Good morning!

Leviticus Ch.1
Instructions concerning burnt offerings.
Notice the offering is to be without blemish. This is symbolic of the ultimate sacrifice.
vs. 9 The washing of the inward parts and the legs probably means purification and cleanliness.

---

Ch.2
More instructions concerning offerings.

Frankincense is mentioned. A note about frankincense: It is "from the resin sap of the Boswellia tree native to the southern coastal Arabian regions, this white, bitter smelling compound turns into a perfumed richness only befit for a King which is a reason why the biblical Israelites kept it pure and sacred" in the tabernacle.
Something I read about why frankincense was used. "The best explanation appears to be that frankincense was used in grain offerings because of its aroma; this seems most likely in view of the associations with frankincense and its scent elsewhere in the Bible. This explanation coheres with the idea that aroma plays a central role in the
world of sacrifice. This is already explicit in God’s reaction to Noah’s animal sacrifice after the flood: “The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: ‘Never again will I curse the ground because of humankind’”

vs.10 What is leftover of the meat offering shall belong to Aaron and his sons.

---

Ch. 3
Instructions concerning peace offerings.

The end of the chapter says: It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.

---

Ch. 4
Instructions concerning sin offerings. There is instructions for how priests are to do sin offerings and instructions for rulers and instructions for the common people.
It shall burn upon the altar for a sweet savour unto the Lord; and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.

---

Ch. 5
Instructions for trespass offerings.
Trespasses that are mentioned: If someone sees or knows something and they do not tell what the saw/know, this is wrong. If someone touches the carcass unclean animal. If someone touches the uncleanness of man (we'll get more into what makes a person unclean as we go along). If someone makes an oath, whether it be good or evil, if it be hidden from him when he comes to know it he shall be guilty. A person guilty in any of these things shall confess and bring a trespass offering to the priest.

---

Ch. 6
More about trespass offerings.
When someone commits a trespass against the Lord, and lies to/deceives his neighbor. When someone finds a lost item and lies about having it. The person who has done these things must pay back what they took, return the lost item(s) they found, make right what they've done wrong. The wrong doer is instructed to pay the full amount of the item and add an additional 1/5th. Then he shall bring a trespass offering, the priest shall make atonement, and he shall be forgiven.

vs.9 The Lord says that the burnt offering is the burnt offering, because of the burning upon the altar all night unto the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be burning in it. In the following verses we are told more about the burnt offering, as well as what must be done with the ashes.
As the chapter proceeds, we continue to get instructions about offerings and details about the priests part in the offerings

---

Ch.7

We continued to be told about the priests part in the offerings, as well as more instructions about the offerings.
vs.8 we are told the priest can have the hide of the animal
In vs.23 we are told that the people are not to eat any manner of fat of ox, sheep, or goat. And in vs.27 we are told that blood should not be eaten. If someone consumes blood, he shall be cut of from his people.

---

Ch.8
We are told of the consecration of Aaron and his sons. They are cleansed and dressed.
Then Moses anointed the tabernacle and everything in it, and sanctified them. Then he anointed the alter and all its vessels, sanctifying them. Then Moses anointed Aaron, to sanctify him. After this, a bullock was slew for a sin offering and the blood was used to purify the alter. Then a ram was brought in for a burnt offering, and it's blood was sprinkled round about the alter. Next was a ram of consecration, blood of this was put on Aaron and his sons right ear lobe, thumb of right hand, and big toe of right foot. The rest of the blood was sprinkled round about the alter.
We continue to be given details of the consecration.
Moses tells Aaron and his sons that they are not to leave the tabernacle for 7 days, until the days of their consecration ends. Aaron and his sons obey.

---

Ch.9
After Aaron and his sons were consecrated, they are told to offer a sin offering and a burnt offering to the Lord. Then the people are told what offerings they should bring. The priests dealt with these offerings according to the instructions that had been given to them.
Moses and Aaron came out of the tabernacle, blessed the people, the glory of the Lord appears, fire came from the Lord and consumed the offering on the alter, and the people shouted and fell on their faces.

