The BIG Question not asked out loud concerning Genesis 6:1-6?

Why were those angels able to reproduce sexually?
In my opinion, based on my understanding of the pertinent scripture, I would have to say yes.

Scripture indicates that they were able. At the very least they were capable of sex with humans. It is implied that the angels were of the male variety and probably set their sights on females of the human variety. I will leave it to your imagination as to what came next.

Actually, this question has been asked many times in various threads through-out the years. Some posters say yes, some no. Typical of the BDF. Never a consensus.

A big question IMO is why would angels have a reproductive organ? Do they have urinals in heaven? Did the angels who got kicked out of heaven receive that punishment for peeing against the wall of the heavenly Jerusalem instead of using the heavenly bathrooms stocked with Angel Soft TP?

Why is it necessarily so logical to conclude that angels are capable of doing man things while it's supposedly impossible to assume that men can exist in any sort of angelic state? That God prescribed man 120 years because he is 'but flesh' implies that God 'scrapped' this initial design for man seeing that he didn't sustain the spirit as is of original intent, as evidenced of God's continual contending with him. That is, man was intended to be (exist) sustained in a spiritual, within a body. But the flesh "jacob'ed" the spirit...

... nobody gets how I think, I know this.

IMO the idea that angels mated with women in Genesis 6 almost certainly originates in Babylonian mythology that had stories of divine beings mating with women. It seems likely that the exiled Jews who remained in Babylon incorporated this mythology into their traditions, which eventually was incorporated into the Babylonian Talmud and the Masoretic Text from which we get our OT.

An intermediate step in this process appears in Targum Pseudo-Jonathan. Targums are redactions of the oral liturgical paraphrasings of scripture that developed in post-Babylonian-captivity Judah, to deal with the population’s pervasive inability to speak Hebrew. At religious gatherings, someone would read some portion of scripture aloud in Hebrew, and a Targumist would recite its Aramaic intepretation, that often was subject to poetic license in order to make it conform to rabbinic tradition (Halacha).

The Halacha in Targum Jonathan is that of Judaism as defined by R[abbi]. Akiba and his school. Since Biblical practices often differed from those considered proper in Rabbinic times, the Targumists deliberately changed the text whenever necessary to bring it into conformity with Rabbinic Halacha. Historical accuracy was often sacrificed for the sake of Halachic expediency and need.
Studies in Targum Jonathan to the Prophets, Leivy Smolar, et al, pg. xxix

In Genesis 3:6 of Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, the serpent is identified as Sammael, the angel of death.

And the woman beheld Sammael, the angel of death, and was afraid; yet she knew that the tree was good to eat, and that it was medicine for the enlightenment of the eyes, and desirable tree by means of which to understand. And she took of its fruit, and did eat; and she gave to her husband with her, and he did eat.
In Genesis 4:1 Adam knows his wife had sex with Sammael, and she conceived Cain from the angel (of the lord)

And Adam knew that his wife Eve had conceived from Sammael the Angel (of death) and she became pregnant and bore Cain. And he was like those on high and not like those below. And she said: ‘I have got a man from the angel of the LORD’

Genesis 4:1 in the Palestinian Targum says

And Adam knew his wife Eve had desired the Angel; and she conceived, and bare Cain; and she said, I have acquired a man, the angel of the Lord
Verse 21:2 of the aggadic-midrashic work called Pirkei de-Rabbi Eliezer says

(Sammael) riding on the serpent came to her, and she conceived; afterwards Adam came to her, and she conceived Abel, as it is said, "And Adam knew Eve his wife" (Gen. 4:1). What is the meaning of "knew"? (He knew) that she had conceived. And she saw his likeness that it was not of the earthly beings, but of the heavenly beings, and she prophesied || and said: "I have gotten a man with the Lord"
This is all based on a little research. Make of it what you will. I'm no expert on it by any means

Why do you call them angels? They are called sons of God. Luke 3:38 calls Adam the son of God. This means that Adam was created directly by God, not by procreation. I believe this also applies to the so-called sons of God who sinned. Those "sons of God" seem to have been genetically superior to the descendants of Adam, but God required the bloodline of Adam to be uncontaminated. Noah was from a bloodline not contaminated. That's why God had to destroy all living beings apart from what made it onto the ark.

Adam was called the Son of God because he was created sinless directly from the hand of God.

For that reason... he was able to be led of the Spirit.

Those led of the Spirit are sons of God. Romans 8:14

No human since Adam's fall qualified to be called a son of God, not until the Church age began.
Since then, it now holds true! Romans 8:14

Adam was created with the ability to sexually reproduce.
Yet, he had no woman given him when he first started out.

Question:

If Adam sinned and fell before having naming all the animals he was assigned to?
Would God have presented Adam with the woman?

Likewise...
Like Adam, angels were given their own assignment by God concerning the prehistoric world.
Then, Lucifer sinned and began his rebellion amongst the angels.

Unlike Adam, who completed what was assigned him by God.
The rebellion of Satan is what caused God to call off providing the angels with their own females.
The fact that they were created male, and proven to be able to reproduce, I believe reveals this to be true.

