The idea that all should speak in tongues is ridiculous. Those who say otherwise are perpetuating a lie plain and simple. There are things I'm unsure of, but on this I'm 100% sure of what I say. It's truly unfortunate that so may have been led astray by it.

I don't care how accepted and popular a denomination becomes, that doesn't mean everything they say is true. Numbers ≠ truth.

Of course believers walk by the power of God. The gifts ceasing doesn't negate any of God's power... In fact it gives God the credit for any miracles.. because God doesn't need to use the sign and ministry gifts thru us any longer.

He has put those tools down and now we can live by faith in Christ.. by His power with His scripture as our road code.

Plus.. an interpretation of scripture is what allows us to understand God. Without it, we would be forever subjective and undiscerning.

Scripture interprets itself..and is the guide for how we are to walk.

I don't think you are actually saying not to interpret scripture. And do it rightly.. but the power of God does not contradict scripture.
An interpretation and there are many interpretations, is how you read and understand the scripture.

Every type of interpretation will place an emphasis on certain verses, and ideas that occur in the New Testament.

For example, one interpretation places the emphasis on baptism and the church will be named after it. A Baptist church.

Another interpretation will place the emphasis on who makes the big decisions in the church. The minister or the congregation?
The church will inherit it's name from that interpretation. A Congregational church.

I can go on and on, regarding the interpretations, the denominations just in the Protestant fold.

I doubt, whether a church exists that allows scripture to interpret scripture. Otherwise, we would not have a thousand different Protestant churches. A bit of exaggeration but you know what I am talking about, don't you?

May I ask if the following gifts have become redundant. Just post the numbers in your reply so I can understand your interpretation of the New Testament.

1) The gift of salvation
2) The gift of righteousness
3) The gift of faith (Romans 12:3)
4) The gift of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, love, faith, kindness, gentleness, etc
5) The gift of the ministries, teaching, knowledge, wisdom, helps, etc

Finally, where in the New Testament does it state the gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit. Have been made redundant?
Please use only scripture to interpret scripture. That way, you will display your integrity in what you preach.

Not every one speaks in tongues, fact.

Nor is everyone given the gift of evangelism. Add to that, not every one has the gift of wisdom or knowledge.

The gift that seems to be the most obvious gift that has passed. Is the gift of reading the scripture and understanding it. That is one gift that no one has, no agreement whatsoever in any Christian forum.

When Jesus said...suffer the little children. .I started disciplining my kids. Every time I read that verse I start looking for my belt.

The problem with letting scripture interpret scripture is that you have to know so much scripture.

So all who are born again should seek to speak in tongues?
I believe we should seek the greater gifts. But above all, we amplify love above everything else. Love is a gift and has been poured into our hearts. That's the real law that God has written on our hearts.

God is love. There is no other way to understand Jesus.

Wait. I'll have someone read your post to me. I gouged out my eyes.
Are we the only one's that have obeyed what Jesus told us to do?

Two obedient Christians, probably the only two saved Christians on the day of Christ's return.

The only two Christians that actually applied a fully literal interpretation, of the scripture to our own lives.

Blessed brother, Jesus will restore your eye sight upstairs.

Amen brother. But I must say, I thought there would be more.

I have a friend who has the gift of tongues. She has prayed over me in tongues. I don't really know what to think of it, because it does sound like babble. She doesn't know what she's saying usually.

And why is that a problem? Christians should search the Scriptures daily. But without rightly dividing or interpreting Scripture, it will only lead to confusion. There are some who make a mishmash of various Scriptures, then wonder why nothing makes sense.

Smile...it was meant to be humorous.

Can I just say, about this thread, now, just one thing, and that is: "OH, DEAR"!!

What a shame, that we Christians are arguing so vehemently about this!
,
Otherwise, as the British, in the old days, would say: "TALLY-HO, OLD CHAP: AND CARRY ON!!!"

Not "have been made" but "will be made". Paul was looking beyond the completion of the Bible. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. (1 Cor 13:8)

The "knowledge" could not be ordinary knowledge but supernatural knowledge -- divine revelation. When the Bible was completed these three gifts ceased. They were "done away with". One would think Christians would be happy with the fact that they have a complete and sufficient Bible. But that is not the case. Some are always hankering for "new" revelations.

I'm sorry that you don't believe God talks to you.

So all who are born again should seek to speak in tongues?
All that are born again should seek the MINISTRY that the Holy Spirit has for them. "Tongues" are nothing more than the tip of the iceberg. Hearing from God, and being obedient to HIS LEADING it what's important. You're to TAKE HIS YOKE UPON YOU, and Learn of Him. Since "tongues" flows from the Holy Spirit into your mind so you can speak them it's, if nothing else a "training session to get you used to hearing and doing what HE has for you to do. I speak in tongues - have for 50 years now, but it's INTERPRETATION that has been manifested in public, and it, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Prophesy, and tongues all operate the same - you say what the Holy Spirit GIVES YOU to say. you don't ADD to it, and you don't "Edit" it. It's FROM HIM to use in ministry of HIS word. That alone should be a strong reason to seek what He has for you.

Right. "Babbling" would fit. No one was babbling in the NT. Indeed the words glossais and dialektos mean languages -- actual human languages as listed in Acts 2. Had the KJV translators consistently used "languages" as the correct translation a lot of confusion could have been avoided.

Also Paul asked the rhetorical question "Do all speak in "tongues?" [languages spoken supernaturally]. Of course, the answer is "No. All do not speak in tongues". So to insist that all born again believers should be speaking in tongues is total nonsense.
And obviously YOUR PREFERENCE would be that NOBODY in 2023 would even bother with it.

I BET that 1 Cor 13 forms the basis for that belief - i.e. what you have been trained to believe what "That perfect" is.
