[Gal 5:19-21 KJV] 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Notice that some of the commandments are also in that compilation. Adultery, idolatry, murder.

The deeds of the flesh are certainly not contained by the 10 words alone.

This precisely why Jesus converted the law into the realm of the inner heart (Matthew 5), the primary motivation. The sinful core of all of humanities sin.

Jesus said,

Matthew 5:21
You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not murder,’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be answerable to the court.’

Simple, literal law, the meaning is straightforward. Murder and you will be judged for it.

But Jesus then said,

Matthew 5:22
But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be answerable to the court.

Notice the act of murder (the commandment) is not the subject now, the inner attitude of the heart is judged.

Obviously, you are guilty of murder without even transgressing the literal commandment against murder.

A very powerful correction for anyone who thinks obeying the ten commandments, achieves something.

Your dead in your sin before the attempt can be made to honor the law.
In the same chapter (quoted above) Jesus also says:
[Mat 5:17 KJV] 17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[Mat 5:18-19 KJV] 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The word “remember” in the fourth commandment points back to creation week and the creator. In dealing with Israel’s idolatry this was stated :

Here is a little more about drunkenness:

[Pro 23:29-35 KJV] 29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, [when] it moveth itself aright. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. 33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. 34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. 35 They have stricken me, [shalt thou say, and] I was not sick; they have beaten me, [and] I felt [it] not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
Good passage on drunkenness.

"I will seek it yet again."

I have 45 years of living with alcoholics, not in every single year though.

Beyond any doubt, one of the most powerful and destructive addictions I have ever witnessed.

Most of them are so nice and friendly before they start drinking.

Once they start drinking their disposition changes and eventually they collapse in a stupor.

Tragic to watch every day of the week.

Near the end of their lives they have a drink as soon as they wake in the morning. A constant state of drunkenness.

You have missed what Jesus was talking about. Jesus was simply telling folk they were guilty before they transgressed the literal law.

Just as the literal transgression of the commandment against murder, was not the reason for the judgement.
It was the inner attitude of the heart towards another that resulted in the condemnation. Anger towards
your brother was the reason for your condemnation!

Anyone worked out how to stop the lust which condemns you, before you commit the transgression itself?

Same goes for the literal transgression of the Sabbath day. The innermost secrets of your heart will condemn you
before the literal transgression of the Sabbath commandment. That's why we cannot obey the law. All the law does
is notify you that you have been condemned. It shows you, your sinful intent, way before you actually transgress the
law.

Who can read the law and not feel condemned, that's all it does for me.

I don't read the law and sit back and think, I can obey that. Because I know I can't obey the law.

Please explain how you can transgress the law, sin, and not die?
The first death comes to almost all of us...
But the second death which is eternal will come to those that are guilty of sin. Sin = death.
We can stand guiltless before the judge by putting faith in Jesus and the life that Jesus lived.
By faith we can recieve the righteousness ( sinless, guilt free, perfect) blood of Jesus as our own.

By faith we can be just, or justified by faith. (Just as if we never sinned).

So I can transgress the law and not die because Jesus paid the price for me.
But Jesus said go and sin no more.
We should not continue in sin that grace might abound.
Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

Do you deny that not doing the good you know you should be doing is sin?

Why do you only quote 1 John 3:4?
Faith and works are connected and knowing that sin is what ever is not of faith and not doing good when you know better is connected to the law.

If you keep the law for any reason other then faith it is sin, and if you read the law you gain a knowledge of what is good.

Transgression of the law is sin
Faith takes this knowledge of the law and puts it into practice.

This is why God is Judge. He knows the motives and all the details around each choice we make.

Your pointing out what I believe

We are all guilty i agree, our works cant achieve salvation no matter how hard we try and we are all dead in sin without faith in Jesus.
BUT you are making a presumption which you need to understand.

I'm not honoring, or attempting to keep the law to be saved by it. I'm attempting to keep the law because Jesus kept the law perfectly and has given me forgiveness. The Lord loves me so much that He died for my sins. I don't want to continue to sin, and I want to reflect His character the best that I can. Though faith He can do His will in me.

So I don't obey the commandments to achieve salvation. I obey because of the salvation I have recieved by faith.

If I have rest in Jesus, does that mean I can continue to sin?

(ουχ αμαρτανε). Linear present (linear μενων, keeps on abiding) active indicative of αμαρτανω, "does not keep on sinning." For μενω (abide) see 1 John 2:6; John 15:4-10.

Whosoever sinneth (ο αμαρτανων). Present (linear) active articular participle like μενων above, "the one who keeps on sinning" (lives a life of sin, not mere occasional acts of sin as αμαρτησας, aorist active participle, would mean).

