"Quite often, Christians will get accused of relying on themselves instead of Christ, "

Take this with grain of salt its ok. When I was young this instrumental song was playing. I was feeling really beat up by the enemy. At the start of the song I picture me being beat up by the enemy and all I could say was Jesus.. the song just started to buid faster and faster so I pictured that tiny prayer going to heaven right to the Fathers ear and the song just stops there them BOOM I picture the Father telling the angel to go.. so he goes .. and some other angels know why and where hes going and they come also. And as the song just explodes at the end I pictured angels all around me.

I don't know why but I played the song again picturing the same thing but I said Jesus take over before I started the 2nd time. So as the angels are coming at lightening speed.. and I picture them around me.. this time I can't.. no I could not picture any angel.. there was just one standing.. it was Jesus.. oh that blew me away.

Again I was young and that taught me.. look to Him nothing else.. not angels so forth only Him. This is only about "relying on Him instead of self or anything else.

Song..
Hard Fought Hallelujah

Quite often, Christians will get accused of relying on themselves instead of Christ, since they believe one must obey Him (Heb. 5:9). They get accused by other people who identify as Christians, who believe in salvation by faith alone. These individuals who make this unfounded objection say this since Christians believe one must obey the commandments of Jesus (John 14:15).

Is this true? Do Christians (members of the church/body of Christ) rely on themselves for salvation and put hope in themselves apart from God?

No, it’s not true. We aren’t relying on ourselves to save ourselves by ourselves. It’s the exact opposite…we are simply trusting in God to save us as we obey Him (Hebrews 5:9, Matthew 7:21). If the opposite is true, then we can be saved by God by going our own way by being ignorant of God’s righteousness, as we try to establish our own righteousness, but such runs contrary to the Bible (Prov. 12:15, Prov. 16:25, Jer. 10:23; Rom. 10:3)

Was Noah trusting in himself and the ark to save him and his family when he built an ark (Gen. 6; Heb. 11:7)? Was Naaman trusted in himself to save himself from his leprosy, as well as trusting in the water when he dipped in the Jordan river (2 Kings 5:10-14)? Was the blind man trusting in himself when he went to wash in the pool of Siloam (John 9:7-11)? Were the ones of Israel who looked to the bronze serpent on Moses’ pole trusting in themselves (Num. 21:9)? Was Israel trusting in themselves or their works as they marched around the walls of Jericho (Jos. 6:15-20)? In all the examples, as they trusted to submit to the commandments of God, would they have been trusting in their own works of obedience? Or would they have been trusting in God by taking Him at His word by obeying Him?

When we follow the holy, authoritative commands found in God's Word, we are not saving ourselves on our own merit. When we follow God's commands, He saves us. We should be thankful that He has graciously given us commands which save, instead of commands which condemn, as He is a God of salvation (Deut. 32:15; 2 Sam. 22:3; 2 Sam. 22:47; Ps. 25:5; Acts 28:28; Rom. 1:16; 1 Tim. 2:4, etc etc). We should be grateful that He has warned us about what we need to avoid in this life to avoid eternal condemnation (1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:19-21; Rom. 6:1; Rom. 6:12; 1 John 3:10).

When we become a Christian and continue to follow Jesus, it isn’t showing how good we are, it’s showing how good He is (Jhn 10:11, 14, 27-28). Following Jesus doesn’t point back to our own righteousness, it points to His (Rom. 5:17, 21). Following Jesus isn’t looking to self for salvation, it’s looking to Him, the author and finisher of faith (Heb. 12:2). Following Jesus isn’t making ourselves the captain of our salvation, it’s Jesus who is the captain (Heb. 2:10). We obey God out of a love, faith, and out of having gratitude that we are saved in Christ. We have reverential love for Him (Gal. 5:6), and it’s by His grace which instructs (Titus 2:11-12). Living for God is trusting God. Living a godly lifestyle is not making it about our “works”. It's trusting in Christ’s work by making it about Him by being conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29). All of our good works we do and living faithfully is not making it all about ourselves but about God, as we are His workmanship (Eph. 2:10). Living a Christian life affirms our love to Christ (John 14:15, 15:14). It affirms our devotion to Him. His love compels us (2 Cor. 5:14) to do so and God’s grace is the instructor (Titus 2:11-12). By His grace, He has showed us how.

