So when did Jesus strive to earn God's favor through His own efforts?

Hebrews 4:10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

When did God cease from His works?

Heb 4:4 For He (God)has spoken in a certain place (Mt Sinai) of the seventh day in this way: And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”

Its best to let scripture define Itself, especially when it is God speaking.
You must not think too highly of the sinless, perfect life that Jesus Christ lived or His death, burial and resurrection, which provided eternal life for mankind. Your absolute obsession with the sabbath day and therefore turning it into an idol has reached the point of nauseam.

Who was commanded to keep the sabbath day in the first place? (Exodus 20:2; Exodus 31:16-17; Deuteronomy 5:15) What did Paul say about the sabbath day? (Colossians 2:16-17) Your argument is redundant. Have you read the article? Proverbs 27:17 - As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
You act like the Sabbath was the only commandment God gave in the Ten Commandments. It wasn't and if the Sabbath goes so does worship only god, not vain His holy name, do not covet or steal. Did Jesus ever teach we can break these commandment or the Sabbath?

Jesus said He is Lord of the Sabbath- said was made for mankind, so why do you want to get rid of something Jesus is Lord of. Are you lord of your house- shall we tear it down?

God said with His own voice Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy Exo 20:8 man says forget
Jesus said: the Sabbath would not end at the Cross Mat 24:20 Isa 66:23 man says it did.
Jesus said: I am Lord of the Sabbath- can you imagine saying I am lord of my house, but visitors come and tell you to tear it down and get rid of it? When did Jesus teach to get rid of the Sabbath that He is Lord of, not once. He taught the opposite.
Jesus said: Follow Me, I am the way, who kept the Sabbath. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love John 15:10 and if we abide in Him, we ought to follow His example 1 John 2:6 man says to follow man.

If it all comes down to Paul's words instead of Christ's, that not where I would want to plant my roots, especially when we are told...

2 Peter 3:15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvationas also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

1 John 3:23-24
This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another,
just as He commanded us. The one who keeps His commandments remains in Him, and He in him.

John 13:34
I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that
you also love one another.

You have the law and not the gospel.

You do not recognize the new commandment because you have not been taught the new commandment.

The new commandments to love Jesus and others as Christ loved us, is an unconditional love.

You have not been taught this so you are still under the two greatest, former commandments.

Your under the law.
In John 13:34, Jesus says:

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." (John 13:34, NKJV)

This commandment is rooted in the teachings of the Old Testament, particularly in Leviticus 19:18, which says, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." However, Jesus takes this command to a deeper level, commanding His disciples to love each other as He has loved them, sacrificially and unconditionally. This new dimension of love is illustrated further in John 15:13, where He states:

"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends." (John 15:13, NKJV)

Here, Jesus reveals the ultimate expression of love, to lay down one's life for others. This is the very love He is about to demonstrate through His own sacrifice on the cross. By saying, "As I have loved you," Jesus is calling His disciples to reflect this aspect of sacrificial love in their relationships with one another. This is the standard He sets, urging His followers to love not only in word but in action, with a love that is self giving and sacrificial.

As I’ve explained previously, the words of a book are the culmination of everything that was written. You must consider them as a whole and not isolate a single verse to make a point. It is important to approach the text in its fullness, as doing otherwise can lead to misinterpretation. The disciples already condensed and preserved the teachings of Jesus, so we should refrain from condensing them further. Some of the deeper truths could be lost in that process. If you or I are to remain in Jesus the son of GOD, we would do so by applying all he was teaching us as a whole.

Blessings.

You think highly of SDA church doctrine and seeking to appease Jesus in your best efforts to obey the 10 commandments (with a heavy emphasis on the 4th commandment) which is not the same thing as thinking highly of the sinless, perfect life of Jesus and His death, burial and resurrection. Continuing to mix the old and new covenants is not helping your case either.

