of the world. He also said that those who follow Him will become children of light. This means our lives begin to shine with His truth, His goodness, and His love. We do not shine by our own strength. We shine because His light fills us.

Jesus said in John 12:36, “While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light.” Jesus makes this very simple. If we trust Him, walk with Him, and follow His words, His light enters our hearts and changes who we are. We stop walking in darkness and begin to live in a new way.

Jesus also said in Matthew 5:14, “Ye are the light of the world.” This is very strong. The world is full of confusion and sin, but those who follow Jesus are meant to shine so others can see truth and hope. Jesus explains this more in Matthew 5:16, “Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Good works shine. Obedience shines. A clean heart shines. When we live the way Jesus taught, people can see God’s love through us.

Jesus warns that light must not be hidden. In Luke 11:33 He said, “No man, when he hath lighted a lamp, putteth it in a cellar, neither under the bushel, but on the stand, that they that enter in may see the light.” Jesus wants our lives to shine openly, not secretly. Kindness, mercy, honesty, purity, and obedience are meant to be seen.

Jesus also explains that the eye is like a lamp that guides the whole body. In Luke 11:34 He says, “The lamp of thy body is thine eye: when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when it is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.” This means we must guard our heart and mind. If we look to Jesus and keep our focus on Him, His light fills us. But if we turn toward sin, darkness grows inside.

John the disciple also helps us understand how to walk as children of light. He wrote in 1 John 1:5, “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” And in 1 John 1:7 he explains, “If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” To walk in the light means to obey God, to turn from sin, and to follow Jesus closely every day.

The Old Testament also speaks of God’s people shining with His light. Isaiah wrote in Isaiah 60:1, “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of Jehovah is risen upon thee.” This is a picture of God’s people filled with His brightness. As Jesus brings God’s glory to us, we rise and shine through Him.

Daniel also wrote that God’s wise and faithful people will shine. Daniel 12:3 says, “And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” Jesus calls us to live this way, helping others find the truth and turn to God.

To be children of light is simple and beautiful. We listen to Jesus. We obey His words. We turn away from darkness. We let His truth shape our actions. And we shine so others can see the love of the Father.

1 John 1:6 - If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

*Walking in darkness is DESCRIPTIVE of children of the devil. Walking in the light is DESCRIPTIVE of children of God.

Only those who are saved/born again believers are in the light.

Acts 26:18 - to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.

2 Corinthians 6:14 - Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

Ephesians 5:8 - for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light. Children of the devil walk in darkness, not in the light. Children of God walk in the light, not in darkness. IF confirms these positions in verses 6 and 7. It's one or the other.

In 1 John 2:9, we read - He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. In vs. 11 - But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

*Compare with 1 John 3:10 - In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, (compare with 1 John 1:6 - does not practice the truth) nor is he who does not love his brother.

*Notice that walks in darkness, hates his brother is DESCRIPTIVE of children of the devil.

Wong again as is usual for you

If ye love me, keep my commandments. (john 14:15)

To edify, not to justify. They were already saved.
[Jhn 14:3 KJV] 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.
[Jhn 14:1 KJV] 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
[Jhn 14:12 KJV] 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. (mat 19:17)
.
To edify, Christ was not teaching him a way to be justified.

You didn't include the preceding verse (purposefully I bet)

[Mat 19:16-17 KJV]
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Do you see the words in the verse Mat 19:16 that you neglected to include? The key words are: "what good thing shall I do". If we are to be saved by what we do, then yes, all of the laws and commandments must be kept, and kept perfectly, from the very first instant of life to the last instant, which is impossible. But Christ is the Savior, man is not, and He alone saves, so those who become saved, are not saved by their works, but by Christ, and by what He has achieved.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never see death.(John 8:51)

And the words that are to be kept are these: to believe in Christ as Savior - the keeping of which, must come as a gift from God.
And if one keeps them, then it is because he was already saved, and the keeping comes from that.

[Jhn 8:24 KJV] 24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.

[Jhn 8:30 KJV] 30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.

[Jhn 6:37, 39-40 KJV]
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. ...
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Many are not requirements but overall they reflect living under the new covenant.
The Bible says that abiding/remaining/continuing in Christ and the Father IS what eternal life is:
24As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. IF IT DOES, you will also remain in the Son and in the Father. 25And this IS the promise that He Himself made to us: ETERNAL LIFE.…(1 John 2:24)

The word translated abide is the Greek verb μένω which means:
1. to remain
2. (in a place) to abide, to stay
3. (of expectancy) to await
4. (in a state) to continue
5. (in a task) to endure
6. (of a relationship) to exist permanently in, inseparably united (inhere, adhere)

John wrote that it was Jesus Himself who IS the life. By virtue of His continual connection to us (the "branches") His life (which is the life of the Father) would continue to be shared with the branches so long as we remain/abide/continue in the Vine in a dependent, faith/love relationship we will share the life of the Son and Father and bear fruit. Although we did not do anything tot EARN this relationship we still must choose to continue to believe in the gospel and to abide in Christ. It is not about being perfect but being faithful to Him. Every covenant relationship (old and new) required fidelity.

It seems to me that those in these forums that talk about the Ten Commandments are concerned about the error that Luther called ANTINOMIANISM - the teaching that we can live in disobedient rebellion and still remain in covenant with Him - as if the Son and His bride had what is called an OPEN MARRIAGE. I have personally known even ministers who take this view and, in pursuing this idea they make "shipwreck" of their faith and of the faith of others.