All of this is confirmation of having a saving faith in Christ, and is confirmation that we have and are surrendering our lives to Him by allowing Him to be the Lord and King over our lives. It is not our works that makes us righteousness (Titus 3:5). It is our faith in Christ that does by the power of the gospel (Rom. 3:22, Phil. 3:9, Rom. 1:16).

Living a godly lifestyle is not making it about your “works”. It's trusting in Christ’s work by making it about Him by being conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29). The works of Christ that save us is His death, burial, resurrection, as well as what He has commanded us to do to be saved by Him. All of those are God ordained commandments/works which Jesus taught and which the Spirit revealed to the Apostles, to teach us how to be saved by His grace.

It’s not placing hope in ourselves, but rather, hope in God, as when we live faithfully. That is how we let our light shine so that others may see Him in us (Matt. 5:16). That is why God gets all the glory (Psalm 29:2, Phil 2:13). His grace tells us that we can’t live in sin any longer (Rom. 6:1). It teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and teaches us to live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world (Titus 2:12) and teaches us to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior (2 Peter 3:18).

Just as in Moses day, the ones who looked to the pole of Moses that had a bronze serpent on it for physical healing when they got bit by a snake (Numbers 21:8-9..although the bronze serpent in and of itself did not heal them, God did), we must look to the cross of Jesus Christ that had the Lord of lords and King of kings for spiritual healing. Just as Naaman submitted to the Jordan River for physical healing (2 Kings 5:14), we must submit to water baptism for the remission of sins for spiritual healing by the blood of Christ (Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16, Matt. 26:28).

By looking to the God of heaven, the cross of Christ, searching the sword of the Spirit, we learn that God has given us conditions to be spiritually healed. We are to believe in God the Father and God the Son, Christ (John 3:16, 8:24, 5:24). We are to repent (Acts 17:30). We are to confess our faith in Jesus (Acts 8:37, Romans 10:9-10). We are to be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38). We are to follow Jesus (John 10:27). We are to do the Father’s will (Matt. 7:21). We are to walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:25).

Obedience to God is founded in grace (Titus 2:11-12) and love (2 Cor. 5:14ff). The same grace that saved us (Eph. 2:8) is also the same grace that motivates, instructs, and warns us not to continue in sin (Rom. 6:1, 12-18ff). Grace teaches us (Titus 2:11-12) not to continue in sin (Rom. 6:1), and has the answers for salvation when one ask what must we/I do? What do you want me to do? (Acts 2:37-28; Acts 16:30ff; Acts 9:6). Grace tells us what we must do to enter the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 7:21). Jesus brought us salvation. On the cross, He died for all men (2 Cor. 5:15), and He brought us a soul saving message to all through His sacrifice, His words, His apostles and disciples. All of that is grace and is how His grace that has brought salvation has appeared to all men. In having mercy upon us, He saved us by His grace which also instructs us, not only how to be saved, but also how to live such a life that we can walk worthy of our calling as a Christian to glorify God (Ti. 3:5, Ti. 2:11; Eph. 2:8, 4:1; 1 Cor. 6:20).

The works of Christ that save us is His death, burial, resurrection, and what He has commanded us to do—which those are God given commandments to be saved by His grace. The term “works” is sometimes the equivalent of “obedience.” Elsewhere Jesus promised victory to those who “keep my works,” i.e., the works (commands) prescribed by him (Rev. 2:26)

Let us “continue in the grace of God” (Acts 13:43) by allowing the grace-given instructions of Christ to teach us where we are living the life that is “denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age” (Titus 2:11). God’s revealed will was given to us by Jesus. By grace, He instructs us to do the Father’s will (Titus 2:11-12; Mt. 7:21). Meeting the conditions of the One who first offers the commands and bestows the grace is not earning anything. It’s simply desiring His will over your own.

God's grace is what helps me overcome my sin, not why I sin.

God has a will for man to obey to be saved. As we do His will, it is obeying the work OF God. They are His works, which He gives to us to do. Those works are designed by HIM, not us. We are not saving ourselves by ourselves when we obey God’s divine authoritative commands. Everything which God has revealed to us through His word to be saved is grace. It’s dripping with grace and love. The Bible in the Old Testament and New Testament is full of commandments and conditional statements that God has freely given in order to receive what God freely gives. All of this is by God’s grace, as He has given instructions on how to receive what He freely gives.