---

Ch.10
Nadab and Abihu disobeyed the Lord, so He consumed them with fire. Nadab and Abihu violated the holy law of the priesthood. Priests must be holy before the Lord.
Later, Moses becomes aggravated at Aaron's 2 other sons because they had not eaten the sacrifice. Moses questions Aaron as to why he didn't eat the offering. Aaron basically says, "Due to the tragedy that has happened to me, would it have been right in the eyes of the Lord if I had eaten the offering?" Moses was content with this.

~~~~~~~
All this talk of lambs, I ended up purchasing lamb yesterday lol. I'm looking forward to having that soon.
I hope your day is blessed and as smashing as a lamb dinner!
Seemed like a lot to unpack today :giggle:
Ch. 31
God feels Bezaleel with wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. And he appointed him Aholiab. In all the hearts that are wise, the Lord put wisdom so that they will make everything the Lord commands. More instructions for the tabernacle.
The Lord explains the Sabbath and it's importance.
The Lord gives Moses 2 tablets of testimony written in stone with the finger of God.
Ch. 32
The people lack patience and told Aaron to make them a god. Aaron had them give him their golden earrings. He fashioned a golden calf and built an alter in front of it, and he said that tomorrow would be a feast unto the Lord. When the morrow came, the people offered burnt offerings and then they partied. They partied a lot and loudly!
God tells Moses to go down at once, because the people have corrupted themselves.
God is angry with the people, Moses pleas for the people and God holds off His anger.
Moses goes down the mountain. Joshua, who had been waiting (assuming at some point not far from Moses) thinks there is war in the
I thought the same about Joshua waiting😀
camp. Moses tells him it's not war, it's people acting stupid!
Moses, in his anger, breaks the stone tablets.
Moses burns the idol, grinds it into powder, scatters the powder over the water, and makes them drink the water.
Moses questions Aaron. Aaron says that he told the people to bring him all their gold earrings and they did. He threw the gold into the fire and out pops this idol. Likely story!
The people were naked and out of control. Moses asks if any are on the Lord's side. The sons of Levi gather to Moses. They are told to kill...probably those that there the most overt in their worship of the idol; the leaders of this debauchery. 3000 were killed.
Moses returns to the Lord. The Lord tells Moses to lead the people and He will send an angel to go before him.
God plagues the people over that fiasco with the calf.
Ch. 33
God tells Moses and the people to go to the land He promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. An angel will be sent before them. God will drive out the people groups that are in that land.
The Lord tells the people he will not go into the midst of them because they are obstinate (that is, stubborn) and His presence will destroy them. They mourn and God tells them to remove their jewelry and they do so. Taking off their jewelry was an act of humility.
Nice observation!
Moses went to the tabernacle. The people watch from their tent doors. As Moses entered the pillar of cloud descended. The people worshiped.
The Lord spoke to Moses. Face to face, as man speaks to his friend. Isn't that such a wonderful verse? How smashing it would be to speak to the Lord face to face. One day, we will!
Amen!😀
Moses left the tabernacle, but Joshua stayed. Moses prays to the Lord. Moses finds favor with the Lord.
Moses desires to see the Lord's glory, but the Lord tells him that no one can see His face and live. Then, the Lord passes by and covers Moses face, then removes His hand allowing Moses to see His back, but not His face.
There is a noticeable change in relationship...from face to face, to Moses can't see His face. The difference being, that Moses (or anyone) can't see God's face in all its glory...not in our sinful nature, that is. Note that Moses wanted to see God's glory, it's God's full glory that we can't see in our current state.
Interesting, thanks for this note!
Ch.34
As God commanded, Moses cut out 2 stone tablets (like the previous 2) and he went up to mount Sinai in the morning with the tablets. The Lord descended and stood with Moses.
Moses asks God to go with them and to pardon their sin and wrongdoing.
The Lord makes a covenant with the people. He says He will perform miracles such as haven't been seen on all the earth.
The Lord warns that the people are not to worship the gods of the land where they are going. They are to destroy their alters, images, and groves.
The Lord again tells the people to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Moses spent 40 days and nights with the Lord. He did not eat or drink. He wrote on the tablets.
Moses came down from the mountain and his face shone because he had been speaking with the Lord. The people were afraid of him. So Moses would put a vail on his face when he was with the people, but would take it off when he was with God.
Ch.35
The people are reminded of the Sabbath.
The people are told what gifts are needed for the tabernacle as well as the different skills needed. All that were skilled, men and women, contributed.
Ch.36
