How do you deal with Acts 2:39 as it relates to Romans 8:30?

This question has not been answered by any of you in 338 posts!
What do you mean by deal with it? I already previously discussed these two verses with you. Do you believe that Acts 2:39 is in regards to the effectual call, as in Romans 8:30, or the general call, as in Matthew 22:14? What is your "gotcha" point in which you feel nobody has answered your question?

I'll add one more: Mark 1:4.
In regards to John's baptism, in Mark 1:4, was this baptism of repentance for "in order to obtain" the forgiveness of sins or was it for "in regards to/on the basis of" the forgiveness of sins received upon repentance? Also, in Matthew 3:11, we read - I baptize you with water "for" repentance.. *Was this baptism for "in order to obtain" repentance? OR was this baptism for "in regards to/on the basis of" repentance? Getting water baptized in order to obtain repentance makes no sense at all. Repentance precedes water baptism.

Your argument is that baptism is a work and therefore does not save.
I challenge you to show me just 1 verse in the Bible that states, "whoever is NOT water baptized will be condemned." In John 3:18, who did Jesus say would be condemned? Those who are not baptized or those who do not believe in Him?

My argument is that baptism in Jesus' Name does save and therefore it is not a work.
How is it not a work? So baptism is just a "nothing" and no work at all gets accomplished when one is water baptized? Completely illogical and ridiculous. You are forced to believe that baptism is not a work in order to hide from the truth.

Have you taken your scissors and cut Acts 2:38-39 out of your Bible yet?
I have not cut two of your pet verses out of my Bible. Go back and read post #4.

Because that passage clearly teaches that baptism saves.
Not the removal of dirt from the flesh "but an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ."

You really should do to your Bible physically what you have done to it in your heart.

Just remember what it says in Revelation 22:18-19.
Straw man argument. You are beginning to sound like a troll.

ANSWER TO THE DEFINITION OF FAITH, HOPE, AND WORKS

What is Hope? We get hope when we receive knowledge and trust that this knowledge is true.

How is Faith like hope and how is faith different that hope? Like hope, faith has trust in the knowledge that we have received whether that knowledge is true or false. Faith is different than hope. This is described in James 2:14-16, there are three levels of faith:

1. A dead faith - It has no works.

2. A unperfected faith - It will obey God when God so commands us to do so The example given is Abraham in Genesis 15 and Abramam's faith was reckoned unto Abraham as righteousness. God knew that Abraham would obey Him.

3. A perfected faith - It is a faith that has trusted in God and obeys God like Abraham obeyed God and went to sacrifice Isaac when God commanded him to do so.

Also, faith CAN be seen, and hope CANNOT be seen.

Matthew_9:2 And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven."

Mark 2:5 And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."

This also brings us to the fact that there are two different types of works:

Works of faith - 1Thessalonians 1:3 constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of LOVE and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father,

2Thessalonians 1:11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power,

An example of how our faith in God works is found in Colossians 2:12:

Colossians 2:12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

Also, in the conversions in the Book of Acts, faith is NEVER in the Active Voice (something you do). We do not baptize ourselves. Someone else always baptizes us. They are doing the work.

Thank you for listening.

God bless you,
Wayne

P.S. If baptism is not for for the forgiveness of sins and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, could you give the scriptural references that give a reason for being baptized?
the defenition of faith is an assurance, a trust. it is placed in self. things we do or someone else

The defenition of hope is the hope of eternal life. which God, who can not lie, promised before time began.. It is what our faith is in.

The defenition of love is Jesus death on the cross. No greater love has anyone.

If we could save ourselves by doing a work.. then Chjrist died in vein

as for why baptised in water?
A confession of your faith. that is what our church uses it for. thats also how I see it in the NT. People give their testimony. then the people they have at the baptism, see a picture of what God does to us the moment we are saved. as God baptizes us into the death, burial and body of Christ.

In the OT, blood had to be shed to forgive sin, yet the author of Hebrews tells us blood never forgave sin.

Why do you or anyone else think water can do what blood could never do?

as for acts 2. I suggest you study the greek. it does not say what you think it does..

It was false doctrine, not blasphemy.

Blasphemy is to either claim to be God when you are not God, or to specifically speak against God
attributing the work of God to any other person is blasphemy

the jews attributed the work of God to men in physical circumcision. when it is God who gives us the circumcision made without hands (col 2)

its no different than today saying it is the physical water baptism of man who replaces the spiritual baptism of God in the washing of our sins by the blood of Christ..

"Have you heard of Jesus' death on the cross? for us? His sinless blood shed as the Lamb of God?"
This does not answer the question, it is but a generality. Again, at what point do we receive the remission of sins?
Acts 10:43
To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

That is laughable.

Salvation is absolutely promised to those who repent and receive baptism in Jesus' Name.

You are effectively preaching that God does not keep His promises.
If you think you will be saved because a sinner immerses you in water. You are mistaken.

What is laughable is you replacing the baptism of the spirit with the baptism of man..

Your no different than a jew who teaches physical circumcision. both are false gospels and blasphemous.

Not necessarily.