These people who accuse the body of Christ outright refuse to understand that we are not saving ourselves BY ourselves when we obey God’s divine authoritative commands that we read in His Word. Nor do they understand that we are not saving ourselves BY ourselves when we are obeying God. Does God save when we live in disobedience or when one lives in accordance with His will in obedience. The fact they make an issue of God saving people when they obey is disturbing. Do they think God will save people who REFUSE His WILL?

A misconception of obedience? WHO'S misconception? His word is clear.

Takes a lot of talking to convince people to stay out of the water!!!

GOD went through a lot of trouble to get his new rebirthing plan down and took around 34 years or more and a lot of willing souls to get everything in place.

The first step was to set the stage for JESUS so John the only human in scripture born with the Holy Ghost.

What was his mission? Why was he baptizing?

Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Matthew 3,
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

The same person who was baptized to fulfil all righteousness said this in John 3,

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

As we can see when he was baptized both things happened, he came out of the water and received the Holy Ghost.

INSTRUCTIONS JESUS gave HIS DISCIPLES, key word HIS DISCIPLES.

Matthew 28,
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

JESUS again gave INSTRUCTIONS, TO HIS DISCIPLES.

Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

THIS HAPPENED.

Acts 2:3-4
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:38 which was the first message that JESUS promised to be preached in Jerusalem is very clear what me must do to get rid of our sins.

What happened when that message was preached, people were humbled?

Acts 2,
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

They OBEYED the message and ABOUT THREE THOUSAND SOULS WERE ADDED.

So when were they reborn? For sure after they OBEYED and ACTED ON IT.

Since it was JEW'S custom to name their first man child after their father GOD when though so much trouble to have Zechariah name his first son JOHN?

We are saved by grace!!

The name John, in Hebrew, is Yochanan (יוחנן). It is derived from the Hebrew name Yohanan, which means "God is gracious" or "God has been gracious". The name can also be written as Yohanan.

GOD gracly gives is water to get rid of our sins, OT animal sacrifices had to be made today JESUS blood covers them.

GODS has a PERFECT plan and showed us how to be reborn with instructions.

With all of that show me in HIS word that says, "grace removes sin"

That's what being baptized in JESUS name is all about REMOVING OUR SIN.

Keep this in mind IF WE DON'T get rid of our sins, HOW CAN GOD HEAR US?

John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

So how do we get rid of our sins?

No reason for a lot of words, just scripture please.

First, I shared HIS word not my opinion so it's not my view it's HIS word.

Being baptized in JESUS name is the only way to get rid of our sins, correct?

Sin separates us from GOD, so no one with sin can Enter heaven, correct?

Great post!

This morning I came across Jesus' comment concerning family. He said those who hear and obey His word are His true family. Jesus' words reveal true belief involves obedience.

Luke 8:19-21
Then came to him (Jesus) his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.

And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

okay, I read from your view, one, anyone has to be water Baptized to be saved or else no way, is that true from your view?

Thank you
Jesus said, "...Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." Mark 16:15-16

Jesus also said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;" (John 14:15-16) Jesus' words remind me of what Peter said at Pentecost: "Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus for remission of sin and you shall receive the gift of the the Holy Ghost." (Comforter)

Again, Jesus said, "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." (John 14:21) He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak." John 12:48-50

We might differ on what needs to be obeyed and the reasons, but not the importance. In the end, we all believe obedience is essential. The issue becomes when we end up on not agreeing on what we mean by obedience. I’m not advocating obedience is the means and the only means of salvation without the need of grace, mercy, faith and love. When lost sinners obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered to them (Rom. 6:17)..they expressed their faith and desire to be saved by God’s grace..humbly throwing themselves on His mercy. The doctrine that was delivered unto them was not something they earned or could boast about. It is of God. The gospel is of God (2 Thess. 2:14; Rom. 1:16). Thus, any form of obedience from a heart of faith that is motivated, driven, and fueled by the gospel call of salvation (Acts 2:39) cannot possibly be one as earning or boasting..and cannot be considered relying or trusting in self. The only boasting one can do is give glory to God (1 Cor. 1:13; 2 Cor. 10:17) for what all He did in providing the means of salvation. Not self. The only boasting/rejoicing one can do once they get saved is with the testimony of their conscience with godly sincerity…by the grace of God (2 Cor. 1:12). I’m not advocating a kind or type of obedience that is boastful in ourselves (Titus 3:5) or our own righteousness (Rom. 10:3), or one that is legalistic or Phariseeish. I’m not advocating a follow the rule obedience with zero faith, zero love and not depending on grace and mercy when we fall short. I’m advocating one that is of faith in submitting to the righteousness of God (Rom. 10:3) through/by the power/authority of Christ Jesus our Lord (Mt. 28:18), who is the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him (Heb. 5:9).

