"For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus."—1 Timothy 2:5
Nothing here about a pope.
Nothing here about a pope.
There are no schisms in the True Church. Woe to the robbers that think they will steal the vineyard!
How do you know you are part of the true church and everyone else isn't? And you totally didn't answer any of my points.
I don't really get why all the obsession with more, more, more! Why can't people just be content and at peace in the Lord. The obsession with more has brought things like the Totonto "blessing."
This thing is what many refer to as "revival." It lasted approximately two years and before it was barely over people were prophesying the next big wave, the next "revival." This is not of God, I can guarantee it.
They're never satisfied, they have to keep upping the ante to feel like God is moving. This is because it's all based in emotion and emotions never rest; they always demand more.
No one "changes things" within the Catholic church. That was already proved by John Wycliffe and the Reformers. So for a "born again" person to remain within Catholicism is to support False Christianity. Indulgences -- for example -- are still an integral part of the Catholic church. The question for them is, do they stay within and try to change things or leave.
Reguardless of your view about a true church....the church cant save you only christ can.
The bride of christ is found as a virgin, holy and righteous because she is in christ not in a church.
What is the true church?....those that hear beleive and do the will of the father.
We are not here to promote a church...or to judge others....but to do the work of the father.
The church is hidden in plain sight in the old testament. It becomes a light on a hill for all to see in the new.
Sounds kind of perverse to me."Separation of Church and State" is a lie invented by Communists, Freemasons and other enemies of Christendom. You have Abortion because of it. 2 Billion Innocent Children, including in Christian-Majority Countries, have been slaughtered in Abortion-Killing. This would never ever have happened if there had been no separation of Church and State as is God Almighty's Eternal Design.
Jesus Christ is King of kings. Here is what Catholic Poland, staunchly pro-life, declared recently: Jesus Christ as King of their country.
"In a ceremony at the Church of Divine Mercy in Krakow last week, Jesus was declared the king of Poland.
The ceremony, attended by Poland's President Andrzej Duda, marked the end of the Catholic Church's Year of Mercy.
People from around the country came together and declared Christ king over their country and their hearts.
"In our hearts, rule us, Christ! In our families, rule us, Christ! ... In our schools and universities, rule us, Christ! ... Through the Polish nation, rule us, Christ! ... We pledge to defend your holy worship and preach Thy royal glory, Christ our King, we promise!" they prayed.
Their bold statement was a reminder that God comes before everything.
"We entrust the Polish people and Polish leaders to you," the prayer continued. "Make them exercise their power fairly and in accordance with your laws. ... rule us, Christ! Reign in our homeland and reign in every nation – for the greater glory of the most Holy Trinity and the salvation of mankind." https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/cwn/2016/november/poland-declares-jesus-king-of-the-country
There should be Religious Freedom for all, but the Church should inform the State on questions of Faith and Morality impacting Public Life like Abortion.
I didn't say that I'm the only one. Though I notice you have this tendency to twist whatever I say and launch into personal attacks, though I have not launched into any personal attack against you or for that matter any of the others here that have launched into personal attacks on me.
Well what is not clear to you? They are all whores, adulterers, divorcees, feminists, and homosexuals. Quite literally, not metaphorically. It's not exactly a secret.
Hello XavierHi Magenta.
Our Salvation is certainly built on Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, alone. But that passage is not about Salvation. It is about Church Government. The metaphor of the keys makes it plain. St. Peter is to have the Keys from Christ to bind and loose on Earth. In this way, Christ will continue to exercise His Authority, in His Church, through St. Peter on Earth, after He goes to Heaven.
Regarding Petra and Petros, I have already cited some scholarly sources. Peter was a man, so translating Christ's Word as "You are Petra" would have been awkward, as it would imply he was feminine. In Aramaic, scholars know, it was "You are Kephas, and on this Kephas I will build My Church". Even in English translations, it is very clear: "You are Peter, and on this Rock (not on this Revelation, nor on something else), I will build My Church."
I'm a Catholic Christian. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and the Bible says, if you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Lord, and confess with your mouth that God raised Him from the dead, as I do, you will be saved. And so I certainly consider myself born again, though I know some anti-Catholics will disagree with me.
I'm not anti-Protestant. I have many Protestant friends, and sometimes worship along with them. Faith in Christ as True God and Only Savior unites us despite some differences that remain. In pro-life and charitable works, we can certainly co-operate. I respect especially the Conservative Evangelical Denominations, that are Anti-Abortion, and Pro-Matrimony.
Anyway, having read a lot in Church History, I can quite confidently say it is quite different from what most Protestants have been raised to believe. Take the Evangelism of Europe. For e.g. How did it happen? Through the Roman Catholic Church! That's a Historical fact.
For e.g. as everyone should know, Catholic Bishop Saint Patrick, in the 4th century, was sent by the Pope, to Ireland. When he arrived, almost the whole nation did not know Christ. After an Annointed Ministry of Miracles and Preaching, and Teaching the Holy Trinity that had just been defined in the Church Councils at his death, the whole nation was Christian!
