Him breaking his leg 2 or 3 years ago probably stalled things for him.
The movie was a typical over the top action, but I thought he did a good job. Sometimes I like a more slower action movie, like Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) and sometimes I like a more over the top action. The reviews of Road House seem to be of people (usually men) that really liked it or really didn't like it. Interestingly, they usually mention McGregor. Some thought he was terrible and some were praising him. I don't know that he's ready for a more serious slower paced action, but I thought he worked out well for this type of action movie.
Concerning the movie as a whole, I wouldn't say it's in my top 10, but I definitely found it to be entertaining and would watch it again. As one reviewer said, "Road House has its flaws, but I had a great time watching it."