Sorry,I disagree, God's Son in his shed Blood is the last sacrifice for sin, all sin, he took away all sin in his willing death. John 1:29, John 19:30 it is done for us too. To get given the new life in his risen Life and be willingly dead to our own independent flesh. thanks God loves us all otherwise the cross would not have ever happened, you think? I now know after a long walk under Law first, that you, I see are under presently, love you thank you

No one is saving themselves BY themselves when they in humble submission rely on in God’s divine authoritative commands that they read in His word. God saves when one submits/obeys His teachings. They are HIS teachings, which HE gives. Thus, there can be no boasting whatsoever on the part of man. Simply gratitude and thankfulness that God has given mankind.

Pursuing holiness and trying to live in accordance with God's Word is a response to God's love and grace, not legalism. Grace is a gift from God that is accessed by faith (Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 5:2). When one has BIBLICAL faith, they WANT to live a life that honors God and is consistent with His teachings. 1 Peter 1:15–16 exhorts us to be holy.

Seeking holiness is about loving God and being thankful, not about earning salvation.

A saving faith will not be dead, as it will be a faith that works/obeys (Jms. 2:14-26). Our obedience demonstrate our LOVE and DEVOTION to God, as we desire to live according to His word (Jn. 8:31, 14:15, 23-24). Obedience does not earn or negate grace. Following God's word is a result of our relationship with Him, not earning salvation. God’s grace instructs us to live for Him (Titus 2:11-12; Rom. 6:1) and when we obey God, He is working in us, (Phil. 2:12-13), as those are HIS words that are in OUR lives working, NOT OURS. God’s grace is the SOURCE of our spiritual growth and obedience. Our relationship with God begins and is sustained by HIS grace through OUR FAITH (Eph. 2:8; 1 Peter 1:5). It is HIS grace that INSTRUCTS us to align OUR will with HIS will. This is how we grow in the grace of our Lord and Savior (2 Peter 3:18, 1:5-11), and continue in it (Acts 13:43).

God’s saving grace calls us to repentance (2 Peter 3:9) and restoration (Jms. 5:19-20). By following God's commands, we become more Christ-like and strengthen our bond with Him (2 Peter 1:5-8). Our obedience stems from a heart of love and gratitude. It's a reflection of our faith and trust in Him, and His grace enables us to live a life that honors Him.

Obedience is godly walk or conduct of surrendering to God. Submitting to Jesus in FAITH, living for HIM out of gratefulness due to being saved from sin by grace…is NOT achieving righteousness by our OWN WORKS. It is JESUS who make us righteous through the faith (Phil. 3:9).

Legalism is the idea that is often motivated by a desire to EARN favor with God or to ACHIEVE righteousness through PERSONAL EFFORT—I’d go so far as to say they are desiring to do this WITHOUT God’s grace in their lives. It’s all with works and works ONLY.
"Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; (conduct)

Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:13-16) "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; (to those in the world) that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation (conduct) honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation." (1 Peter 2:9-12)

I would argue Augustinian's theology that all of salvation is due to God's grace alone. Obedience is not a means to earn salvation, but rather a response to the grace God has already bestowed, signifying a complete reliance on God's mercy and a willingness to surrender one's will to His, making obedience a vital expression of faith and a necessary component of the Christian life, not a requirement for salvation itself; essentially, one is saved by God's grace alone, and obedience is a natural outcome of that grace received.
Augustinian theology is poisoned with the gnostic idea of total inability. Augustine converted to Christianity, but didn't leave all of his former gnostic training behind, and consequently infected protestantism with that pernicious idea through Calvin and Luther, who discarded the early church fathers and relied heavily upon Augustine's writings to develop their theologies.

Gnostics believed that it was impossible for flesh to do anything good; so do believers in the doctrine of total inability. So to this way of thinking any act a person does willfully to please god is a work of the flesh, or a work of law used to justify one's self. So consequently, good works are described as something God does through us, as if we are sock puppets with no agency, or something, and can't do anything good of ourselves.

