Never.

Jesus would not, and did not, ingest alcohol.

Jesus is all about purity of body and soul. There is nothing at all pure about alcohol. It is toxic to the human body. It is poison. It is great as an antiseptic, sure. It kills microorganisms and bacteria that it comes into contact with.

Good for human ingestion? Not so much. Take a good look at the fermentation process and think again if it makes any sense at all that Jesus would make, or serve, alcohol to anyone.

Alcohol is literally the feces of the yeast microorganism. The yeast consumes the sugar of fruits/vegetables and excretes alcohol. It also flatulates carbon dioxide so the carbonation, all the little bubbles in wine, is the gas that exits the yeast's rectum.

Does this sound like a holy and pure substance that Christ would enjoy or give to many people to ingest after they had all "well drunken"?

The fact is that wine in the Bible is referred to by a single English word when the original language used multiple words to refer to what we call wine and also what we call grape juice (unfermented).

Jesus never drank alcohol and what He actually made was pure, fresh grape juice from water - as much of a miracle as creating alcohol, if not more so.

Contrary to popular belief, the Bible speaks negatively of ingesting alcohol in many places.

George Cruikshank's painting "The Worship of Bacchus" was a very well known and sought after work in its day. It depicts how society uses alcohol and is destroyed by it. Bacchus is the ancient Greek god of wine and intoxication.

Here is a great link about the painting and what it was all about:

Jesus turned water into wine. It was obviously alcoholic. That is the only way to make sense of the Banquet master's comment. It is in black and white. The cheap wine is brought out when the guests are too drunk to notice. There is no prohibition on drinking alcohol in the Bible. For sure drinking to excess is foolish. And yes, there are a number of warnings in God's word. It's pretty simple. If you can't control it, don't drink.

Yeast is used to make bread. I suppose bread is evil also. If I went by your understanding, I'd starve to death.

You could always eat unleavened bread and drink grape juice.

And... here we go again.
Yup. At Cana, when the wine ran out, Jesus supposedly made "Grape Juice" for 'em!!!

The party governor's words were related to the custom of serving the BEST WINE to begin with, and the poorer quality stuff coming out when the guests have become drunk, and are less critical. He questioned why the BEST WINE was being brought out late in the proceedings.

That Jesus made GRAPE JUICE in Cana, is a ridiculous conclusion, but that's "Denominational Theology" for you.

One of the reasons that the "Assemblies of God" Denomination rejected God's "Charismatic Outpouring" back in the '70s was their "Lack of "Clothesline Holiness". Why!!! - "Those people" let their women cut their hair, and wear makeup!! and they consumed alcoholic beverages!!!. EVEN WORSE, their women wore slacks instead of dresses, and their men wore short sleeved shirts IN PUBLIC!!!!

It turns out that "Welch's Grape juice" was originally produced as a communion drink, in deference to people who were recovering alcoholics, and would be adversely effected by consuming Alcoholic Wine, even in small quantities.

The two-tiered design of the Protestant Communion tray is for the purpose of separating the grape juice, from the fermented wine, in denominations (like the Episcopalians) where actual WINE is served for communion - preferably RED wine to be more suggestive of Jesus' Blood.

The Bible NEVER says that alcoholic consumption is SIN, but DOES give guidelines about it's use - and WARNS AGAINST the drunkenness, and the accompanying negative effects on a person's wisdom/judgement that occurs: Pro 31:6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

I have ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM with Jesus consuming fermented WINE with his meals. It was almost certainly a much SAFER drink than what the local water supplies provided.

Personally, I like a good German White wine (Gewurtztraminer) that we had with thanksgiving dinner this year. I don't do "Hard stuff" for medical reasons, and I don't like the taste of it anyway, with exception of German "Grog" (a couple of jiggers of dark Rum, several teaspoons of sugar, and hot water in a coffe cup). Licious!! Can't do it any more though, since my drugs don't play nice with alcohcol.

My mother, and her sister (both born again Baptists) were members of the WCTU and were tee-totallers. My uncle Joe Carabbio worked at the liquor division of the Massachusetts Pure Food and Drug Commission, and he brought "samples" to Dad (a Christmas and Easter Catholic), who kept 'em in the garage. I think Mom knew about it, but didn't make an issue of it.

