From my study, there is usually a physical problem that needs correction and there are also those that affect the soul and spirit of each individual. I'm not an expert on addictive personality disorders or chemical dependencies, but have seen success within my circle of influence. God Himself has all knowledge and power. Knowing Him provides a great benefit.
Yes but personal anecdotes are not data and I'm pretty sure secular treatment has helped a lot of people
That makes about as much sense as going to the doctor for a broken arm and then refusing treatment because the doctor isn't Christian

AA meetings are all about personal anecdotes and it is probably still working. I don't attend any longer. Have you an addiction? If so support groups can help.

A broken arm and an addiction are two totally different things.

BTW, have you dealt with the issue about heaven and hell you started on my thread?

I do not recall discussing anything about heaven or hell on this thread.
Also a broken arm and a chemical addiction are both medical issues.
One of course deals with the bones and the other deals with brain chemistry.
The more you go around trying to demonize anything that isn't christian, the more people are going to think Christians are tin foil hat cuckoos.
This is counterproductive for your cause

Yes, people are born that way: enemies of God and hostile toward Him.
Well, okay then, I guess it's time to go support all the LGBQRSTUVWXYZ people and let them know that it's okay to do that since they feel that they were just "born that way" :cautious:

Oh my.
I sure wouldn't want you thinking anything bad about Christians.
Thank you for your advice on how to improve the cause of Christianity.
Everyone is taking notes.

it's entirely plausible that some people are born with a genetic predisposition to addiction
it is called "generational curse"

Are you suggesting that AA members support and recommend drinking for unrecovered alcoholics???:oops::rolleyes:

What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not
to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. 1 Corinthians 5:12

Bondage is the issue in all? cases, whether it is bondage to natural forces or spiritual powers. It's what we're yoked with.

Yeah it's basics like ology. Go around telling people that you want them to accept idea X, and anyone who doesn't accept idea x X, is evil and satanic
People are going to tell you to go bleep yourself

My brother came out as gay in his 40s but he recently told me that he knew as early as 5 years old that he was gay
I don't see how we have any choice in to whom we are attractive just like you can't choose to like a food you don't like

Oh magenta! There you go AGAIN, twisting what was said, or even implying that something was said which wasn't.

Judge those inside the church :LOL::LOL:
foolish woman.
Judge NO ONE, lest you be judged.

I think that's the general sentiment these days anyway.

Everyone has developed such an extreme cynicism. I was thinking earlier, in terms of the service industry, that apparently, instead of the usual, "How may I help you," it'd be more fitting to ask, "How would you like to bleep me?" Grace in general of either party seems sparse nowadays. Even so, everyone scrambling to be the biggest bleeper just ends up bleeped. And that's why we eat and drink, for tomorrow we're bleeped...

We shouldn't give in to that kind of despair, if we truly believe we're given, and so have, a future and a hope. This is the idea we should want everyone to accept, or we, even the good ones:rolleyes:, will continue in despair.

I twisted nothing. The subject is AA, not LGBTQxyzetc. Learn to judge righteously. You obviously haven't learned that yet.

You implied something which was not said and now refuse to admit it.

And you reject Scripture.

If a person gets sober through a 12 step program then I'm happy for them. Being sober is usually better than using; however, not always. 12 step programs purport to promote reliance on a higher power but in reality they're works based. A person who gets sober by working the 12 steps may become more reliant on him or herself than on a higher power. If a drunk has a revelation of God's saving grace they may actually be better off than someone who works the 12 steps.

In any case, the 12 steps have no place in the church. Christ is our hope and Him alone. If you read the 12 steps, they're all about what we do; the good news is all about what God did for us.

The 12 steps are all about developing and maintaining a personal relationship with God.

Do you think a drunk can do that? They make straight their paths for the coming of the Lord.

Call it a work if you must.

For we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good
works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

ResidentAlien and Magenta you may both be right. I have really isolated myself for some time now and only stay in touch via phone and watching church on the internet. Seems that these organizations are all in recruit mode in the sense that possibly covid caused disruption has led to compromises across the board. Standards of all organizations may have been compromised.

I twisted NOTHING, I have nothing to admit, I have never rejected ANY scripture, and did not imply something from nothing (which, as someone who has watched you posting for a very, very long time I can certainly say that this is VERY common/typical of you to do).

What I did say was that what you posted from AA's book saying:
They are not at fault; they seem to have been born that way.
has been said by other "groups" (most currently the alphabet soup community- "Oh, I'm not choosing this ungodly sinful, behavior, I was born this way." )

Magenta, you are constantly on a witch hunt, when it is you who is operating in witchcraft.
You act as though you are being attacked, though several people have pointed this out to you several times before.
time is running short, STOP playing games!
REPENT!
Your health, your life, and most importantly your soul depends on it.
You will not be able to ever say that you didn't know/were never told.