The fine line between gnosticism and Christianity is that though man is totally unable to please God in the flesh, he has been empowered by God through his word and holy spirit to willfully do good works by walking in obedience to the word and spirit.

So in sum, a believer in Christ who in a fleshly body walks after the spirit in faith has total ability to please God by doing good works of his own will.

Quite often, Christians will get accused of relying on themselves instead of Christ, since they believe one must obey Him (Heb. 5:9). They get accused by other people who identify as Christians, who believe in ew 7:21). If the opposite is true, then we can be saved by God by going our own way by being ignorant of God’s righteousness, as we try to establish our own righteousness, but such runs contrary to the Bible (Prov. 12:15, Prov. 16:25, Jer. 10:23; Rom. 10:3)
Isa 59:1 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

It does matter if you claim Christ or not sin separates you from God.

The truth is if it is by their own power or the Spirit to not sin the more good you do the better.

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Joh 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Joh 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

Jesus said if you do not keep His commandments you do not love Him.

People who believe in faith alone will dabble in sin making the excuse they cannot abstain from sin so if someone claims obey Jesus they do not like it.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

There is no excuse for a Spirit led person will not sin and God will deliver them from temptation so they can escape it.

2Ti 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Some people do not allow the Spirit to lead them because they want to sin making excuses they cannot abstain from sin which they are ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The Bible says turn away from these people.

They act like the Spirit will not help them not to sin by saying they cannot abstain from sin.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

They would not allow the Spirit to lead them and enjoyed iniquity but thought they were alright.

1Co 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Charity, love in action, is greater than faith, and faith works by love.

No love no faith.

1Co 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth.

Charity does not sin but rejoices in the truth to allow the Spirit to lead you to abstain from sin.

1Co 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

Paul said he could have all faith, so that he could remove mountains, but if he did not have charity, he is nothing.

Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
Jas 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Jas 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

James said without charity their faith is dead and a person is justified by works of love and not faith alone.

1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1Jn 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

John said without charity the love of God does not dwell in them.

Do not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed, works, and in truth.

Concerning faith alone they do not understand Paul.

We are saved by faith and not by works when we first come to Christ for that is all we can do.

But when we receive the Spirit we have to have works of love to have faith.

Paul, and James say the same thing but people argue over them.

Love can only be valid in works which is why it is called charity.

It is about love which they neglect saying faith alone so they can enjoy sin and say they cannot abstain from sin which is not love.

1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Sinning is of the world and not love.

1Ti 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Ti 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1Ti 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The love of money is the root of all evil for it neglects the poor and needy, and love is the fulfilling of the law.

Many people enjoy money, and material things above their needs believing the prosperity Gospel which is not love.

People who teach godliness is gain we are to withdraw ourselves from them.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

People who hold on to sin believing they cannot abstain from sin the blood of Christ cannot wash it away for God will not take away a sin they hold on to.

@Believer08

Amen well said and thorough .

“So when were they reborn? For sure after they OBEYED and ACTED ON IT. “

“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. ( this makes us new born children in him ) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:26-

The key is that having faith doesn’t mean “ now I don’t need to do what God said “ it rather is the reason you know you do need to obey him and you actually can because and only because you believe what he said . Faith isn’t a reason not to act it’s the reason we do act as believers .

saved through faith

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. ( actions )

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works ( actions) is dead also.”
‭‭James‬ ‭2:17-18, 26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I can believe God exists and that he told the truth but if I really believed that at what point would I insist I don’t need to do what he said ? Faith isn’t a reason not to obey as many have it figured it’s the power to act

2Ti 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

“People who hold on to sin believing they cannot abstain from sin the blood of Christ cannot wash it away for God will not take away a sin they hold on to.”

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

this is what God said to do for remission of our sins. It looks it has value because Jesus shed his blood for remission of sins

what jesus did for our sins to be remitted

“for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:28‬ ‭

and what we are taught to do for remission of our sins believing that

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. “

one is what Jesus did for us and the other is what he and his apostles taught us to do for remission of sins which he died for.

jesus died for our sins that part is finished forever the atonement is there and now it’s just about who will believe the message and respond to it

Our sins died with Christ on the cross they are no more past and future sins are wiped clean in the book of life forever and ever

This is the power of the blood that was shed for our sake, we obey him not to remain in him but for him out of love and gratitude

Are you sure you are not mixing up water and Spirit Baptism?

1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Acts 1:5
For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Matthew 3:14
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