He mentioned it in John 3:3-5.
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born [a]again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

yep.. I do not see the word baptism at all.

nice try try again

Why do you think that He has to keep repeating Himself in order to make His point?

Don't you know that He Himself spoke against the practice of vain repetitions in Matthew 6?
why do you think he said as moses lifted the serpent? why did he mention this? where people who were dead had to LOOK UP at the serpent to live. and why would people look up? because they trusted God, No water.. no baptism.. just faith'

why did Jesus then say he must be lifted up. that whoever has faith and looks up to him, will not die either.. in fact they will live forever (born again)

he who believes is not condemned, he who does not believe is condemned already

not one word of water or baptism/

Your seeing immersion where there is non..

If you are trusting in a promise and doing what it takes to fulfill the condition of the promise, then it is "faith in the operation of God" that makes you risen with Christ (Colossians 2:12).
I trust the promise

whoever calls on the name of the lord will be saved

Whoever becomes bankrupt in spirit will enter the kingdom of God

Whoever believes is not condemned

its because of the work of Christ. not the work of man.

See again, post #280.

And i say again, also, that baptism is not a work; because in receiving the ordinance a person can in fact receive salvation (Acts 2:38-39).
dude, 280 does not answer the question

water baptism is a work, just like physical circumcision was a work. just like churhc membership and giving and praying and all the things we do are works.

Works bear fruit.. not salvation. Salvation is a gift.. You do not work for a gift.. Study romans 4

Hi Grace,

Good morning!

There are two types of works that the Bible mentions. One is a work of righteousness where you are earning your salvation. The second type is a work of faith. Here are the scriptures that refer to both of these works.

WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of works which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Romans 4:1-5 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." 4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. 5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,

WORKS OF FAITH

1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers; 3 constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of LOVE and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father,

2 Thessalonians 1:11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power,

Grace, if I may, I would like to ask you these questions:
1. According to James 2:14-26 what is the Biblical definition of someone getting a perfected faith.
2. What are the three levels of faith?

God bless you, Grace.

Hi Grace,

I appreciate your taking the time to give me an answer to my questions concerning faith. Could you put, though, your thoughts concerning what the scriptures say, not in your own words, but simply quote the scriptures that affirm what you think. Here is why.

Deuteronomy 4:2 "You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your GodP which I command you.

Proverbs 30:6 Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

2 Corinthians 4:2 but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

Psalms 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.

2 Peter 1:3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Grace, when we put into our own words what we think the world of God means, we can be doing any of the things written in orange above. But if we simply quote a verse that God has given us, we will not be in danger of misquoting the meaning that God has given in his scriptures. Having said this, could you give me the scriptures for the reason that the Bible gives for baptizing a person.

God bless you and thank you for taking your time with me.

"Have you heard of Jesus' death on the cross? for us? His sinless blood shed as the Lamb of God?"
This does not answer the question, it is but a generality. Again, at what point do we receive the remission of sins?
Oh it does answer. Frankly, you are not saved if you think water saved you.

To say that the shed blood of Jesus is a generality is beyond belief and indicative of a person who both lacks respect and any sort of actual knowledge of salvation.

If you actually believe water has saved you, as you seem to indicate, you are not saved.

“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” (Leviticus 17:11)

“Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. “ (Romans 5:9)

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7)

“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” (Ephesians 2:13)

“Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
“ (Romans 5:9)

“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (1 Peter 1:18-19)

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (I John 1:7)

“…and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood and has made us kings[ and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Revelation 1:5)

From the old to the new testament, the answer to salvation is found only in blood.

You have obviously not yet understood that you have no forgiveness of sin unless you accept God's solution to your sin problem and that, is the blood of Christ shed on your behalf.

Now if you continue to say you are saved by water, you are deliberately and willfully CHOOSING to deny what scripture plainly and mercifully teaches us. That would indicate that somewhere along the line you may have been been exposed to the truth, refused it and your heart has been hardened.

I do not particularly care if you so choose, but the thing that is evil that you and others do regarding the blood of Christ, ignoring scripture and in your pride substituting your own works as salvation, is leading new Christians into a cult that does not save and never will.

I do not consider water baptism a work, but rather obedience to what scripture indicates we should do....Jesus Himself was baptized in water. However, you insult the finished work of Christ on the cross...He said 'IT IS FINISHED'....with your lies concerning water regeneration. This, is not found in scripture.

I have no expectations that you will admit your error and concede to the false belief that water saves anyone. As you and others seem to be so fond of saying, 'your argument is not with me; it is with God.'

But he may have been baptized before he went to his own cross.

Sometimes the effect of baptism (walking in newness of life) does not happen until later in the person's life.
It would not have mattered if he had been baptized, because Jesus had not yet died and risen from the dead. Baptism as an ordinance for believers had therefore not yet been instituted.

The nonsensical argument to continue to insist that the thief might/maybe/perhaps/supposedly/possibly/conceivably/mayhap
/peradventure/ and so on and so forth, have been baptized ignores the difference between the baptism of John and that which a believer undergoes.

This actually shows a lack of understanding and or desperation to cling to a nonbiblical view of baptism as a vehicle for salvation.

This is grade school stuff. But somehow, it goes right over your head.