My experience is when one points a finger at someone, there are three pointing back at them.. Jesus is our Judge and there is nothing anyone can hide from Him Ecc 12:13-14.

When you find the verse that Jesus reversed His blessing and abrogated His commandment and told us not to follow Him, let me know.

Guess we will also find out soon enough.

I do not think its showing highly of Jesus by not obeying Him and His commandments, not following His teachings and not following His example that He left for us. But guess we will see how it all works out soon enough.

Who said that I don't "keep" (Greek word "tereo") guard, observe, watch over) the commandments? (1 John 2:3) It's obvious what you are trusting in for salvation. Your best efforts to obey Jesus (imperfect obedience) based on your eisegesis. I'm trusting in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of my salvation. (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

I never said anything about you. I do my best not to make it personal and just focus on what the scriptures says. Our opinion, accusations, praise to each other means nothing. Its about God and following His Word. His is the only opinion that matters.

Pump your chest much?

How do you keep the sabbath? Do you go to church on this day? Do you allow your pastor to work on this day? Or do you stay at home and rest on this day?

Are you saying we shouldn't strive to follow in the example of Jesus? Jesus said the priests who worked on the Sabbath were held blameless- Doing the work of God is not a sin- otherwise both Jesus and the apostles sinned and they preached on the Sabbath as well. I hope this is not what you're insinuating.

so, what does "keep it holy" mean to you, as a Christian?
There are lots of ways of keeping the Sabbath day holy as shown in the bible.

This is how it was consistently kept all throughout scriptures

Exo 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.

The point of the Sabbath is to put all secular works aside and focus on Jesus. He says the Sabbath is a delight! How can it not be spending time with God on the day He set aside from Creation. Exo 20:11

Isa 58:13
If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord honorable,
And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,

Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord;
And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth,
And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
The mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

The Sabbath is a holy convocation i.e. holy gathering like in Chruch

Lev 23:3 ‘Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.

Did this change in the New Testament?

Not by Jesus

Luke 4:16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah.

Did it change after the Cross?

Acts 13:42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.
Acts 13:44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.
Acts 15:21 21 For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”
Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.

Not by the apostle's

Does it change in the New Heaven and New Earth

Yes. Only because now instead of worshipping Christ in spirit, the saints will be in His physical presence, but the Sabbath remains just as what was promised.

Isa 66:23 “For as the new heavens and the new earth
Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord,
“So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another,
All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.

Christ blesses us when we keep the Sabbath and only He can reverse His blessing Num 23:20

Isa 56:2 Blessed is the man who does this,
And the son of man who lays hold on it;
Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

Without His blessing we are nothing

Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Where is the verse that says that animal sacrifices end? If sacrifices were commanded in order to "keep the law", then they are on the same level as all the many rules about how to "keep" the sabbath.
Jesus said in Matthew 5 that he didn't come to abolish the law, but to FULFILL it. Which means, that when he became our once and final sacrifice, he brought us a new covenant, or "law"... he even went on to elaborate on what he meant.... all of the "you have heard it said....." verses... explaining how his new covenant eliminated the restrictive, un-keepable laws that the Jews were under. He fulfilled all those laws. We are not bound by the jots and tittles, the minuteae of Jewish "laws"....

Jesus' law is one that is written in our hearts, not on tablets of stone. THAT is why he said, these are your two commandments... because if you live by those two commandments, you will naturally fulfill all the "carved in stone" 10....

You 7DA's are trying to put us back under the law of Moses, which essentially dismisses Jesus' sacrifice for us. I will be no part of that, and you should pray for forgiveness for your own wickedness in trying to go back to the old law....
First you need to understand the laws, this is where most of the confusion comes in, people do not have a foundational understanding of the two separate laws in the OT, and without understanding of these laws, the NT will be impossible to understand.

There are two mains laws in scripture- the law of God and the law of Moses. Many believe they are the same, but its not what the scripture teaches. The law of Moses includes the law of God because God's people keep God's law.

