Interesting sequence in Genesis 4-6. In Genesis 4:17-24 the genealogy of Cain, or sons of men, is listed. In the next verse (Genesis 4:25) the genealogy of Adam, or sons of God, begins and continues for all of chapter 5. The lineage of the sons of God begins with the phrase "men began to all upon the name YHWH", which distinguishes them from the sons of men who didn't.
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then men began to call upon the name YHWH. This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Genesis 4:25-26, 5:1
The book of the generations of the sons of God ends with Noah in Genesis 5:32. Then in the next 2 verses it says that the sons of God took daughters of men, which suggests the sons of men, ie the lineage of Cain.And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. Genesis 5:32-6:2
If they were truly human and sons of God then God would not have killed them.
He didn't; they all died natural deaths. Only Noah remained and his life was preserved
In your made up fantasy. Men were living to be 700 to 900 years back then and having children on average around the age of 150. Nephilim would have been alive easily 500 to 700 years.
Noah's father died 5 years before the flood. Noah's grandfather died the same year of the flood. All were dead except for Noah who was saved.
Nowhere does it say Seth's lineage is called sons of God. You are making it up.
The whole bible is about the sons of God, ie those of faith, vs the sons of men, ie unbelievers. Those of faith are begotten of God, ie, sons, whereas unbelievers are sons of Adam, ie man.
btw the godly lineage of Adam is called the sons of God 2 verses after it is described. You just have to have ears to hear and not have a stiff neck
Actually the Hebrew doesn't say that at all and you are going off a man made doctrine when the Bible doesn't declare that.
You are adding your reasoning to something not written by the Holy Spirit of God.
Only in the English. Not sure how secure someone can be believing a version that doesn't match the original. But believe as you want. I much rather go by the truth.
Your on the right track with the genealogies. Sons of God could also be translated as sons of the gods as the line of Cain were industrious and built cities and became men of renowned...possibly seeing themselves as sons of great men and so sons of the gods.
This explanation, for me, fits better the flow of scripture.
