I’m assuming he was saving the captives. The righteous who had died before him that were in Abraham’s bosom. Also I read a verse that says he may have gone to Hades to proclaim to the spirits that rejected his name in the days of Noah. Anyone have any insight on this?
The Lord Jesus Christ “gave up the ghost,” was laid in the sepulchre,
rose from the dead on the third day,
took his blood,
now placed on the mercy seat
in the Holy place,
in the tabernacle in heaven
(Hebrews 9:11, 12 KJV)
He then went to Hades/Hell,
where there was a “great gulf fixed,”
with paradise (Abrahams bosom) on one side,
and the place of torment on the other side,
To lead “captivity captive,” “
spirits of just men made perfect,”
1 Corinthians 15:6 KJV
After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
Luke 16:26 KJV
…so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot;…..
Ephesians 4:8-10 KJV
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high,
he led captivity captive,…
[9] (… he ascended, …. he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? [10] …..that he might fill all things.)
Hebrews 12:22 KJV
But
ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
To
the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the
spirits of just men made perfect,