First lets define God's law. I believe He did a really good job of explaining it and couldn't do more so to make people understand the differences .

God's law is the Ten Commandments. You can find them here

He personally wrote it on stone for its eternal nature:
Exo 31:18 And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

He personally spoke it
Exo 20:1 And God spoke all these words, saying:

He numbered them by design - the only law numbered in scripture
Deut 4:13 So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

Note whose Covenant is this- Moses or God?

Right in the Ten Commandments God claimed them as His commandments
Exo 20:6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

After the Ten Commandments- no more was added, it is a standalone unit
Deut 5:22 “These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly, in the mountain from the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and He added no more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.

Only the Ten Commandments was placed inside the ark of the covenant
Exo 25:16 And you shall put into the ark the Testimony which I will give you.

The Ten Commandments is the work of God- not Moses and when people choose not to give credit to God for His work is doing a disservice to God. There is not more God could have possibly done - He came down from heaven to write His holy and eternal law that He claimed as His. And its so sad people deny Him of this. As if there is someone greater.

Exo 32:16 Now the tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God engraved on the tablets.

All other laws, statues, ordinances judgments etc. was handwritten on paper in a book and was placed outside the ark of the covenant as a witness against, that had all the blessing and curses for breaking the Ten Commandments, that was inside the ark.

Deut 31:24 So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished, 25 that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying: 26 “Take this Book of the Law, and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there as a witness against you;

The book contained the laws of sacrifice, Passover, yearly sabbath(s), feast days and everything not in the Ten Commandments.

So, if you were to guess, if there was a law that is perfect would it be the one written by our perfect Savior kept inside the ark of the covenant or would it be the ones handwritten by a human, in a book that was there as a witness against for breaking God's Ten Commandments.

Scripture speaks of a perfect law and it is the Ten Commandments, written by our perfect God personally.

Psa 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

Is there a law that not a jot or tittle can pass from? I mean who has more Authority than God? No one.

Is there a law that was until the Seed should come- which means it was temporary? Would that law be written on paper, which easily fades, or in stone written by the finger of God that is eternal. Can we edit God?

So if we understand these two laws, one law that is perfect, one law that contained curses and was temporary written by man, we will better understand in the NT, because the law that is perfect never becomes the law that is contrary and against. Holy and blessed by God never becomes cursed

Keep this in the back of your mind as I get into the animal sacrifices and why they ended and the scriptures that confirm this and why it doesn't affect the Ten Commandments.

@hornetguy

You asked about the scripture that says sacrificial laws ended.

The only laws that ended according to scripture were the laws that were contained in the ordinances. Where was the ordinances- in the Ten Commandments or in the law of Moses?

This is the context that no one care to quote when using Paul's writings against what God said.

Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Can this be referring to any of the Ten Commandments or specifically the Sabbath commandment that God made holy and blessed?

First we know from this verse Paul is referring to
1. Something that is handwritten
2. They were ordinances
3. they were contrary and against

Does this fit the Sabbath commandment in anyway?
1. Was the Sabbath handwritten? No, it was written by the finger of God Exo 31:18
2. Was the Sabbath and ordinances? No God called it part of "My commandments" Exo 20:6
3. Was the Sabbath contrary and against? Thats going to be a hard case to make because God wants to give us rest and blessed and made holy the Sabbath day from Creation Exo 20:11 Gen 2:1-3
4. Did Jesus say His commandments of Sabbath would end at the Cross- He taught the opposite- not to break the least of these commandments as it affects our status in heaven, not at the Cross and this means Judgement

The context doesn't fit yet sadly most don't care but if we look at the warning about Paul's writing, they will one day sooner than we think 2 Peter 3;15-16

What are the shadows laws that Paul is referring to?