The people brought more than enough that was needed for the tabernacle. The people are told that no more needs to be contributed.
vs 8-38 Tabernacle construction.
Ch. 37 & 38
More construction details.
ch.38 vs 21-31 speaks of all the gold, silver, and brass that was used.
Ch. 39
Details of how the priests garments are made, as commanded by God.
vs. 32 All the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished.
They brought the tabernacle and all its furnishings to Moses.
Moses looked upon all their work and saw that they had done it as the Lord had commanded, and Moses blessed them.
Ch. 40
God tells Moses to erect/set up the tabernacle on the first day of the first month. God details how this should be done.
Moses did all that the Lord commanded.
The tabernacle was erected/set up on the 1st day of the 1st month of the 2nd year.
Moses, Aaron, and Aaron's sons cleansed themselves.
vs. 33 The work was finished.
vs. 34 & 35 The glory of the Lord fills the tabernacle.
As they journeyed, whenever the cloud lifted and moved, they went onward. If the cloud rested over the tabernacle, they did not journey. "...the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night."
Have a pleasant & peaceful afternoon/evening!
Thank you, you as well😀
EXODUS CHAPTER 31 NOTES
v7-11 Is God saying that Bezaleel and Ahisamach shall do all these things like Aaron and his sons?
I may not be understanding your question, so pardon me if I don't answer correctly. Whereas Bezaleel and the craftsmen were given wisdom of how to build the tabernacle and were allowed to build it, Aaron and his decendents were the only ones who could serve in the tabernacle, perform sacrifices, and enter the Holy Place.
EXODUS CHAPTER 32 NOTES
v1 These children!
v4 What is happening?!
v5 What?!
v7 Wow, these people have no patience! After all they saw God do for them, quickly they forget.
I feel the same way. This part always leaves me perplexed. After seeing all that God did in Egypt. After the incredible miracle of the parting of the sea...how did they forget the exhilarating feeling of walls of water on either side of them as they walk on dry land through the sea? This is not to mention that they have the pillar of cloud amongst them in the day and the pillar of fire at night.
I feel like these journeys of the children of Israel teach about the majority of people. The gate is narrow that leads to life, and few find it.
This why the Bible is our daily bread so that we do not forget.
Wisely said! It's critical, in my viewpoint.
v12 The way Moses questioned God 😲 “…Turn from they fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.” Moses told God to repent?
Moses is acting as mediator. It is my belief that this is a symbolic action of Christ our mediator. We will learn more about that much later on.
v25 The children of Israel were naked from the direction of Aaron. Didn’t catch the reasoning from Aaron
Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies...
Something interesting I read: "Nakedness in the Bible also has to do with not having one's shield for battle. Every man who did not have his shield was considered naked.
In that one act of nakedness, Israel belittled their God in the eyes of the ungodly. They were no longer an example to the world.
That is exactly what we do when we strip off our robes of faith and let go of our confidence in God. Without childlike trust in God, a Christian stands naked before the world, exposed to all doubts, fears and unbelief!"
v28 The children of Levi obeyed Moses and about 3,000 men were slayed that day. How many were the children of Levi?
How many is not specified and the count of the Levites is typical not taken due to them being set apart. More on this as we go.
v33 “And the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” - the book, meaning the Bible?
I take this to mean the Book of Life. More on this as we go...and particularly more on it as we get closer to the end of our journey.
v30 Not clear why they were afraid
This is another scripture pointing to the glory of God. In our current sinful state, we can't handle the glory of God. Moses had been with the Lord for 40 days and 40 nights. As a result, the glory of the Lord shown on Moses' face, causing great fear among the people.
v33 “And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.” - Not clear why this was done
v34 “But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.” - When did Moses start wearing a vail in front of the children of Israel?
Something interesting I read: "What Moses more likely was wanting to conceal was the fact that the glory that was on Him was fading, an indication of his inability to retain what God had imparted to him. Moses didn’t want the people to notice that the glory apparent in his life couldn’t be sustained by him. Like everyone else, he was ordinary."
Paul talks about this very thing later on.
I don't think this is a spoiler, so I will include this part... "Paul tells us that because of Jesus the glory that we can experience is different than the glory Moses experienced. That because of Jesus, ordinary people like me and you who trust what Jesus has accomplished for us are being transformed by the Holy Spirit into His image, from glory to glory.”
~~~~~~~~
Mercy, I hope I got all this right. May the Lord be with me! I'm just a wee person here :giggle:

May the Lord continue to be with us both!

Blessings!

LEVITICUS NOTES📝
CHAPTER 1
v1 God is speaking to Moses

v3 “If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the hear, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord.” - “his own voluntary will”

v9 “But his inwards and his legs shall he was in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of sweet savour unto the Lord.” - I wonder why the inwards are washed before they are burnt

v14-17 What is to be done if the burnt offering is a fowl

CHAPTER 2
v1-16 Instructions for meat offering and first fruit meat offering

v11 “No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the Lord, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the Lord made by fire.” - Not using leaven is repeated throughout the Bible thus far, makes me not want to eat things with yeast

CHAPTER 3
v1-16 Instructions for peace offering

v17 “It shall be a perpetual statue for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.” - “your generations” Is the instruction to eat blood or fat during the offerings or as a command in daily life? Verse 16 show that fat is good “all the fat is the Lord’s

CHAPTER 4
v1 God is speaking to Moses

v3-12 Sin offering for a priest who has sinned

v13-21 Sin offering for the congregation of Israel

v8 “And he shall take off from it all the fat of the bullock for the sin offering; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all he fat that is upon the inwards,” - fat is being focused on in the sin offering

v20 “And he shall do with the bullock as he did with the bullock for a sin offering, so shall he do with this: and the priest shall make an atonement for them, and it shall be forgiven them.” - this is for when the whole congregation of Israel sins in ignorance. Sin was forgiven when sin offerings were made

v22-26 Sin offering instructions for a ruler who has sinned somewhat in ignorance or his sin comes to his knowledge

v26 “And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.”

v27-35 Sin offering instructions for common people who sin somewhat in ignorance or his sin comes to his knowledge

v30 Need to review what is the horns of the alter

CHAPTER 5
v1-4 Sins of trespass

v1 Not clear on the meaning. Is it saying that if you witness a sin you must tell? If yes, tell who? I know in proverbs there is wisdom concerning talebearing

v3-4 No clear on the absolute meaning of these verses

v6-13 Instructions for trespass offering

v14 God is speaking to Moses

v15 “If a soul commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the Lord; then he shall bring for his trespass unto the Lord a ram without blemish out of the flocks, with thy estimation by shekels of siler, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering.” - Sin of trespass and sin of ignorance are separate sins and require trespass offering

v16-18 Someone can be forgiven for a sin of trespass

CHAPTER 6
v1 God is speaking to Moses

v2-5 Sins of lying and deceit are sins of trespass and require a trespass offering

v9 God told Moses “Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt offering: It is the bunt offering, because of the burning upon the altar all night unto the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be burning in it.” - law of the burnt offering v9-13

v14-23 Law of the meat offering

v17 “It shall not be baken with leaven. I have given it unto them for their portion of my offerings made by fire; it is most holy, as is the offerings of the Lord made by fire: every one that toucheth them shall be holy.”

v20-21 This was the offering of Aaron and his sons - Is bread being referred to as meant here?

v24-30 More instructions on the sin offering

CHAPTER 7
v1-10 Further instructions on the law trespass offerings

v11-21 Further instructions on the law of peace offerings

v18 “And if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings be eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be accepted, neither shall it be imputed unto him that offereth it: it shall be an abomination, and the soul that eateth of it shall bear his iniquity.” - instance where an offering will not be accepted

v23 God told Moses “Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat.” - God is saying again not to eat animal fat

v24 “And the fat of the beast that dieth of itself, and the fat of that which is torn with beast, may be used in other use: be ye shall in no wise eat of it.” - Does that mean animal fat can be eaten of animals that were killed for the intention of being eaten?

