Christ's Purpose in dying for the Church !
Yes, Christ did die for the church. However, He died for everyone, as Scripture very plainly says.
John 3-
15 that
everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
So, salvation is not limited to any kind of certain select group, as calvinism believes.
2 Cor 5-
14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that
one died for all, and therefore all died.
15 And
he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
Here, we see that Christ "died for all". So here, "all" really does mean everyone.
And Paul even clarified further:
5:19 - that
God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ,
not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
Red words are the "everyone" in the world. Blue words show that people won't go to hell for their sins.
That's not to say that everyone will go to heaven, even though Christ did die for everyone and therefore paid the sin debt for everyone.
So, why will people go to the lake of fire, if their sins were paid for?
John 3:18 - Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they
have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
2 Thess 2:12 - and so that all will be condemned who
have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
These 2 verses tell us very clearly WHY people will end up in the lake of fire.
They "have not believed". This means they NEVER believed.
Conclusion, once a person HAS believed, they will NOT be condemned.