10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

This is Peter speaking to the crowd gathered beneath the upper room in which those gathered there received the Holy Spirit. This is not written by Paul, so ignoring it or saying Paul is not authorative will not hold water.

Peter says that Jesus is our salvation. He says there is salvation in no one else. That means all your self effort will not secure your salvation from your sins. God has given Jesus and yet there are those who try to deceive, because they are deceived and do not understand the truth, and say you also must work for your salvation.
Salvation is not works + Jesus. This is not true. As we can see above or find in any Bible translation, Peter, one of Jesus disciples and who certainly knows more than any one of us, says salvation is through Jesus ONLY.

THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ETERNAL LIFE ACCORDING TO JESUS
(All verses are from the ASV.)

Jesus never left people unsure about eternal life. When someone asked Him how to enter the Kingdom, His answer always pointed to the same truths: trust in Him, keeping God’s commandments, doing the Father’s will, following His voice, and staying united with Him.

One of the clearest moments is when the rich young ruler came with a sincere question. The Scripture says, “And behold, one came to him and said, Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him… if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments (Matthew 19:16–19). Jesus then listed the commandments to show exactly what He meant. Eternal life is connected to obeying God.

Jesus also said that calling Him Lord is not enough. Eternal life belongs to those who do the Father’s will. “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven (Matthew 7:21). This makes obedience to God’s will part of the path to life.

Jesus also linked eternal life with keeping His word. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never see death (John 8:51). Keeping His word means trusting Him, obeying Him, and letting His teaching guide our daily steps.

He also taught that we must abide in Him. Abide in me, and I in you… for apart from me ye can do nothing (John 15:4–5). To abide in Him is to stay close to Him, listen to His voice, and walk in His teaching. Jesus explained how this abiding works: If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love (John 15:10). Obedience is not a burden. It is the way we remain in His love.

Jesus also spoke of following Him, because He is the only way that leads to the Father. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life (John 10:27–28). Eternal life is promised to those who hear His voice and follow His steps.

He also spoke of the final judgment, showing that our choices matter. “They that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment” (John 5:28–29). Here Jesus shows that eternal life is tied to a life shaped by obedience, faith, and goodness.

Together, these teachings show that eternal life is given to those who believe in Jesus, follow Him, keep the commandments, abide in His love, walk in the Father’s will, and live a life of doing good. His words form one simple, clear path.

Isaiah 60:1-12
Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you,And His glory will be seen upon you.
3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

4 “Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you;
Your sons shall come from afar,And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.
5 Then you shall see and become radiant,And your heart shall swell with joy;
Because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.
6 The multitude of camels shall cover your land,The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah;
All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense,
And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.
7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you;
They shall ascend with acceptance on My altar, And I will glorify the house of My glory.

8 “Who are these who fly like a cloud, And like doves to their roosts?
9 Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me; And the ships of Tarshish will come first,
To bring your sons from afar, Their silver and their gold with them,To the name of the Lord your God,
And to the Holy One of Israel, Because He has glorified you.

10 “The sons of foreigners shall build up your walls,And their kings shall minister to you;
For in My wrath I struck you, But in My favor I have had mercy on you.
11 Therefore your gates shall be open continually; They shall not be shut day or night,
That men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles, And their kings in procession.
12 For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish, And those nations shall be utterly ruined.

How can anyone do that perfectly? No one can
In that same Chapter Matthew 19, you pointed out that rich man
Who walked away sad. The Disciples saw this and asked Jesus, how can anyone enter Heaven?

Jesus replied with man (People) "it is impossible". Then he said With God all things are possible.
So he went to a cross willingly and died once physically. Then risen where new life in Father's Spirit and Truth is given the Holy Spirit for each personally. The same Spirit that led Jesus, to lead us in love and mercy to all also.
Our turn, you think, I now know after many years trying to do what no other person can do, thats is done for us in Son as risen for us to be risen in Father's Spirit and Truth too, thank you

Did Jesus say it was easy? trust the Holy spirit to guide you, we all stumble but must continue, this is why Jesus said to endure until the end, endure. Jesus did say Ask out Father in MY name, try it and see.

Jesus gives an interesting answer to this question:

John 6:24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.

25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”

26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.

No "commandments", no "law", no "statutes"; just believe. This was said to Jews, not even to Gentiles.

The problem with the arguments of the Judaizers is that they take Jesus' words about commandments out of context and ignore other words of His. Context, as usual, is the Achilles' heel for cultists and heretics.

So believe in the one he has sent but not necessarily believe what the one he sent said, is that it?

I studied that part about God sending His Holy Spirit to believers? The Bible says He only sends Him to those who obey. So....that means not everyone has Him and explains why such people don't want or see that obedience to God is part of salvation or the current covenant.

🤔

That's nonsense. Every person receives the Holy Spirit when they become a believer.

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, Ephesians 1:13

There are also the spiritual gifts available, but I do not think your teacher believes in those since his salvation is based on works.

You are straying further and further from the truth but that's your business. I contend for the truth which is the only reason I ever respond to all the unbiblical and dangerous poison being posted by some people here.

Jackdonkey questions receive commensurate responses.

How "christian" of you. If you believe in the one he sent then you also need to believe what the one he sent said, Matt 7:21. People with adequate reading comprehension take that to mean just speaking with your mouth won't get you to the kingdom but the one who does (verb, a word used to describe an action) the will of my heavenly father

How many times do you people need to hear that no one believes in works based salvation? Do you ignore that on purpose? James is clear, you see then that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. Please don't waste your time telling me the words don't mean what the words clearly say.
