Why did JESUS say all manner of sin and >--blasphemy<-- will be forgiven but blasphemy of the HOLY SPIRIT will not be forgiven?

Here's my perspective on why Jesus said that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven:

I'm reminded of the second part of Romans 1, in which Paul wrote that mankind has no excuse for not believing (and even denying) that God exists (because the creation plainly bears that out). I believe that the Holy Spirit is the One who gives people the awareness of the existence of God. Therefore, to suppress and reject that awareness is to possibly place oneself outside of salvation, at least for a time.

That being said, it can't be denied that the scribes & Pharisees of Jesus' day believed that God exists. It's just that most of them couldn't fathom or entertain the idea of God taking the form of a Man; hence why they thought that Jesus performed His miracles by the power of Satan.

I think that their attribution of His miracles to Satan was a manifestation of their rejection of the Spirit. The Spirit also prompts people to accept & believe that Jesus is God and to receive Him as their Savior and Lord. And those who rebel against the Spirit's promptings, whether Jew or Gentile, will not be forgiven for their sins because they will have not received Christ as Savior.

So, it's kind of a three-step process:

1. The Spirit convinces people that God exists through evidence in the creation
2. The Spirit convinces people that Christ Jesus is part of the Godhead
3. Those who accept Christ as Savior and Lord are indwelt by the Spirit.

When you say that the SPIRIT convinces people that JESUS IS GOD would you be talking about the conscience of man?
Romans 2:13-15
King James Version

13 (For not the hearers of the law [are] just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was committed by the serpent in the Garden when he tore his Breath of Life into the Three Lies. It is also the Original Sin. This is where the demons come from. It is how the serpent got the name Devil. These verses Jesus speaks here because the jews said that he has an evil spirit and that he casts out demons by the power of demons.
I wish you had given some sort of scripture so that I could understand better what you are saying In context!:giggle:

Leviticus 24:11-16
The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) They put him in custody so that the command of the Lord might be made clear to them. Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, read more.
“Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then let all the congregation stone him. You shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If anyone curses his God, then he will bear his sin. Moreover, the one who blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him. The alien as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.

1 Timothy 1:12-16 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him
Are you saying that blasphemy before coming to CHRIST Is forgivable?

There are some on here that do this quite often, stating that all Pentecostals or charismatics are acting in themselves, or babbling, or are led by the Devil. It's the spiritual actions they target, not the attitudes. Therefore it's blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

True christians ought to walk humbly, carefully, like walking on broken glass so as to not say such things.

This also proves that there are different judgments for different sins. They are not all the same as some think.

What do you call what Pentecostals do when they babble and perform false signs and wonders in the name of the Holy Spirt. I wonder if this is blasphemy?

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit,
seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

Thanks for using a good reference but I disagree In part. IMO this type of blasphemy being described Is talking about blasphemy when a person might have gotten mad and used a bad word when addressing GOD but I wish the writer/Interpreter had of also given a description of what spiritual blasphemy Is!🤔

“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
‭‭James‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

One sin is the same as any a lie means we broke Gods whole law. Once we’ve broken Gods law that’s the very thing that makes a sinner. One who has broken the law.

For instance liar

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

sin itself is death salvstion comes through repentance whether lies or cheats or whatever else we’re guilty of we simply need to repent and move forward rather than trying to exist within the ongoing sin and bring it with us

Blasphemy against the Son, the man Christ Jesus, the flesh, can be forgiven.

When Peter denied Christ he did not deny God but denied the man Christ Jesus.

When Saul went against the Church he did hot go against God but he went against the man Christ Jesus not believing he was from God.

Many people do not believe in Jesus and some say bad things about Him but believe in God and do not go against God.

Mark 3:22,28-30 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.

28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

30Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is attributing evil to God when He is not evil which the Pharisees blasphemed against the Spirit by saying Jesus has an unclean spirit.

When the people crucified Christ He said Father forgive them for they not what they do for the people did not go against God but they went against the man Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 10
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

It is the Holy Spirit that gives knowledge of the truth.

I think one would have to be a believer. Christ even said if you were blind you would have no sin. Kinda hard to speak make fun of something you have no clue idea what it really is.

Just what is the unpardinable sin and when can it be commited?
Exactly what we have been talking about:

When a person who has full knowledge given by the Holy Spirit (ie. Christian) deliberately and willfully walks away from the faith...

Hebrews 10

26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

This not talking about an occasional mistake. This is talking about returning to a state of rebellion and disregard for what Jesus has done for us. That's what "willfuly" means.

28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

This seems to be just another way to say whoever believes in Jesus will be saved but whoever does not believe will not be saved.
Don't think so. I believe that this is a warning to Christians.

I used to think this might be talking about a single act somebody did that would doom them forever, but that doesn't seem to get at the problem being addressed.
I agree. (y)

22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.

24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

It depends. Are they just trying to fit in, or are they purposely doing it? Only God can judge the heart.