v25 God states not to eat animal fat from beast that are killed for offerings. Have not seen yet can not eat animal fat from animals who are killed for the purpose of being eaten

v26 “Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beat, in any of your dwellings.” -this appears blood should not be eaten under no circumstances

v29 Oblation meaning a thing presented or offered to God or a god

v34 “For the wave breast and the heave shoulder have I taken of the children of Israel from off the sacrifices of their offerings, and have given them unto Aaron the priest and unto his sons by a statute for ever from among the children of Israel.” - Not clear on the meaning

v37 All the laws of offerings that God spoke to Moses

v38 “Which the Lord commanded Moses in mount Sinai, in the day that he commanded the children of Israel to offer their oblations unto the Lord, in the wilderness of Sinai” - God commanded for the children of Israel’s oblations

CHAPTER 8
v1 God is speaking to Moses

v2-36 Consecration of Aaron and his sons. Seems like the Bible is repeating many things. Did this take place before or after the golden calf incident? Or did it occur before and after the incident?

v23 “And he slew it; and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the tip of Aaron’s right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot.” - Interesting details

CHAPTER 9
v4 Moses told Aaron and his sons to tell the children of Israel to make offerings because the Lord was going to appear

v5 “…the congregation drew near and stood before the Lord.”

v6 “And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord commanded that ye should do: and the glory of the Lord shall appear unto you.”

v23 After all the offerings had been made ”And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the people.”

v24 “And there came a fire out from before the Lord, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.”

CHAPTER 10
v1 Nadab and Abihu are the sons of Aaron. They offered strange fire before the Lord which he never commanded

v2 “And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.” 😲 That woke me up! Important to obey God!

v4 “And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.” - I’m seeing this as they were called to carry away the bodies of Nadab and Abihu, Aaron’s sons

v6 Is it saying that Eleazar and Ithamar are Aaron’s sons? Need to review. Moses explained to them what to do to not die before the Lord

v8 God spoke to Aaron

v9 God says not to drink wine or strong drink when going into the tabernacle or he will die

v12 “And Moses spake unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons that were left…” - This answers the questions earlier. Not all Aaron’s sons died

v19 Not clear why Aaron’s questioning made Moses content

I finished the project I was working on today.
I'm elated to hear that. Was praying for you.