I could. I could also care less. I have real wine for communion and real bread for lunches. I don't get drunk. It was tremendous freedom for me when I could have a glass of wine and leave it at that. My parents died alcoholics, even though they'd been sober for the last 20 years of their lives. Lord Jesus set me free completely. I very rarely imbibe these days. I would not presume to tell other people what to do.

Jesus is/was most certainly NOT a Jew and that was very irreverent.

Nobody stays sober by drinking alcohol.

And nobody drinks alcohol to stay sober.

Jesus never touched it in His life.
Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine. Alcoholic wine. As a former alcoholic, I know the dangers of drinking to excess. I'm sure Jesus did also. Jesus not a Jew? Where do you get that from?

John 4:22 "You [Samaritans] do not know what you worship; we [Jews] do know what we worship, for salvation is from the Jews." Amplified

I was being facetious. We have great freedom in Christ to enjoy the things God has made. If He has allowed something for you, enjoy it to it's fullest as unto the Lord. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.

The Temperance movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s was all about avoiding alcohol all together. It was widely held as a "demon drink" and well known to destroy families and entire societies.

Cruikshank's 1860 painting was very popular in its day, but it is almost impossible to find anywhere now and not spoken of at all.

The powerful alcohol lobbies have all but buried it in obscurity.
Prohibition in America did far more damage than the legal alcohol industry. The temperance movement meant well, but the end result was a disaster.

I always appreciate your contributions. I wish I could say the same for all who post here. I don't always detect people's humour in their posts and I have been known to be misunderstood as well. That's the problem with the keyboard, you don't get the tone to go with the words.

Alcohol does and if you'd like to argue that point, you will destroy your credibility here and make yourself look very foolish.
Stand in line. many have tried to destroy my creditability. Thank God its in HIS word AS i HAVE POSTED THEM. They are not my words but Bible :).

Same is true for me and I appreciate the kind words.
When I was first saved, there was no greater Pharisee. It hindered my ability to share the salvation that was wrought in me. I was telling others how great grace was and promoting the law at the same time. You can imagine the responses.

A Judean.

NOT what we know today as a Jew.

What we know of today as a Jew Jesus publicly humiliated over and over every chance He got.

He hated those people and those people hated Him and the Bible is very clear on that.

Who murdered Jesus, CS1?
Lol your funny. I want to give you a Little biblical History about Judah and Israel One is the Southern territory (Judah) the other is the Northern Territory (Israel) they were divided by Rehoboam after Solomon As prophesied by Ahijah (1 Kings 11:31-35) FYI they are all Jews. Jesus was a Jew from the Tribe of Judah. I never said Jesus was a Jew like today, but he came from the Location and known as Israel. No one Murdered Jesus. Unless you mean your's and my sin.

Jesus said "No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”

Braweh what kind of bible are you reading, you are not on the same page as the rest of us, Jesus was not a jew? do you have something against Jews?
The rest of us?

Seriously?

There are one or two of you here using multiple screen names.

That makes you a very tiny majority.

Jesus had something against Jews as I have pointed out the Scriptures that make that very clear.

I preach and teach exactly what is in the Bible.

Are you sure that you, and your other screen names, even own a Bible?

AND JUST WHEN YOU KNOW it can't get any more totally RIDICULOUS!!!!
What's ridiculous, Bob, is that you were no more around when Jesus walked the earth than I was.

Yet you make comments as if I were arguing that the sky is never blue and the grass is anything but green.

I present what is made plain by Scripture, Bob.

And by loads of historical data to boot.

Your loyalty is to the individual / church / religious organization who indoctrinated you
Not everybody has the same upbringing as you, Adstar.

I learned every single thing I know about life, and the Bible, from first-hand experience and from my own study and research, guided by the Holy Spirit.

Ever read this verse before?

Yep, as a kid I grew up in a mid-sized town that was full of baptists who claimed to not drink or support drinking... but late at night they liked to drink the booze.

They say the difference between a catholic and a baptist is... at least the catholic says hi to others while shopping at the liquor store!

That and they say baptists never make love standing up... it might lead to dancing!
Right you are.

Who teaches you these things Braweh? what you say about Jesus is not part of any scripture and is false. it is easy to prove but you do not want to listen or will you? It is O.K to be wrong about something it happens to me often but I correct my mistakes it's no big deal. To cling to a false belief is a is deal however.
My mistake was in being made to believe Christ was a Jew to begin with, and all the utter lies that go right along with that total nonsense.

The Bible proves it from beginning to end.

I've corrected my mistakes.