Hath not seen him (ουχ εωρακεν αυτον). Perfect active indicative of οραω. The habit of sin is proof that one has not the vision or the knowledge (εγνωκεν, perfect active also) of Christ. He means, of course, spiritual vision and spiritual knowledge, not the literal sense of οραω in John 1:18; John 20:29.

Not keeping the weekly sabbath day is not sin for the body of Christ. (Colossians 2:16-17) NT Believers are not Israelites under the old covenant of law. (Exodus 31:16-17; 35:1-3; Deuteronomy 5:15 etc..).

The fact that Peter appointed by GOD to be sent to preach to the gentiles (ACTS 15:7) is proof that the commandments were also preached to the gentiles and are not only for Israel;

Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Gentiles cannot transgress the Sabbath law because they never had the Sabbath law.

The issue of whether Gentiles were under the law was resolved 2000 years ago.

In the same chapter (quoted above) Jesus also says:
[Mat 5:17 KJV] 17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[Mat 5:18-19 KJV] 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The word “remember” in the fourth commandment points back to creation week and the creator. In dealing with Israel’s idolatry this was stated :

[Eze 20:12, 16, 18-20, 24 KJV] 12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I [am] the LORD that sanctify them. ... 16 Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols. ... 18 But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols: 19 I [am] the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; 20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] the LORD your God. ... 24 Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

The Sabbath is God’s remedy for idolatry, an affliction shared equally among Jews and Gentiles.
Read this line from your post again.

18 But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols...

The Sabbath was given to Israel (the children in the wilderness).

The Sabbath was never given to the Gentile nations.

Verse 13. - Verily. Rosenmuller suggests, "Nevertheless." But there is no need for any change. It is a sign. Hitherto circumcision had been the only visible "sign" that the Israelites were under a special covenant with God - his people, bound to him by special ties (Genesis 17:9-14; Acts 7:8). The adoption of circumcision by the Egyptians and other nations (Herod. 2:104) had produced the effect that this "sign" was no longer distinguishing. It might be still" a sign of profession "; but it had ceased to be "a mark of difference "; and some other mark was therefore needed. Such the observance of the sabbath by entire abstinence from servile work became. No other nation adopted it. It continued to Roman times the mark and badge of a Jew.(Juv. Sat. 6:159; 14:96). That ye may know, etc. By keeping the sabbath day as a day of holy rest the Israelites would know - i.e., would realise severally in their own per sons, that God was their sanctifier. Sanctification would be the fruit of their obedience. Exodus 31:13

My sabbaths ye shall keep: this precept is here repeated, either,

1. To show the chief use of the tabernacle, and all this cost and trouble about it, to wit, that they might there acceptably serve God, as in some measure upon every day, so especially upon the sabbath day. Or rather,

2. To restrain the time for the doing of the forementioned works: q.d. Though the work of the tabernacle and utensils be holy, and for a holy use, yet I will not have it done upon my holy day. The sabbath was not made for them, but they for it, and therefore they shall give place to it.

It is a sign between me and you. The sabbath is a fivefold sign:

1. Commemorative, of God’s creation of and dominion over them and all other things, to whom they do hereby profess their subjection.

2. Indicative, showing that they were made to be holy, and that their sanctification can be had from none but from God, as it here follows, and from the observation of God’s days and appointments.

3. Distinctive, whereby they owned themselves to be the Lord’s peculiar people, by a religious keeping of those sabbaths, which the rest of the world grossly neglected and profanely scoffed at.

The fact that Peter appointed by GOD to be sent to preach to the gentiles (ACTS 15:7) is proof that the commandments were also preached to the gentiles and are not only for Israel;

The sabbath is nothing more than a day off (which was unknown in an ancient society dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry). While it is a written commandment, Jesus clearly stated that acts of compassion or need show that it is not a strict legal requirement.

IMHO too much has been made of strictly keeping the Sabbath. Luke 14:5, "Then he [Jesus] said to them, “If one of you has a child or an ox that has fallen into a well, will you not immediately pull it out on a Sabbath day?”

As usual I have to correct you who claim to know scripture but do not;


Act 15:7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

Certainly Peter was teaching what Jesus was teaching them for 3 years! repentance, the kingdom of heaven and the commandments.


Paul was preaching something else.

Acts 15:6-11, "The apostles and the elders met together to consider this matter. After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “My brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that I should be the one through whom the gentiles would hear the message of the good news and become believers. And God, who knows the human heart, testified to them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us, and in cleansing their hearts by faith he has made no distinction between them and us. Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear? On the contrary, we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.”

Clearly, Gentiles are not required to keep the OT law. There were a few rules to follow, but that is entirely different than keeping all the law.
