The primary law of the New Covenant is the law of the Spirit of life in Christ and other like laws that are associated and laws subjective to it. If it were the ten commandments, then that would make the New Covenant another version of the Old Covenant, not a New Covenant. For the New Covenant to actually be new, it must have new law. And the law of the NC must be consistent with its other stipulations not in direct conflict to them
[Rom 8:2 KJV] 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
The New Covenant is not established on new laws- you will not find this anywhere in Scripture.
The New Covenant is established on better promises
Heb 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a
better covenant, which was
established on
better promises.
A covenant is not laws, a covenant is an agreement. The old agreement, was established on faulty promises, of what the people would do.
Exo 19:8 Then all the people answered together and said, “
All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” So Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord.
God said He would have never made another agreement/covenant had it not been for the people breaking it, so His words were never the issue.
Heb 8:7 For if that first
covenant had been faultless,
then no place would have been sought for a second. 8
Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah
Because the people did not continue in their promises.
God promised not to change the words of His covenant- God's laws, because you can't make something written by God, more perfect Psa19:7 you can't make something that is holy by God, more holy Rom7:12
Psa 89:34 My covenant I will not break,
Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.
So God said, I will write a new covenant- it will still have My laws - that only God can define and He did Deut4:13 Exo20:6 Exo34:28 but now I am going to write them in our your heart and your mind and it will be established on better promises of what I will do. We still need to cooperate with God and sadly many do not Rom8:7-8
Heb 8:10 For this
is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord:
I will put
My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and
I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
Why Jesus taught not to break or teach others to break the least of these commandments Mat5:19-30 and in doing so one will be in fear of sin and judgement. Mat5:19-30. If we are in Christ we are subjecting ourselves to His Spirit and keeping His commandments through what He does John14:15-18. God's laws went from tablets of stone to tablets of the heart 2Cor3:3 Heb8:10 based on the better promises of what He will do, if we love and cooperate with Him.
