I remember when I met the man who later became my husband. We looked for and took every opportunity to see each other and hang out...even if we were tired or the schedule was weird. True interest and love will cause people to sacrifice to be together.
When people here say it was your fault, I think they're saying you gave up too easily in pursuing and wooing. You can't blame God for not bringing someone to you when you refused to make an effort, even if it was difficult.

I'm not saying works aren't attended to by Christians. But notice...they weren't aware of their works. The works that count are those that are prepared for us as a result of being Christ's workmanship...Ephesians 2:10. That is, as we live, but not us, Christ living in and through us. This is what it means to walk according to the Spirit or being led of the Spirit.
Whatever we do in our own strength has a measure of sin in it. According to Isaiah 64:6, our righteousness is as filthy rags. But when we are moved by the Spirit, who cannot sin, we walk in righteousness. We also do not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
There is a life of God hidden in Christ which I'm not sure you have experienced to much degree. I am suggesting to you that there is much more to a relationship with God than you have yet to know. And I'm suggesting that even if you are troubled by such a thought, to ask God to increase the intimacy of your relationship with Him.

The one who moved away I understand. The other one...the one you said didn't work out because you worked weekends? That's the one I'm talking about. If you had been truly interested you would have done more to pursue. The fact that you felt relief a year later because she changed her hair style is a whole other issue. I'm just saying, thats why people have said it's "your fault"...you've gotten an answer, even if it isn't a pleasant one.
