Luke 15

Tax collectors and sinners listen to Jesus and the Pharisees and the scribes speak against him. So Jesus tells a parable of a man who has 100 sheep, on losing one of them will leave the others and looks for the one missing. When he founds it he rejoices and he tells everybody. Same for a woman who has ten drachmas and losing one searches carefully till she finds it and then she tells everybody. Same for a man with two sons and the younger asks his father for the share of the property and goes away and wastes the money. When he has lost everything and he doesn’t know what to do, he decides to go back to his father. When he sees his son, he rejoices and makes a feast in his honor. When his older son comes back from work he becomes angry because he has always worked for his father who has never organized a feast in his honor. But his father explains to him that his younger brother was dead but has come to life.

Luke 16

Jesus tells his disciples about a rich man and his steward who does a bad job. So the rich man wants to take away the stewardship from him. So the steward decides to trick his master. He goes to the houses of his master’s debtors and he reduces their debts. And his master commend him because of his practical wisdom though he is unrighteous. Jesus’ conclusion is that the sons of this system of things are wiser in a practical way toward their generation than the sons of light are. But the steward acted badly because he acted according to his way as human beings usually and they think that they act properly. It is a never-ending story. Will they understand before it is too late?

Luke 17

Jesus tells his disciples never to be satisfied. Going to Jerusalem he meets 10 lepers and he cures them. One of them, who is a Samaritan, comes back to Jesus and thanks him. Then he tells some Pharisees that the Kingdom of God is among them. And he tells his disciples that one day he won’t be with them anymore. And he tells them that he must suffer and be rejected. Then he tells them about the days of the Son of man will be like the days of Noah as people enjoy themselves and the flood came and destroyed them and like the days of Lot as people enjoy themselves and they were all destroyed.

Luke 18

Jesus tells an illustration the need to keep praying and not giving up. It deals with a widow who goes incessantly to a judge and finally gets justice to get rid of her. Then he tells about a Pharisee who is self-righteous and a tax collector who shows himself more righteous than the Pharisee. Jesus let the children come to him saying that those who want to enter into God’s kingdom must be like them. A man asks Jesus what he must do to inherit everlasting life as he follows all God’s commandments. As he is rich, Jesus tells him to sell everything he has. Then he says that he will be difficult for rich people to enter into God’s kingdom. Then he tells his disciples that the time has come for them to go to Jerusalem and for Jesus to be arrested and treated badly and killed and be risen. But they don’t understand because it was hidden from them. Then Jesus cures a blind man.

Luke 19

In Jericho Zacchaeus a rich chief tax collector wants to see who Jesus is so he climbs a tree and Jesus tells him to go down because he wants to go to his house. And the man says that he gives half of his belongings to the poor and when he extort someone he gives him back four times. And Jesus says he has come for sinners. Some people expect God’s kingdom to appear instantly. So Jesus gives a parable speaking of a man who must secure his kingship and return and his slaves must look after his belongings. When he comes back he put his slaves on charge over cities according to their results. And one slave has no result, as a consequence, he takes what he gave him and he gives it to another slave. Then he has all his enemies executed in front of him. Then he asks two disciples to look for a colt and Jesus sits on it. Then Jesus speaks about the total destruction of Jerusalem. Then he enters the temple and throws out those who are selling. And the chief priests and the scribes and the principal ones of the people try to kill Jesus but they don’t succeed.

Luke 20

When Jesus is in the temple teaching people the chief priests and the scribes with the elders ask him according to what authority he does everything he does. So he answers them by asking them according to what authority John baptizes. As they don’t answer from heaven so they say they don’t know so Jesus doesn’t answer them. Jesus tells people about a man who leases a vineyard to cultivators for a long time. When the time has come he asks them for some fruit of his vineyard but they give nothing. Each time he sends a slave and each time they don’t give anything and they abuse the different slaves. Finally he sends his son the beloved but they kill him thinking they will get the vineyard for themselves. So the owner will kill the cultivators and give the vineyard to others. Knowing he was speaking about them, the scribes and the chief priests send people to catch him in his speech so to be able to arrest him. And they ask him if it is lawful to pay taxes to Caesar. Jesus ask them for a coin and about the image on it. They say it is Caesar’s image so he tells them to pay back Caesar’s things to Caesar but God’s things to God. Then the Sadducees ask him about a man who has a wife and he dies. He has seven brothers and in turn they take the woman as wife but they die childless so in the resurrection who is she going to be the wife? In the resurrection no one marry or is given in marriage. Then he asks them why the Christ is David’s son. And then he tells his disciples to be careful of the scribes who want to be first and they will receive a MORE SEVERE JUDGMENT!

Luke 21

Jesus sees people giving money for the temple: rich men give gifts out of their surplus whereas a poor widow gives a little money out of her want so he says that she gives more than all the others. Later he says that the temple is going to be destroyed. Then he is asked about the time of such an event. He speaks about people coming on the basis of his name will mislead many and about wars and earthquakes and food shortages and pestilences and they will be persecuted. And Jerusalem will be surrounded by a foreign army. It will be the sigh to flee in the mountains because after that Jerusalem will be destroyed and its inhabitants will suffer a lot. And Jesus warns them to stay awake so they can escape.

And he is brought to the house of the high priest. And peter follows them and he disowns Jesus three times. And Jesus is mocked and they speak badly about him. And he is brought in front of the Sanhedrin.

Luke 24

The women go to the tomb but it is opened and Jesus’ body is missing. Then two angels appear and tell them that Jesus has been raised up. And they remind them about what Jesus told him before his death. So Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and other women went to the Apostles to tell them. But they wouldn’t believe the women and it seems nonsense to them. S op eter went to the tomb and saw it opened with no body inside. Then the same day two disciples are speaking about the events in their way and Jesus comes to them and asks them what they are talking about but they don’t recognize him. So they tell him everything. Then he explains to them again. Then he spends the dinner with them. And then they recognize him but he disappears. So they come back to jerusalem and meet the 11 and the others and tell them everything. And Jesus appears among them and tells them to check his wounds in his hands.

Luke is the only one who speaks about the priest Zechariah and his wife Elisabeth. She is barren and they are old. Zechariah works at God’s temple. Gabriel, God’s angel, appears to him while he is working at the temple and he tells him that they are going to have a child because their supplication has been heard and they have to call him John. But he mustn’t drink alcohol and he will receive holy spirit before birth. And he will bring many Israelites back to God. Zechariah can’t believe it because he thinks they are too old. Because of his attitude he won’t be able to speak till the birth of the child. When he goes out, people understand he has had a vision.