Col 2:17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

Shadows laws came after the fall of man for the plan of redemption. The Sabbath started at Creation Exo 20:11 when God made everything according to His perfect plan before the fall of man and no need for redemption. Sad how man tried to make something that is part of Creation that is holy and blessed that God said Remember as something we can forget and is contrary and against. Its really an attack on our Savior as it has His signature of Creation and all that was made right in the Sabbath commandment Exo 20:11

So is being discussed here, what ended at the Cross? Lets let scripture define itself

Heb 9:10 concerned only with foods and drinks, various [b]washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.
11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things [c]to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, [d]sanctifies for the [e]purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without [f]spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Heb 10:1
10 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once [a]purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:

“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,
But a body You have prepared for Me.
6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You had no pleasure.
7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—
In the volume of the book it is written of Me—
To do Your will, O God.’ ”
8 Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), 9 then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, [b]O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10 By that will we have been [c]sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

So scripture clearly tells us what ended and that was the commandments contained in ordinances that had to do with sacrifices.

So with Jesus being our High Priest in the New Covenant and because our Sacrificial Lamb, instead of doing the works of the law and bring an animal to sacrifice for our sins, our redemption is through Jesus Christ. Animal sacrifices was just a placeholder until Jesus came. The blood of animals could never take away our sins, but the blood of Christ can.

Sin hasn't changed in the NC, it is still breaking God's law 1 John 3:4 any of the Ten Commandments James 2:10-12 Mat 5:19-30 Rom 7:7 but instead of bringing a goat and lamb to sacrifice, we can go directly to Jesus when we sin, break God's law and His blood can cleanse us of all sin and unrighteousness (gives grace), but when He heals He says go and sin no more- He puts us back under the law because our salvation is from sin, we are not saved in our sins.

When we first come to Christ, He accepts us just the way we are, this is called justification. But as we grow in Christ we are not supposed to stay the same, we are to conform to His image and His law represents His character which we are to conform to and this process is sanctification, we must die of self and be reborn in Christ following His example as He always led by example.

The New Covenant was never established on new or better laws. It was established on better promises

Heb 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

God's law is perfect for converting the soul, so no need for better laws, but the better promise is God is the one doing now, He writes His law in our hearts, it went from tables of stone, to tablets of the heart. Instead of trying to obey in our strength, He is the one doing now. We however have to cooperate with Him through our great love for everything He has done for us.

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [e]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

I pray this helps a little.

Israel was a name God gave to identify His people in scripture. It was both literal and metaphorical and one was always grafted in by faith. Think of Ruth in the OT.

In God's Israel there is no Jew or Gentile, why the New Covenant was still written to Israel and we are part of the promise of Abraham when we are grafted in through faith. Gal 3:26-28

Jesus is the vine, we are the branches, we don't want our branch to be cut off. He is our example to follow if we abide in Him and if we keep His commandments, we abide in His love. John 15:10 1 John 2:6

God's people keep God's law. His version as there is no one greater than He.

Rev 14: 12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who do His (God's) commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Why we are being called out of our false teachings before its too late

Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

The New Covenant was never established on new or better laws.
Jesus disagrees with that in Matthew 5..... "you have heard it said..... but 'I' say to you....."

He gave us better "laws" because they dealt with what was in our hearts, not simply what we did to obey the law. And even there, they are not really "laws", but principles that we try to adapt in our behavior, which enables us to more closely adhere to the two "laws" that he told us were most important.

Are you saying we shouldn't strive to follow in the example of Jesus?
Please show me in my post where I even said anythign like this?
Jesus said the priests who worked on the Sabbath were held blameless- Doing the work of God is not a sin- otherwise both Jesus and the apostles sinned and they preached on the Sabbath as well. I hope this is not what you're insinuating.
What I am insinuating is you should take the spec out of your eye before you try to take the log out of your brother's eye.

I have witnessed SDA and what they do. they are not keeping the sabbath, yet they attack anyone who does not do it like they do as unsaved.

So again i ask. Are you pumping your chest like the pharisee?