Oh please lol. Don't worry about it. I'd rather be in the presence of a few typos than a Grammar Nazi. I often make errors, then realize it after the window of editing is closed lol.

~~~~~~
I'm having one of those up-all-night type of nights, or that's how it feels so far. So, I think I'll go look at your notes and then I might get started on Wednesday's scriptures. Looks like there are some long chapters ahead.
May your Wednesday be blessed 🙏
v11 “No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the Lord, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the Lord made by fire.” - Not using leaven is repeated throughout the Bible thus far, makes me not want to eat things with yeast
Oh dear, I may be ejected, but I must be candid and warn you that you are in the virtual presence of a person who uses leavening agents often.
Yeast, baking soda, and baking powder are all leavening agents. Unleavened bread can not be made with any leavening agent.
Pardon me for some lighthearted humor (except I am serious about my biscuits!). You are a better person than me! I can't nix my occasional biscuit & gravy breakfast. Well, it depends on who makes it. If I make it, it's fire. But, I was at a place in Atlanta that may not have used leavening, 'cause I could have used their biscuits to play street hockey. Or maybe in a slingshot as a projectile. I often joke that the actual sign that we are in the end times is that no one knows how to make a good biscuit anymore.
Also, I use yeast to make homemade stromboli. I can't part with these delicacies. I consider it a blessing from the Lord that I have a knack for this sort of thing. You can just leave all the leavening to me :cool:
CHAPTER 3
v17 “It shall be a perpetual statue for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.” - “your generations” Is the instruction to eat blood or fat during the offerings or as a command in daily life? Verse 16 show that fat is good “all the fat is the Lord’s
Yes, as far as the blood goes, we are getting to that in today's verses (Lev. 17:11).
Also, it just makes for better eating.
And as far as fat goes, it's certain fat that they were told to not eat.
I read something interesting about this:
It does “plainly” say that all the fat is the Lord’s. But look at how it prefaces it; it describes the fat that covers the inwards, which includes a deposit known as “perirenal fat” in modern biology, and “the fat above the kidneys” in classical biology. And the fatty mass surrounding the liver (the caul). In other words, the “visceral fat” (chest-cavity fat) as it is now called is all specifically mentioned; but not mentioned is the “subcutaneous” (under-skin) and intra-muscular fat. All of the fat you will find in ground chuck will be intra-muscular fat. So is the fatty layer that often accompanies shanks and certain steaks.
God is very serious about us not eating the fat...it [is] clear that He is speaking of visceral fat.
God only mentions the fat of oxen, sheep, and goat; it does not mention chicken fat or fish fat.
Fat is considered by many cultures, particularly those in the middle east, to be a delicacy. And as we saw, only the visceral fat is prohibited.
God promises that they will eat the fat of the land (Gen. 45:18).
There is also a dual meaning because here the fat (the same Hebrew word is used as elsewhere in Leviticus) is pictured as a blessing of plenty of food and good land. (credit: thesimpleanswers)
v30 Need to review what is the horns of the alter
If I may add a few things to your study of the horns of the alter...
The horns of the altar were a place of protection for the guilty.
Alter means a place for making sacrifices, or the killing place.
The altar points to sacrifice and death, but it also speaks of a place of safety; a refuge until a matter can be settled fairly and appropriately.
And coming up we see that David refers to Yahweh as “the horn of his salvation” ...can he be foreseeing the sacrifice Jesus would make on the cross to pay with finality the sin debt he owed? So when you see the word “horn” used as a synonym for “strength”, think “killing place of safety”. Think “cross”. (credits: John Gage)
CHAPTER 5
v1 Not clear on the meaning. Is it saying that if you witness a sin you must tell? If yes, tell who? I know in proverbs there is wisdom concerning talebearing
v3-4 No clear on the absolute meaning of these verses
We get more into this as we go along in the Torah.
CHAPTER 6
v20-21 This was the offering of Aaron and his sons - Is bread being referred to as meant here?
"In the normal grain offering, part of the grain went to the priests and they made bread from it for the priest and his family. But the grain offering associated with the anointing ceremony for the priests was not to be eaten, it was to be wholly burned before the LORD."
In vs.20 it says "when he is anointed," so I take it to mean that the bread is wholly burned in this instance.
CHAPTER 8
v2-36 Consecration of Aaron and his sons. Seems like the Bible is repeating many things. Did this take place before or after the golden calf incident? Or did it occur before and after the incident?
Aaron and his sons were consecrated after the golden calf incident.
Leviticus Ch. 11
The people are told what beasts they can and can't eat.
Animals that have split hoofs and chews the cud, they were allowed to eat.
Definition of cud is:
partly digested food returned from the first stomach of ruminants to the mouth for further chewing. Ruminants is a 4 chambered stomach.
But, they couldn't eat an animal that chewed the cud, but didn't have split hoofs. This includes the camel, coney (aka hyrax), and rabbit.
Animals that didn't chew the cud, but had split hoofs were also not to be eaten. They were not allowed to eat pigs.
They were not to be eaten and their carcass was not to be touched.
Fish that have scales and fins were allowed.
They were not allowed to eat fish without fins and scales.
vs. 13-19 We are given a list of all the winged creatures they they were not allowed to eat
vs. 20-23 We are told what insects they could and couldn't eat.
