What do we do with postbiblical revelation? If someone believes they have received a revelation from Jesus or His Father how
do you respond to the one sharing it and the revelation itself?
revelation is an uncovering of what’s already there forminstance pauls revelation was written in the ot beforehand just wasn’t understood
All Paul taught came from here
“Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day,
witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: that Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.”
Acts 26:22-23
it was revelation of what the law and prophets had already written. The ot is set behind a veil it keeps a person from seeing God in truth
“and not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
but their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.”
2 Corinthians 3:13-15 KJV
the revelation in the new testament is having that veil raised up so we can see clearly.the New Testament is a revelation of what the Old Testament had left hidden
infact the gospel itself is revelation of what the ot said would come
“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you,
that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
Luke 24:44-47 KJV
sort of Thais is a mystery written in the ot
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:4-6 KJV
that needs revelation to be understood and it’s found in the New Testament
“who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”
1 Peter 2:22-
the New Testament is revealing Jesus Christ as the one the ot was foretelling would come and save
my point is revelation is going to always be rooted in scrioture it’s never going to operate independent from scripture Gods word presents a prophecy and then Later gives revelation to understand it
if someone’s claiming revelation that is opposed to what’s written it’s false if someone is receiving revelation of scripture understanding of scripture priorly hidden it may be biblical revelation
the Bible is designed sin to at what’s in the Old Testament is revealed clearer in the new , what was foretold is then fulfilled on the New Testament. “Or revealed in due time “
revelation is always going to make sense when your reading scripture it’s going to help understand scripture from the old make sense in the new
“For dogs have compassed me: The assembly of the wicked have inclosed me:
They pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: They look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, And cast lots upon my vesture.”
Psalm 22:16-18 KJV
doesn’t make any sense until one reads the New Testament revelation of Christ on the cross and the events that took place as he was fulfilling the ot scriptures they were receiving revelation that it is him
revelation is to have something already there “ be uncovered or seen “ in the Bible it is to have understanding of what is there that was not understood beforehand it’s never just coming out of thin air or remaking a foundational truth it’s to have help understanding scripture
this is revelation
“Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,”
this is why Paul says “ I’ve said nothing but what Moses and the prophets said would come “ why Jesus explained the law and prophets needed fulfillment why Peter says ll the prophets who ever have spoken foretold of the day of Christ
the old is hidden behind a veil the new the vail is taken away so clarity comes
