Ah.... except I don't think that scripture was describing prayer in the assembly. I think it was simply describing to us how the Spirit indwells and helps us individually.
If the Spirit is relating to God what we are incapable of uttering, how would that describe humans speaking in a tongue?

It was Jesus who said:
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son."
Translation: I don't agree with you and it bugs the heck out of you.
Wouldn't that be GREAT if we could just "bug the hell out of them".
What really happens in my heart is that it saddens me to see you missing out thru unbelief.
Not missing out on Salvation, but of what God ha sin Heaven waiting to bestow upon you when your faith reaches UP to HIM.

I don't think I'd ever thought of it that way, as pertaining to the end.
At Pentecost, tongues of fire settled on those gathered in the upper room, when the Holy Spirit of God came:
They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
Fire, too, is often used symbolically, in regards to separating the dross from gold.
Thinking about it now, that brings to mind our trials by fire, as it were, when/where we are:
placed under extreme pressure or stress as a means of testing one's ability and expected to learn or perform.
One of my conversion experiences was like that...

yes when I was reading your comment I was remembering the concluding chapters of the prophets regarding the New Testament
“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:”
Malachi 3:1-2
it happens often when I read your posts prophecy comes to Mind often is why I said that the idea or concept of “a refiners fire “ and a “ fullers soap “

lol - what about the 'opinion' of the Apostle Paul saying: (Direct Quote) = 1 Cor 14:2 v4 and versus 14-15
v2 - "For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him;
however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries."
v4 The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself,
v14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
v15 What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
Paul was very = as you would say = 'opinionated'
Which means that the Holy Spirit is very 'opinionated' = because HE is speaking thru all these men since Genesis.

I guess discernment isn't one of the gifts or humility a work of the Spirit either. Love is a far better exercise of the Spirit than any on display here.

yes brother you have opinions about scripture how your interpreting those scriptures and as I was saying your opinion and take is always appreciated and usually a good one to consider
Clearly, there is both consternation and love on here = i see both in action
Humility comes when we agree with what God has said and then we believe it as we bow our knees and hearts to His Word.

No it doesn't. It saddens you when you can't control or manipulate someone. I've had enough experience with cults to know a manipulator when I see one.

now what I was asking you is where do the scriptures explain the personal benefit of tongues

like when I said tongues isn’t a benefit unless there’s an interpretation I quoted that to you I didn’t have to explain it and convince you I just quoted the actual verse

I think you would find something to contend with no matter what.
Humility comes as God wills and does in us...Philippians 2:13. This is heightened as we spend time in the presence of God...2 Corinthians 3:18.
If people were truly spending time in the presence of God beholding His Son, the results here would be greatly in contrast to what actually transpires.
The source of ALL the gifts is the Holy Spirit, again, Jesus did not receive separate gifts, His anointing of Holy Spirit from John gave Him ALL the power and authority He needed.
He imparted to the 12, with the command to heal, raise, cast out, etc. from the same source, Holy Spirit infilling, NOT separate gifting, there are some who are stronger in areas according the the work He calls them to, but it is the same gifting.
NOBODY "possesses ANY "Gift". They're all possessed by the Holy SPirit, and HE distributes them when and where HE wills. (1 Cor 12:11)
And there NEVER WAS ONE. It was never ABOUT "man's ability", and always about God - who still Gifts individuals to manifest His wonders as HE sees fit.