vs 24-28 They are given instructions on what to do if they touch the carcass of an unclean animal.
vs. 29-30 More critters listed that they weren't allowed to eat.
vs. 31-47 More detailed instructions given on what to do about unclean animals and the cleansing process. Plus, more instructions about unclean animals.
---
Ch. 12
If a woman gives birth to a boy, she shall be unclean for 7 days. The 8th day the child is to be circumcised. The woman goes through 33 days of purifying. During that time, she may not touch any hallowed thing or come into the sanctuary.
If she gives birth to a girl, she shall be unclean 14 days, and the days of her purifying will be 66 days.
After her days of purification, she shall make offerings and she shall be cleansed.
I watched an interesting sermon on this a few years ago. The preacher said that this is done for the woman's benefit. It takes more out of the woman to have a girl than it does a boy, thus the Lord gives her more time to recover. He gives her twice as much time to recover. These laws weren't against the woman, they were to help the woman.
---
Ch.13
Instruction for diagnosing and dealing with leprosy. Those who have leprosy must dwell outside the camp. Instructions are also given on how to properly deal with garments that are unclean with leprosy.
---
Ch.14
Instructions are given on what the priests must do after someone is cleansed of leprosy. Instructions are given concerning the offerings that are to be made, including instructions for the offerings if the person is poor.
Detailed instructions are given for the cleansing of a leprous house.
---
Ch.15
Instructions are given regarding discharges from the body :censored:
Whatever he touches is unclean.
Instructions are also given for women.
---
Ch.16
"God explains the proper way to come before Him. Aaron (or any other high priest) could not come into the Holy Place any time he pleased, but only at God’s invitation and at the appointed time and place. This was so important that God added the warning, lest he die."
Instructions are given about the offering the high priest is supposed to bring and instructions concerning the incense.
Atonement shall be made for the holy place. Instructions are given.
Instructions for annual atonement is given. This takes place on the 10th day of the 7th month. Atonement is to be made for the holy sanctuary, the tabernacle of the congregation, the alter, the priests, and for the people of the congregation.
---
Ch. 17
"In the pagan world at that time, it was customary to offer sacrifice wherever one pleased. Altars were often built on high hills, in forested areas, or at other special places.
With the building of the tabernacle, Israel had a centralized place of worship. Therefore, they were not allowed to offer sacrifice in any place or in any way they pleased. If they disobeyed, they would be cut off from among the people."
vs.7 The idea was that Israel was the covenant “wife” of God. When Israel worshipped, honored, and sacrificed to idols it was like committing adultery or even prostitution with those gods/demons they represented.
---
Ch.18
They were told not to approach a close relative and uncover their nakedness.
The nakedness of a woman is not to be uncovered, as well as her close relative.
The nakedness of woman on her monthly and the nakedness of the neighbor's wife are not to be uncovered.
They were not to offer their children as a sacrifice unto Molech (a Canaanite god).
Same sex sexual relations is an abomination.
Bestiality is an abomination.
Any who commit these abominations shall be cut off from his people.
---
Ch. 19
Keep the Sabbath and stay away from idols.
Meat of the peace offering may be eaten the same day and the next day, but it must be burned the 3rd day.
Do not gather the gleanings of your harvest, leave that for the poor and the stranger.
Various more laws are given...
Do not steal, deal falsely, or lie to one another.
Do not swear by the Lord's name falsely.
Do not cheat or rob your neighbor.
Do not curse the blind or be a stumbling block to them.
Judge righteously.
Do not be a talebearer (a gossip).
Do not hate your brother in your heart.
Do not take vengeance.
Love thy neighbor as thyself.
Do not sow your field with mixed seed.
The fabric of a garment shall not be of mixed linen.
Do not lie carnally with a concubine who is betrothed.
Do not eat of the fruit trees that are planted in the promised land for 3 years. In the 4th, the fruit belongs to the Lord. In the 5th year, they may eat it.
Do not eat anything with blood.
Do not shave around the sides of your head or disfigure your beard (that's what the pagans do).
Do not make cuts on your body for the dead, or tattoos (more things the pagans do).
Do not prostitute your daughter (a lot of this stuff is what the pagans do).
Keep the Sabbath.
Do not regard those with familiar spirits. Do not seek out wizards.
Honor elderly people.
Do not mistreat the stranger that sojourns in your land. Love the stranger as yourself.
Practice righteous judgement in measurement of length, weight, and volume.
---
Ch. 20
The people are again told not to sacrifice their children to Molech.
Those who go after wizards and those who have familiar spirits shall be cut off from the people.
Those that curse the father or mother shall be put to death.
The adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death.
Those having same sex sexual relations shall be put to death.
If a man marries a woman and her mother, it is wicked and they shall be burned.
Those committing bestiality shall be put to death.
If a man takes his sister and sees her nakedness, they shall be cut off from the people.
vs.18 probably means that a man and woman should not be doing the wild monkey dance during her monthly cycle.
Man shall not lay with his aunt or his sister-in-law, in so doing they shall die childless.
The Lord says they shall inherit the land and they shall keep His statutes and judgements.
A man or woman who has a familiar spirit or is a wizard shall be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones.
~~~~~~~~