****************************************

From 2 Samuel 7

And when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He will build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
14 I will be his Father, and he will be My son. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.
15 But My loving devotion will never be removed from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
16 Your house and kingdom will endure forever before Me, and your throne will be established forever.”
17 So Nathan relayed to David all the words of this entire revelation.

1When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.

err ask God, you won't get an answer, just another thread of leaning on you own understanding, honestly you make me sick

The BIG Question not asked out loud concerning Genesis 6:1-6?

Why were those angels able to reproduce sexually?

,,,,,,

Because they had taken form of men. Angels in heaven can't, men on earth can.

Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. (Gen. 19:1)
“Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.” (Gen. 19:5)

The BIG Question not asked out loud concerning Genesis 6:1-6?

Why were those angels able to reproduce sexually?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good Question Genez

I asked myself this question over the years and this is what I came up with.

IMO Angels are Definity spiritual beings but when they came to earth, they assumed a body of flesh and blood on this planet which I think they were aware of the consequences.

,,,,,,

It depends on how you read it:

Genesis 6:1–6

1 When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.

I have always understood this as the sons of God coming from Seth's lineage, and the daughters of humans came from Cain's line.

So when I read verse 4:
"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."

The mention of the Nephilim was just parenthetical, and the "heroes of old, men of renown" are the offspring of Seth's and Cain's lineage.

🥳

Well the Bible says that Angels can appear in physical form.. Time and time again the Bible reveals this..

That does not make them able to sexually reproduce....
Not unless God designed their physically materialized body to be able to do so.

Here is an example of how a human was dematerialized and materialized back into physical form.

As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water.
What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot.
Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch
did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled
about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea. Acts 8:36-40

Phillip re-appeared as his body had been designed to be by God.
Angels were doing that all the time!
When they materialize, they are what they really are!

It will be like Star Trek, where Scotty utilized the Transporter to dematerialize, and transporting people to materialize elsewhere.
We are in for something in the future that right now can only seem like fantasy!

1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—

grace and peace ............

The mention of the Nephilim was just parenthetical, and the "heroes of old, men of renown" are the offspring of Seth's and Cain's lineage.
That's a racist view with no biblical basis. In the days of Noah, everyone REGARDLESS of lineage except Noah and his family was extremely wicked, so much so that God had to wipe them all out.

Then, Seth was not a human?
Seth was human.

So when I read verse 4:
"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."

Something is not lining up correctly with that deduction.
Besides.. When do believers produce offspring with unbelievers?
And, they turn out to be giants?

.

This big question is loaded with erroneous assumption that "angels have a reproductive organ“, see the simple answer in #13.

This is like the big cliched theological questions - "Why did God create evil?" - God didn't create evil, everything he created was good; it was the perversion of goodness that causes evil; "Are all religions worship the same God?" - there's only one God, but not all religions "worship" Him through the proper way. "Worshipping" a golden calf as God is idolatry. "why does a loving God send people to hell?" People are already automatically bound to hell, God is pulling them out. Before you dive in, you better examine the question first.

The BIG Question not asked out loud concerning Genesis 6:1-6?

Why were those angels able to reproduce sexually?,

IMO, They weren't able to reproduce sexually.

Gen 6:1
And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
Gen 6:2
That the sons of God (οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ θεοῦ) saw (ἰδόντες) the daughters of men (τὰς θυγατέρας τῶν ἀνθρώπων) that they were fair (ToBoTh, καλαί) ; and they took (ἔλαβον) them (ἑαυτοῖς) wives ('iShShaH, γυναῖκας = woman/female/wife) of all (ἀπὸ πασῶν) which they chose (ὧν ἐξελέξαντο). (Note: ToB is the same word used when God saw that what He had made was good (ToB) and very good.
Gen 6:3
And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
Gen 6:4
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God (οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ θεοῦ) came in unto (εἰσεπορεύοντο) the daughters of men, (πρὸς τὰς θυγατέρας τῶν ἀνθρώπων) and they bare children to them(ἐγεννῶσαν ἑαυτοῖς), the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

The expression "came in unto" sometimes just mens "came in to", as when the angel Gabriel came in unto Mary (i.e. came into the room she was in)
Luk 1:26
And in the sixth month was the messenger Gabriel sent by God, to a city of Galilee, the name of which is Nazareth,
Luk 1:27
to a virgin, betrothed to a man, whose name is Joseph, of the house of David, and the name of the virgin is Mary.
Luk 1:28
And the messenger having come in (εἰσελθὼν) unto her (πρὸς αὐτὴν), said, 'Hail, favoured one, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women;'

Sometimes demons taking up residence in a person is described as coming into them.
Jhn 13:27
And after the sop Satan (ὁ Σατανᾶς) entered (εἰσῆλθεν) into him (εἰς ἐκεῖνον). Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

Mar 5:12
So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that (ἵνα) we may enter (εἰσέλθωμεν) them (εἰς αὐτοὺς).
Luk 8:30
Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” because (ὅτι) many demons (δαιμόνια πολλὰ) had entered (εἰσῆλθεν) him (εἰς αὐτόν).
Luk 8:33
Then the demons went out of the man and entered (εἰσῆλθεν) the swine (εἰς τοὺς χοίρους), and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned.

So, let's reinterpret the text of Gen 6 with these facts in mind -
