You've gone down a false rabbit trail. While God wants all Christians to speak in tongues (1 Cor 14:5), and I believe it's clear that all Christians have the ability to speak in tongues, the command is to not forbid speaking in tongues. For various reasons, many (most?) Christians do not speak in tongues. It does not mean they are not saved.
Except that in the FIRST INSTANCE, tongues were a variety of KNOWN LANGUAGES which communicated directly to the people there present.
There's more than ONE verse in my Bible, after all, and probably also in yours. Don't make your "God box" too tight according to your private interpretation.

You aren't even looking at why God would make this a Command.

We know the benefits of Speaking in Tongues. God does not want us to be without those benefits like being Edified.

What was communicated? What was communicated was what tongues is: prayer & praise to God, speaking the wonderful works of God, magnifying God, and giving thanks well. I believe that the fact that the languages the apostles were given to speak on the day of Pentecost were understood by others present was a special one-time occurrence that God did to underscore the significance of what happened. That almost never happens, which is why Paul instructs that when tongues are spoken in public, they must be interpreted.

From what I know is 3000 people or so repented at the day of Pentecost in acts 2
So I can't see any other reason than the gift of tounges making people repent, through hearing the strength of the lord.
The unbelievers repent because the strength of the spirit causes them to fear the lord.
Which feals like Gods judgment upon people for rejecting the Messiah.
I believe when we have problems, which we all do, if you go to God with the problems and allow the Holy Spirit to give you utterance, you will speak the mystery that unlocks the answer.
The Holy Spirit searches you and knows what you need and then gives you a way to Speak Mysteries so God can provide.
The entire step is God doing it all from finding your problems to helping you speaking the mystery only God understands.
Incredible, God does it all and we just have to believe and obey the Holy Spirit.

Hearing the apostles speak in tongues no doubt did make an impression on them, but there was also Peter's sermon.

Edification and Utterance to Speak Mysteries is why.
It's a tool used by God.
It benefits the one doing and those hearing.
People who are not born again cannot speak in tongues. People who are born again can speak in tongues (whether they know it or not).
Unknown tongues just means tongue unknown to the speaker, not unknown to God who knows all tongues.

If you have been given the gift it is for you to use to pray to God, but obviously when you are first given it there maybe other people around you who can interpret (as on the day of pentecost) but it may even happen that you are given the gift when theres nobody else around except God to hear
I would suggest you keep praying in your tongue in your closet alone with God. I think it has become a bit fashionable for christians to pray openly in public to seem pious, or in large groups.
Yes its important to learn and teach prayer, but often prayer then becomes a thing to show off in front of others. Long prayers can be the worst lol
Note on the book of acts when disciples went round they didnt all go and pray loudly to show off they were praying ..they prophesied, laid hands on people and healed them

Tongues is not a gift that some Christians have while others do not. God says (through Paul) that He wants all Christians to speak in tongues. All Christians (people born again of the Holy Spirit) have the ability to speak in tongues, whether they know it or not.
There was no interpretation on the day of Pentecost. The languages the apostles were given to speak were the languages of the other people present. There was no interpretation needed.
A Christian can speak in tongues at will, any time he chooses to do so.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with praying aloud in a group of people. But if a person is going to speak in tongues aloud in a group, he must interpret.

I would say ot has mothing to do with speaking in tongues, if you read the text.
Why did Paul write what he did in 1 Cor 14? Why did he say he would rather speak five words with his understanding so he could teach people than 10,000 words in a tongue? Why did he say that speaking in tongues in public without interpreting is like speaking into the air?
The Bible says that when a person speaks in tongues in public, they must interpret. Why?