Hoping for all the best in your day ahead!

Blessings.

LEVITICUS CHAPTER 11 NOTES

v1 God is speaking to Moses and Aaron

v3 God said the children of Israel can eat of beats that parteth the hoof + clovenfooted + chews cud. Animals that chew cud + parteth hoof + clovenfooted (most popular) are cows, sheep, goats, buffalo, bison, deer. Pigs are clovenfooted but do not chew cud

v4 God gives the example of not eating camel: even though it eats cud, it’s hoof is not divided, therefore making it an unclean animal to the children of Israel

v5 Coney is a Hyrax: it is found in Palestine, living in the caves and clefts of the rocks, and has been erroneously identified with the rabbit. It is an unclean animal to the children of Israel

v6 A Hare is an unclean animal to the children of Isreal

v7 Swine is a pig: it is an unclean animal to the children of Israel

v9-10 Animals that can be eaten by the children of Israel from the waters are animals that have fins and scales. Popular fish with scales and fin are salmon, sardines, tuna, cod, trout, red snapper, halibut, tilapia, mahi mahi, herring, and sea bass. Most popular fish without scales catfish and eel

v13-20 To eat these fowls are an abomination unto Israel: eagle, ossifrage (bearded vulture), ospray (Diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey), vulture, kite (and its kind, raven (and its kind), owl, night hawk, cuckow, hawk (and its kind), little owl, cormorant, great owl, swan, pelican, gier eagle, stork, heron (and its kind), lapwing, bat, and all fowls that creep on all four. That’s a lot of birds!

v22 Only insects that the children of Isreal can eat: locust (and its kind), bald locust (and its kind), beetle (and its kind), grasshopper (and its kind)

v27 Animals on all fours with paws are unclean animals. Examples of these animals are bears, dogs, cats, and rodents

v29-30 God points out that the weasel, mouse, and tortoise (and its kind), ferret, chameleon, lizard, snail, and the mole are unclean. This has me thinking that having pets that are unclean is likely not ideal in the eyes of God

v31-40 The importance of not touching dead things that are not clean

v41 “And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten.”

v42 “Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination.” Examples: snakes, crocodiles, alligators, snails, turtles, worms, and lizards

v44 “For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” - we have to a duty to keep ourselves holy

LEVITICUS CHAPTER 15 NOTES

v1 God is speaking to Moses and Aaron

v2 “Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean.” - This could be many instances of sickness

v3-32 Describes the law of running issues out of the flesh

v8 “And if he that hath the issue spit upon him that is clean; the he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.” - Staying is a serious matter in the eyes of God

v18 “The woman also with whom man shall lie with seed of copulation, they shall both bathe themselves in water, and be unclean until the even.” - Copulation meaning is sexual intercourse

v19 Should not touch a woman during mentation is how I interpreted this

v28 Seven days after a woman’s mentation, she is now clean, is how I interpreted this verse

v30 Not sure if interpretation of verse 28 is correct. Would it be that every woman would have to make a sacrifice monthly for the issue of menstruation? It could be so, since the blood purifying after giving birth is 33 (male) and 66 (female) days

LEVITICUS CHAPTER 17 NOTES

v1 God is speaking to Moses

v3-4 Not clear if the killing of an ox, lamb, goat must only be used for offerings or that you must do the offering to Lord at the tabernacle

v8-9 These verses answer the question about v3-4. It appears when killing those animals for offerings it must be done at the tabernacle

v10 Man should not eat blood

v11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood hat maketh an atonement for the soul.” - God states this as why the children of Israel should not eat blood

v13 “And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.” - When I read this, thought of Kosher meat

v15 God reminds not to eat beasts that have died. Only eat meat that were killed to be eaten