Take England. The same story repeats. Pope Gregory the Great sent St. Augustine of Canterbury, a Bishop, along with about 40 monks, to England. They prayed and fasted, worked and labored in love for the Lord. Soon the whole nation was Christina in One Church. That I believe is how God Willed it.
I pray all Christians will be One some day again in the Future. That is the Lord's Will for us, as He prays in His High Priestly Prayer in John 17. He tells us the World will believe in Him when we are One in Him. His Prayer will one day be fulfilled, since the Word of God also says, He was heard in all things out of reverence for Him. I pray for the same also.
The key issue was Holy Communion. The Catholic Church maintained it was literally the Body and Blood of Christ, as I also believe, while most Protestants, like Calvin, taught that it was merely symbolic. Some Protestants still believe it is literal. Luther did also. But this core issue divided the Church.
Let's continue to pray, study Scripture, grow in Love for Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and one another, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us into All Truth. In Lord Jesus' Name. Amen.
Edit. P.S. The word "denominations" never occurs in the Holy Bible. When the Lord speaks of His Church, e.g Mat 16:18 and Mat 18:17, He always speaks of it as One Church.
God Bless.
Nah, if I were launching personal attacks you'd know it. I'm direct, always. Now to answer my question, how do you know you are a part of this group. And so far, yes you seem to think you're the only one, at least here. So share with the rest of us so we can be part of this group too.
What Jesus Christ said should be translated like this: "You are Rock, and on this Rock I will build My Church". Jesus Christ was giving Simon a new name to signify his new mission. Nobody else had been called "Peter" until that time. The Lord's meaning is plain.
"16:18, Peter as Rock. Peter is the foundation rock on which Jesus builds the new community. The name 'Peter' means 'stone' or 'rock' (Aramaic Kepha Cepha; Greek petros).... There are no documented instances of anyone's ever being named 'rock' in Aramaic or Greek prior to Simon. Thus English translations should render the word 'stone' or 'rock,' not 'Peter,' which gives the false impression that the word represented a common name and causes the contemporary reader to miss the word play of the passage: 'You are Rock, and on this rock I will build my church.' Peter is here pictured as the foundation of the church....On the basis of Isa 51:1-2 (cf. Matt 3:9), some scholars have seen Peter as here paralleled to Abraham; just as Abram stood at the beginning of the people of God, had his name changed, and was called a rock, so also Peter stands at the beginning of the new people of God and receives the Abrahamic name 'rock' to signify this." (The New Interpreter's Bible [Abingdon Press, 1995], volume 8, page 345)
In Aramaic, the language the Lord spoke, it would have been "You are Kephas, and on this Kephas I will build my Church". The Petra/Petros thing is only in Greek and is easily explained by the fact that Peter is masculine, not feminine. See the link for more.
And please refer to Isa 22:22 for context. The royal steward held the key of David to signify he had authority over the members of the royal household. Jesus Christ is giving this authority to St. Peter. That means he is making St. Peter the Chief Pastor of His Church.
"Jesus is intentionally drawing attention to the context of Isaiah's prophecy -- a new steward is being placed over the kingdom of Judah -- as the backdrop for his current appointment of Peter as steward over his kingdom. Jesus ascends the throne of David as the heir and successor of the kings of Israel and Judah, and he too, according to custom and legal precedent, appoints a royal steward over his kingdom. Notice the words used to describe the steward: he has an 'office'; he is 'over the household [vizier]'; 'authority' is committed into his hand; he shall be a 'father' [root word of pope or papa means father, btw] to the people of God; he is given the 'keys' of authority; he has the unquestioned supremacy to open and shut so that no one can oppose him; he is fastened firmly as a peg; he will 'become a throne of honor to his father's house'; and on him will hang the weight of everything in the king's house....The parallels between Peter and Eliakim are striking. The physical kingdom of Israel has been superseded by the spiritual kingdom of God. The office of steward in the old economy is now superseded by the Petrine office with the delegation and handing on of the keys. The office of steward was successive, and so is the Petrine office in the new kingdom." (Stephen K. Ray, Upon This Rock [Ignatius Press, 1999] from "Appendix B: An Old Testament Basis for the Primacy and Succession of St. Peter," page 273-4)
God Bless.
Where did you get your credentials in biblical Greek? What Jesus Christ said should be translated like this: "You are Rock, and on this Rock I will build My Church".
That nobody else had been called "Peter" is utterly irrelevant. You completely overlook the fact that Jesus also called him Satan. There too, the Lord's meaning is plain... and your interpretation is plainly wrong.Jesus Christ was giving Simon a new name to signify his new mission. Nobody else had been called "Peter" until that time. The Lord's meaning is plain.
If Christ had meant to say: "The Rock is the Revelation, and on that Revelation, I will build My Church", He would have done so. But He didn't.
