All sins past, present and future....not just past.

And propitiation isn't exactly correct either....the Sacrifice squarely meets the fury of Holiness...no overspill....not overdone. God is perfectly efficient in His Omnipotence.

He's talking about sins committed in past times BEFORE Jesus' death, burial and resurrection.

NOT, for the individual person. Important distinction.

David committed the sins of premeditated murder and adultery. Under the
terms and conditions of the covenant that Moses' people agreed upon with
God in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy; those are
unpardonable, viz: there are no atonements in the Levitical catalogue for
those kinds of violations.

Num 15:30-31 . . But the person, be he citizen or stranger, who acts
defiantly reviles the Lord; that person shall be cut off from among his
people. Because he has spurned the word of The Lord and violated His
commandment, that person shall be cut off— he bears his guilt.

Addressing Jews in the New Testament; the writer said:

Heb 10:26-28 . . If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received
the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful
expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of
God.

Yet God put away David's unpardonable sins; and the only possible way He
could do it without obstructing justice was to lay those sins on Christ.

Isa 53:6 . . All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one
to his own way; and The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

That passage was addressed to Jews too. They have a safety net but I
suspect quite a few either don't know it or they simply don't want it; which
is tragic beyond words.

Deut 27:26 . . Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of this
law by carrying them out.

* Christ's crucifixion trumps the covenant's curse because it has always
trumped it. (1Pet 1:20, Rev 13:8)

Sins can only be forgiven with repentance - this presumption that Jesus 'Lamb' died for the sins is contrary to Jesus teachings and only appears in Johns Gospel - long time after and arguably corrupted.
Matthew 9:13 - 13 But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

What is your understanding of Matthew 1:21...and He shall save His people from their sins?

He will bring the people back to the law to save them from sin - Matt 5:18 not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Law produces the knowledge of sin. By works of the law shall no flesh be justified..Romans 3:20. Jesus saves.

Present sins forgiven.
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Which proves law must exist for the believer, as all have knowledge of sin
The law is good. The flesh is weak. But salvation doesn't come by the law. It comes through Christ who actually did keep the law...His righteousness, not our own.

Matthew 9:13 . . But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not
sacrifice

There are actually well-meaning folks at large sincerely believing that quote
from Hos 6:6 repeals the entire God-given book of Leviticus: yet Jesus said:

Matt 5:17-19 . . Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the
truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least
stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything
is accomplished.

. . . Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and
teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven,
but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in
the kingdom of heaven.

Hos 6:6, in its context with Hos 6:4-10, condemns Ephraim for cruelty and
thinking they could make up for it with atonements. No; the rituals, the
sacrifices, and the holy days of obligation etc. were never intended as
substitutes for good conduct. (cf. Isa 1:10-20)

* I can't help but wonder sometimes how many people come to church on
Easter Sunday thinking that will make up for a whole year living like the world.

Correct, now, Under God's Grace, It Is:

Eph 1:7 "In Whom we Have Redemption Through His BLOOD,
The Forgiveness of sins, according to The Riches of His Grace"
ALL sins?: What Saith The Confirming Scriptures?:
Col 1:12-14 "Giving thanks unto the Father, Which Hath Made us
meet [ worthy ] to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in
light: Who Hath Delivered us from the power of darkness, and Hath
Translated us into the kingdom of His Dear SON: In Whom we Have
Redemption Through His BLOOD, even The Forgiveness of sins"

Is it a partial 'past sins only' (UNfinished work) redemption for individuals? or:

The FULL (Finished Work Of The Cross) Redemption?:

Col 2:13 "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision
of your flesh, hath He Quickened together with Him, Having
Forgiven you ALL trespasses"
Grace, Peace, And JOY In Christ, And In His Word Of Truth, Rightly
Divided
(+ I and II)!
+
RICH Blessings!

Why did Jesus die "for our sins" then according to the Bible? Why ever institute animal sacrifices? Just repent and you good to go

.

Not long after I became a believer, that passage began to haunt me as I was
led to believe that my peril as a sinner was over; based upon the passage
below.

John 5:24 . . I tell you the truth: whoever hears my word, and believes
Him who sent me, has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has
crossed over from death to life.

It was later explained to me that prior to conversion, my sins were legal
matters but afterwards they became family matters; which is quite an
advantage; for example:

When my brother and I were kids back in the decade of the 1950s, my dad
had an old Hudson automobile that he parked in the yard and seldom drove.
I'm not even sure it actually ran. Anyway, one day while he was out, we
pelted it with eggs.

When dad came home and saw what we did, he first made us wash the car
and then spanked us. Had we not been family, dad would've called the cops
and had us prosecuted for vandalism. But we weren't merely boys; we were
his boys.

John's first epistle wasn't written to the world at large, it was specifically
written to the Father's little children. His association with them is different
than His association with the world just as my dad's association with me and
my brother was different than it was with other boys. They would've been
criminals whereas my brother and I were only naughty.

I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God,
I've been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I'm part of the family,
The family of God.

PSALMS 86:5

"For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee."KJV.

REVELATION

3:19

"As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent."KJV

Godly sorrow brings godly repentance; do not think that whatever sins we MIGHT commit in the future are already forgiven and need NOT BE CONFESSED TO GOD & REPENTED OF @ the time of revelation & conviction!
